O4 Books Read
Hey Diane, I'm really interested in your review because I stopped reading this series at this book, about 50 pages into it. Don't know exactly why except it was full of angst. I still plan to continue with this series, especially as book 9 will be coming out soon and I hear Trent is a big part of it, yay! Also, finished my read today and I will post my review soon.
- read 12/08 - 4*"This book should get top marks, it is that well written, with interesting dialogue and fast-paced action. It is gritty but in a good way and has a complicated mystery that gets solved. I took off one star because the hero falls so many times at the mercy of this clan or that, even the bad guys, that it was pretty hard to buy his tough detective image. He gets points for sensitivity though, he has a soft-spot for abused kids and teens in trouble a and he really cares for his HIV infected girlfriend. I'm looking forward to continuing with this series."
12/8/10 4.5*Like most first novels, there is a lot of world building, character creating at the start of this. It took me awhile to get everything "straight" but once I did, it was a fast, exciting read. The characters are strong, gritty and fascinating. Their relationships and interactions have layers and difficulties that intrigue the reader and keep you wanting to know more. I'll definitely be reading more, in fact, based on the positive reviews I'd already read, made sure I had #2 at hand. But, it's in Reading Resolutions, so I'll enjoy other treats in December.
Great reviews, ladies! Miss, I am sure I've seen that book around here somewhere. I think I might've gotten in as a Kindle freebie once upon a time or something. I've made a note to try to read it in 2011. Judithe, I'm so happy you enjoyed that one. I love that series. It is hard, at times, to keep all the names/jobs straight through the series. At least for me it was, but I do love the story between Heather and Dante. And, Dante ... yum! ;)
For the URBAN-DARK-FANTASY slot:Web of Lies by Jennifer Estep ****/5 12.10.10
I've been a fan of Jennifer Estep since her Bigtime series, and this book is another outstanding book from her. I liked this better than the first in the Elemental Assassin series, and I definitely like the addition of the Owen character. I can't wait for the next book since it seems like it will start focusing on the main character's backstory mystery that has only been hinted at so far.
Finished today (12/11/10) and give it 3 stars. My review is below. There is a spoiler if you haven't read the previous books - you've been warned...
Review:
I really like this series, but I always dread starting a new book because they are very long and very involved and I know it will take me a lot longer to read than most books. But once I start, I'm always sucked into the story, and this one is no different.
Most of this is centered on the hunt for Kisten's killer (and Rachel's memories) and an issue with a banshee. Lots of Rachel and Jenks interaction, a decent amount of Ivy and Al and practically none with Trent and Ceri. Rachel does get to spend some time with her mother and brother this book and it is interesting to see the sibling rivalry. The story is good, although I thought the killer resolution was a bit of a let down

Diane, I'm exactly the same with this one. I listened to the last one and I think I enjoyed it a bit more. I was able to get lost in Rachel's world while cleaning house, doing laundry, etc.
CONGRATULATIONS, Just One More! You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'urban-dark-fantasy'.

Wow! We are all getting very close to B-I-N-G-O! So exciting! I can't wait to see what the randomizer spits out next. :D
Sorry Girls - super slow on this one. I'm hoping I can have it finished on the plane on Weds. I hate being late with things :(Buying a nookcolour in New York - so I should be able to do the next shelf :)
Will check in with my review as soon as possible.
Steph wrote: "Wow! We are all getting very close to B-I-N-G-O! So exciting! I can't wait to see what the randomizer spits out next. :D"I really DON'T want to wait a week...lol! I want BINGO shelf faster, and Christmas later!
LOL!! I want bingo shelves faster too! Maybe I could announce it even earlier this time since it'll run over the Christmas holiday week. Hmmm, I'll have to check out where each group stands and see.I just boxed up all our gifts headed to the US and mailed off Christmas cards today. That's a HUGE weight lifted. Now, the rest of the shoppin' is easy ... online all the way! :)
I want an early shelf too but maybe some of the other groups would like to catch up on their reading. Fair chance to everyone I say, but if they have no objections I'm all for it!
:) I'm still thinkin' on it. But, with the holidays upon us it's lookin' more and more like a good idea to me.
A Double Dose! Our next to shelf announcement dates: 12/20 and 1/3/11 are so close to the holidays I decided to post them now to give people a chance to read, relax and enjoy the season!
** NOTE: These are the last shelf announcements until next year. We will be posting SHELF #8 on Monday, 17 Jan. All members are encouraged to post updates as they read, as teams are getting very close to BINGO. You are welcome to read the following two shelves in order or visa versa, whichever works for you and your team. **

According to Steph on one of the other group's post, you can start reading both of these shelves now.
Yeah, I saw that and had to ask again to make sure it was true! Now only have to wait until I finish my current read! Yeah!
Sorry, guys, I really thought ya'll knew you could read them as soon as they were announced. :( I should've clarified.
I'll probably start Deadtown for urbanfantasy-paranormal shelf, tomorrow. I'm not sure yet what I'll be reading for pnr-angledemon-fae-wings-witch-misc yet. The short list is below:
My vote is for Magic Strikes. :) But, if you read Glimmerglass or Hunted By The Others, I'd love to hear what you think of them.
finished for G3 on 12/19/10 and I give it 3 stars.What I liked:
* The world. Paranormals have few rights if any.
* How the zombies came about. That was well-written and had me squirming a bit in discomfort.
* The humorous by-play between Vicky and her sort-of boss, Lucado.
* The interesting world of demons created.
* Vicky's shapeshifter powers.
What I didn't like:
* Vicky was really slow figuring things out. Seriously, I don't know how some of the things could have been more obvious.
* Vicky's boyfriend, Kane, the werewolf lawyer. He was too self-involved.
* That Vicky kept letting Tina get away with the things she was doing.
G5
12/19/10 4.5*This was hard for me to get into, but once I was, it was a fantastic, fun read. It's interesting to get to know more about the characters, but the wait was long for this, and I'd forgotten too much from book 1! That was frustrating, especially as I didn't feel like rereading that one! The couple had to work hard for their HEA, and it seemed possible. I wish the fallen angels themselves had some more air time, but that wasn't a distraction, just interest in them. I'm now really looking forward to the next one...but another long wait!
Updated stuff...didn't add multiple lists, though. Please check and let me know if there are errors/missed stuff!Have fun reading!
Steph wrote: "I need to read that one, Diane. I've had it for a while sitting on my shelf. Like your review. :)"Thanks. I was a bit leery about starting it after reading some of the reviews, but I enjoyed it, so I'm glad I did.
