Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments I have to rant about this for a moment. "Popular tween book series"? Um, no.

"I think it's really cool because it's a really big movie," Rachel said. "We'd just like to be extras. People say it's going to be bigger than 'Twilight' and 'Twilight' is a really big movie."

AGH. AGH. AGH. They're extras, so we won't see them a lot (probably) but this is exactly the attitude I hate seeing. *sigh*

message 653: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I know right! I saw that as well. I don't like the direction people are shoving the Hunger Games in.

Jia | 170 comments Yeah, that's just saying "This is going to be a big franchise. We can make dolls, video games, just but the name on a lunchbox and we'll be rich."

And who lets a seven-year-old read this book? If I were a parent I would have my child wait until at least junior high.

message 658: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Yeah me too. That's ridiculous, both statements.

message 659: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments *shivers* Seriously? They're obviously only going to try and be extras because it's supposed to be "big". This gets on my nerves. I mean, what about dedicated fans need these spots!

And definitely not a TWEEN book series. It's called YOUNG ADULT or TEEN......

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments They just cast Thresh and Rue...

message 661: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments Yep, I like them. Amandla is the right age and look and she isn't Willow Smith. ;) Bonus. Dayo looks seems he can play tough and sympathetic, but I'm just happy they casted unknowns because I wasn't sure who could play Thresh or Rue out of the Hollywood Pool.

message 662: by Z. (new)

Z. (mizzfictionista) I am SO happy about the unknowns casted for Rue and Thresh!

Yes yes yes!!!!
Thanks for sharing Jordan, I am so glad to see 2 unknowns cast in two important roles.
The girl who plays Rue is beyond words PERFECT. Plus, I agree with Jia, it's not Willow Smith, so that's a bonus.
Seriously youth, that is awesome casting! Well done Garry Ross & casting crew.

Also, there is news going around that Elizabeth Banks will be playing Effie-or at least, is in talks for the role.

http://collider.com/elizabeth-banks-t...

http://upandcomers.net/2011/04/18/eli...

What does everyone think?
Personally, I think she will be alright. Could be worse, and I wont make a fuss if she is cast. Personally, I would have loved to see Amy Poehler in talks.

Anyway, this is Elizabeth banks:

Actually, its now official. She took the role. http://www.shockya.com/news/2011/04/1...

message 666: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments I can't say I'm too happy about this casting. I'm kinda lukewarm. :/ She wasn't what I was expecting, but hopefully she can act Effie-esque. I was expecting more Poehler or Cheno. But... yeah.

message 667: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I'm happy about the unknowns for Rue and Thresh. It really makes me happy to see that they did this. Obviously I was hoping for Amy Poehler, but I'm happy enough with Banks.

message 668: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Rue and Thresh are perfect!
Elizabeth is fine with me. I've never seen her in anything, but I want them to hurry up and get a Haymitch!

message 669: by Jordan (last edited Apr 29, 2011 11:43AM) (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Marvel and Glimmer have been cast.
The Facebook page for The Hunger Games has a nifty little page for all the tributes. I've taken a screenshot for anyone who doesn't have a Facebook account.

I've never heard of these people (are they unknowns? Off to IMDb), but I'm mostly happy. Effie, on the other hand, is a meh. I've never seen her act, but I'm still disappointed it wasn't Kristen or Amy.

EDIT: Looks like Leven has been in various TV shows, and Jack is an unknown. I'm pretty happy. And my mom says Elizabeth Banks is an amazing actress. I'm being optimistic.

message 670: by Z. (new)

Z. (mizzfictionista) Loving the District 1 tributes as well! Jack hasn't done much acting, but his parents are Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan so I'm sure he'll be fine. Leven is great, too.

Elizabeth Banks for Effie is an okay choice, not the best but not the worst.

So far so good with the district tributes besides Katniss/Peeta.

Besides Josh Hutcherson, I am loving all these tributes :)
Good to see that the casting is starting to move fast...can't wait for Cato and Foxface

message 672: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments I actually am really happy!

message 673: by Jia (new)

*Prim

Amandla Stenberg is Rue, Willow Shields is Prim

message 675: by Jia (new)

message 676: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I'm liking the casting so far. :)

message 677: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments Not complaining for the most part.

message 678: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments I mean, we all agree that Gale, Peeta and Katniss could've been cast WAY better, but everyone else is fine.

message 679: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments That's why it's for the most part. They screwed up some, but even the screwups could have been way worse, and they did a lot of them either okay or better.

message 680: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Yeah, I mean, all the tributes besides Katniss and Peeta are pretty much unknowns.

message 681: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 116 comments The casting seems to be turning out cooly. I would liked Kaya Scodelario because she's such a boss actress and Skins.

