UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I agree with you, Cheryl and Mollie, it's very helpful when people include the star rating. Thank you for doing that!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Ladies, from time to time I stop getting updates for some of the threads. If you don't see your stats being updated, please let me know so I can do that.

Thanks!

Catherine | 182 comments Should we be including star ratings? I didn't think anyone would care, so I didn't.

message 257: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments It's up to you, Catherine. For me, I don't always know what star rating a book is going to get until I've written the review and really reflected on how the book affected me, know what I mean?

message 258: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 182 comments Yeah, I know what you mean. I'll include the ratings after I've written reviews for them. :)

message 259: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments I find it helpful seeing what someone rated a book in these challenges just for a quick reference of what that person thought of the book. If I see that they gave 5 stars to a book I'm likely going to look into that book, if they gave it 3 stars I may ignore it for the time being.. just a thought! :)

Katherine | 828 comments What other Oscar Wilde book would you suggest? I really want to read another.

message 271: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I thought it was very good. It's not a feel-good book, but the writing was entrancing. An interesting story that gets you thinking.

Katherine, it's my first OW book. I'm eager to read The Complete Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde. I'm not fond of reading plays, but I heard his plays are good:

The Importance of Being Earnest and Other Plays.

Cheryl, I'm almost afraid to watch a modern version of this novel. I think they will show too many of Dorian Gray's sins. I'd rather that be left to my imagination. :)

message 272: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 828 comments The importance of Being Earnest is good too. It's a comedy of sorts. I saw the movie with Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon.

The Importance of Being Earnest is hilarious! I own a copy and have read it many times but it's in Spanish...maybe I should get myself on in English!

Well, after seeing the movie and knowing what his many sins are, it was done more tastefully than it could have been done. It was rated R but it wasn't as graphic as it could have been. I can't imagine reading the book, the movie left me feeling a little sad so I know the book would leave me feeling even more so.

message 288: by Laura (new)

Laura (filoviridae) | 783 comments I took The Picture of Dorian Gray with me when I went to Ireland in May partly because I had always wanted to read it and partly because it was the book for the Dublin read program. I haven't been able to get into it, but I'm not completely giving up on it either.

I also recently watched the movie with Colin Firth and wasn't impressed...they seemed a little too intent on showing all of the sins and vices instead of concentrating on the story itself.

I thought it was interesting to see Colin Firth playing that role... he usually plays such a good guy!

message 290: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments That is what I'm concerned about, Laura. I like the idea of not seeing what he did, and having unspeakable things in your imagination to guess about.

Don't give up, Laura. It's worth reading!

message 291: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Cheryl, I assume Firth is playing Lord Henry?

message 292: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 828 comments I was wondering that also, since he is much to old to play Dorian.
