Jan (auntyjan) Tracey....late night television is very educational. It teaches you that you should have gone to bed earlier.

LOL. Maybe Tracey suffers from insomnia and late night cheesy TV is the only thing to distract her from it.

Ha, I should leave Mandy to welcome you, one day I'm going to find a sports fan here if I have to wait until I reach a hundred. >:( ::grumble grumble grumble::

8. Car: I catch the bus wherever I can. People in Perth can't drive. Besides, you can read on the bus (not so much when you are driving.)
I love catching the train to work for the same reason. It's peaceful, no one disturbs you (most of the time). :)

9. Animal: Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni
You had to make me look it up. :) So you like giant squid (for those of you who haven't looked it up yet). Excellent, nothing like a bit of variety.

Welcome to the group Ljuke. :D

The members of this group Rock! Giant squid!! How random is that. Congratulations Ljuke on knowing its latin name. You are officially the Trivia King of the Aussie Readers group!! lol

P.S. Sperm Whales freak me out. They can dive over 3 miles down into the ocean, hold their breath for an hour and they battle giant squid deep underwater. Imagine that!!;D

It's like the question "Favorite book"...it causes a malfunction in my circuitry. I envy anyone whose world is so clear-cut black-and-white. ;D
Sure, where's the music thread?

message 64: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) Thankyou for making me puzzle Queen. If you get stuck on anything else please let me know. I love cryptic crosswords, but sometimes I need help with those. Perhaps we could have a Curly Quiz Corner where we could set puzzles for each other, and help eachother with puzzles.

That's an excellent idea Jan! I'd be happy to start that. Do you have any suggestions for puzzles?

message 66: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) Not at present, although there is a name that book game in one of my other groups. We could play it, but restrict it to Aussie books.
Someone sets a puzzle e.g.

Novel with a pelican on the cover.

Then people can find one e.g.Storm Boy Storm Boy by Colin Thiele
Then they set the next challenge.

Me too me too!!! I think we are going to get on well.

I figure these favourite lists are flexible and we can come in and change out minds at any time. Didn't Sean Connery turn 70 just recently? He is close to the top of my list. The accent....:)

message 87: by Tracey (new)

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Annalie - your things to collect reminded me so much of my mother. We had an actual cupboard in our house that had nothing in it but recipe books, magazines with recipes, recipes she pinched from dr's offices - well you get the picture. And for all those recipes what did she cook most often? Meat and three veg. I really miss her sometimes.

Well, I gave it to my brother, so I think it's fair to be able to share the quick recipe with others too. You put on some pasta (spirals go really well with this one; if you don't have those, penne will do) and let it cook slowly; don't boil it too quick. Then, you make up a tomato-based chunky sauce with mushrooms, capsicum, carrots, beans, a touch of sugar (to cut the acidity of the tomatoes) and garlic. The herbs I use are: Tarragon and Paprika. If I grew Basil, I'd use, but the possums are really bad around where I live.
Anyway, get out a casserole dish and put on the oven and then grate some cheese. Once the pasta is completely cooked, put it in the bottom of the dish, put the sauce on the top evenly and the put some of the grated cheese on top of that and put it into a moderate oven for 20 minutes. Depending on how many you've got for dinner, you can feed up to 4 people on this... and it's very delicious.

No, the Hawks aren't in the finals. They got to the Preliminary Finals, but were beaten by Geelong... bummer. At least they got this far! Oh well, there's next year.

message 93: by [deleted user] (new)

The recipe sounds delicious. I might try it on my daughter while the men folk are away. :)

Possums are bad everywhere. They keep eating all the new growth from my climbing roses. >:(

I had one kill my last Basil tree when it got cocky after I left out a piece of sweet potatoe for it... it decided to garnish its tastebuds with my whole bloody tree! My basil tree was 6 years old and going well... until that critter got to it!

And it's the cheese that makes it fun for the kids... because it's all sticky and gooey, they'll eat anything attached to it... :)