But whateves.

I actually quite like the idea of Josh Hutcherson as Peeta. Sounds sweet to me.

message 682: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Everyone but the District 12 tributes. :)

message 683: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments I like Jen better than Kaya because I have a deep hatred for Skkins. :P But still I don't think that the first 3 casted were the best for their role. :/ But I don't like Marvel.

message 684: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 116 comments Hate Skins? Does not compute.

message 685: by kathrine (new)

kathrine (scarlettshea) | 391 comments I think Russel Brand, AKA Katy Perry's husband would be the BEST Haymitch!

message 686: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 116 comments He seems too ugly.

message 687: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I don't know, Russel is too funny to play the part.
You know what I mean? Haymitch is alternatly funny and serious. Brand is just funny. Not a bad thing. Not right for Haymitch.

message 688: by kathrine (new)

kathrine (scarlettshea) | 391 comments I think Fox Face should be someone with bright red hair. For some reason I think red hair is sneaky! I have NO idea why!

message 689: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments Well, in the book don't they say she has red hair and amber eyes?

message 690: by Rebekah Faith (new)

Rebekah Faith (musicalradiance) | 6788 comments Jia wrote: "Well, in the book don't they say she has red hair and amber eyes?"

I think it does. *looks up* "She has fire-red hair, amber eyes and sharp, fox-like features. Foxface also is smaller than most of the tributes."

message 691: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) | 4557 comments Even though I haven't pitched in much since the casting started, I will say ABSOLUTELY NO to Russell Brand as Haymitch. Russell Brand annoys the crap out of me. I will not watch the movie if he's in it, he gets on my nerves that much.

Liam is my least favorite casting so far.
Im on the fence with Josh, and I REALLY like Jennifer. Trust me, she WILL look the part. They will make her a slightly un-glamorous brunette from District 12. Plus, she can obviously do a terrific job at acting.
I think shes got the role covered.

I like Russel Brand, but that would be the absolute worst casting movie, if hes Haymitch. I hope they dont ask him to be in it.

Annnnnnd Fox Face is supposed to have red hair.

message 693: by natalie (new)

natalie | 5047 comments My favorite casting is Katniss and Effie so far.

I ADORE Russel Brand, but Haymitch? Bleck, no. I want to see Arthur. For two reasons: Russel Brand's in it, and they say Harry Potter >.<

Yeah, Fox Face's a red head. ( I wish I was...) Okay, random... but, I totally hate when natural red-heads dye their hair. Jus' saying. It's so pretty and so many people which they had it and you can never get the exact color!

message 694: by Z. (last edited Apr 21, 2011 07:43PM) (new)

Z. (mizzfictionista) My favorites right now are Rue and Prim.

Seriously can't stand Liam though, so that will just increase my dislike for Gale.

message 695: by Jia (new)

Jia | 170 comments Yeah, MTV had some art done with Josh and Liam in their respective roles with hair and makeup and I am not happy. It looks worse. To MTV: Blonde is not yellow. Liam looks so squinty-eyed, like he has to be staring at the sun to get a tan all the time. He cannot act for one and now he is making Gale look bad. Josh as Peeta looks okay, but blonde is not yellow. And he doesn't look right blonde either. Perhaps a dirty blonde, but nothing like platinum or golden. If only Jen was shorter. That would help this a bit more. :/

Yeah..."

Have you seen the original Arthur? It's kind of a dumb movie, but the one with Russell Brand looks even dumber...

message 697: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments Yes, but is it worse than Hop? I say no to Russell Brand as Haymitch too. Don't ask why. I can't explain it. He just...ehhh.

message 698: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Is it bad I'm still hanging on to Hugh Larurie even though his publicist said he can't?

message 699: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Guys, the remake of Arthur looks absolutely awful. Granted, I LOVED the original.
Brand may be hilarious, but hes got massive boots to fill, living up to Dudley Moore, who was sensational in the original.

message 700: by Kate (new)

Kate | 8205 comments No Guitar Chick, it's not bad. You can always hope.

My parents love the original Arthur, but they say this one looks awful too. I don't have high hopes.
