I'm enjoying this series immensely! I had to take breaks while reading this though...chills up the spine, and take a break from the tension! LOL! Weeble-wobbled on 4 or 5...a little too much repetition and annoyance with Ben kept it from a perfect 5. BUT...can't wait to read the next...and Cormac...don't want to spoil it, but...woe is me!
So, Kitty's Walden-Pond sojurn didn't turn out as planned and we got to encounter some "charming" skinwalkers. Wonder if Granpa will be back!
If you haven't started this series, DO!

Darklight by Lesley Livingston ***/5 12.25.10
I've enjoyed both the books in this series so far, but for some reason, neither really "grabbed" me. I'll be sticking with the series, though, as I'm curious what happens next. I'm almost thinking part of why it hasn't grabbed me is I'm just not a huge fan of the male romantic interest. I do love the "Bob" character, though :)

Good review too. I've never been into the fae stories so 3/5 sounds right to me. LOL.

ETA: Good review, Jen. :)

I enjoyed returning to the Cat and Bones universe. I kept putting it off because i feared it would not live up to the high standard of the Night Huntress series.
Needless to say that it was almost as good as that, even though i did not like Denise as much as i liked Cat. Spade was still yummy though. :)

Miss, I'm glad you like it! and have to agree on Spade...
Hope you're enjoying your holidays!

Kiss Of Death by Rachel Caine ****/5 12.31.10
Yet another winner in the Morganville universe... As much as I liked the arc from the initial books, I'm really enjoying the stand-alone feel of the more recent books, with just a hint of an arc tying them together. I can't wait to get my hands on Ghost Town and Bite Club :)

I read On the Edge instead, finished it on 01/02 and gave it 5 stars, here is my review:
I really liked this book, it had a unique world and interesting characters. The plot was well thought-out and fast-paced, and at the end i actually wished i could keep on reading.
Happy New Year everyone!

Let us know about The Child Thief when you get back to it, too. I'm a bit curious about it and would love to hear what you think!

Four books read and reviewed, which means it's STAMP time! Yeah!!

Yeah, I really liked On the Edge as well. The cover was kind of cheesy which put me off it for a bit.

Good Job!! :D

I put it off for a long time too, don't know why because i loved Ilona Andrews' Kate series, but it was so great, and i've just finished Bayou Moon, which was twice as interesting, it seemed that so much happened in that book, and the plot was really well thought of and executed, plus there were some really interesting characters in the Mar family... I really wonder where the authors are going with the plot, it seems really complex at this point. :) Also, there was an excerpt from Magic Slays at the end of it, and i just can't wait for june 2011!!!
I've made up my mind... there are definitely two authors whose books are great no matter what they write: one Ilona Andrews and two Richelle Mead. Everyone else has had some flops in their writing.

My review:
Start of a new UF series. It took a bit to get going (first book syndrome). Shia is a human PI hired by the mages to find something a powerful vampire has. Shia takes the case even though she doesn't have anything to do with the Others because she is broke.
What I liked:
* Others (paranormals) are outcasts in society even though they have rights.
* The idea of contracts was interesting, but very pro others. I liked Shia's solution to her contract problem.
* Chaz, Arnold and Shia.
* the hunter's belt.
What I didn't like:
* Needed a little more explanation of the bad guy and how they got their powers.
* Janine needed more of an explanation.
* Shia keeping her family out of the loop.

I put it off for a long time too, don't know why because i l..."
Good to know Bayou Moon is just as good. I picked it up recently, but haven't got to it yet.

The Edge - absolutely.
H&W Investigations - probably, but I'm not in any big rush.

Thanks for the laugh...

Hope you all had a great Xmas and New Year. I had a fabulous time in the US. Unfortunately I've returned home to a flooded Qld. We're not threatened - but I have family that is so I will be hit and miss here.
I did get two books finished while away, so I'll post the reviews in a sec.
Hope everyone is well.
:)

Finished approx 29 Dec 2010 – 3 stars
‘The Laughing Corpse’ is the second book in the Anita Blake series.
This book see’s Anita working on a case of a killer zombie, while also dealing with the voodoo Queen – Dominga, and holding off Head Vampire Jean-Claude.
I read this book intermittently, and it was still easy to fall into the plot and action.
This book is a lot more graphic (and quite gory in places) than the first, but I do like that Anita is quick witted, sassy and not perfect.
Not a bad follow-on from the first book – but hoping for more in the next one.

Finished 5 Jan 2011 – 4 stars
‘Pleasure Unbound’ is the first in the Demonica Series by Larissa Ione.
Ediolon is a Demon doctor who is running Underworld General (a hospital specifically for Demons) who is regularly dealing with Demons injured by the Aegis (a Group of renegades killing demons to rid them off the Earth)
Tayla works with the Aegis and finds herself injured in the Underworld General.
This book see’s Tayla and Ediolon battle the good vs evil that each believe the other to be.
It’s an easy book to read. Plenty of steamy steamy sex, and a really interesting world that Ione has painted.

Its all terrible! I hope it's over soon also, but Brisbane won't see the worst of it until Thursday. To go with all the rain - it's king tides too - so I hope that everyone stays safe.
We're just outside Rockhampton - so were watching it unfold while we were away - but what we saw up here is nothing compared to the Lockyer Valley and Brisbane areas.
