Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments Yes, that's the one we are getting. Also because you can see through the lid and it was deeper than the aluminium pan. I will just have to be extra careful about the temperature of what I add. We really do get a lot of use out of it, so....

That's good :) I'm going to have to get some (easy) recipes from you ;)

message 19653: by Regina (new)

Regina I don't think I have any substance left between my ears, I think this wind has blown it all out.

On the topic of slow cookers. I haven't used mine in years, I think it is too big capacity wise (yes I thought bigger would be better). My Thermomix on the other hand gets used a lot.

message 19654: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 89 comments I have a thermomix too - doesn't get a lot of use - but am learning to adjust recipes to suit myself. for instance I don't put egg in my rice pudding - a lot of the recipes didn't.

SO

I followed the recipe - except omited the egg and the sky didn't fall and it was delicious!

message 19655: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments I have to differ on the capacity issue, I think the bigger the better, but only because we tend to make soups and stews (ie freezable dishes), and (something hubby learned after a while) for virtually the same amount of preparation and clean up, you can have four meals instead of one.

I know your cooker came with recipes, Brenda, and I'm happy to supply some, but my BEST advice to you as a novice is to RESIST with all the willpower you have, RESIST, RESIST, RESIST adding more liquid than the recipe says. It might look like not enough, but after a few hours, there will be plenty, as long as you also resist opening the lid too often and letting all the steam out. You have a transparent lid, so you can see what's happening in there!
If you are adjusting a stew recipe for stovetop cooking, reduce the liquid in the recipe to 33-50% of that in the original recipe.

Thanks Marianne, that's a big help:) Yes there are a few recipes that I've found...there may be another recipe book in the box which I've not found yet:)

message 19657: by Regina (new)

Regina Marianne - I get what you are saying regarding the soups and stews etc. But alas I was following recipes that were for 4 serves/one meal (non-stew, non-soup recipes, and I was too lazy to double recipes etc).

Sally - I don't follow any of the Thermomix recipes exactly. It takes a little bit of time but eventually you know how to adapt the recipes to suit (times, amounts etc). Have you tried the Butter Chicken with Tikka Paste? Delicious. (I freeze the Tikka Paste into 100g batches. Also use more than 500g chicken) http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.p...

with my last Breville slow cooker there were recipes in the back of the instruction book. But I will keep an eye out in my charity shop trawl tomorrow, as I know I have seen Slow Cooker Recipe books at Vinnies etc

Jülie ☼♄  (jlie) | 6581 comments Brenda this month's Better Homes and Gardens magazine has some
nice slow cooker recipes :-P

They don't put many recipes in the back of the SC book but you can always Google recipes for SC.

My wife and I cooked a beef stir fry for the parents-in-law yesterday for Mother's Day, which was delicious.

My wife cooks pumpkin soup in our slow cooker during winter months, I can dig up the recipe if anyone is interested.

Sally906 | 89 comments I can't see how they can make it work. A lot of none book products I buy even with 10% are still cheaper than the same product here in Oz.

Most of the stuff I buy though just aren't available here so I am not doing anyone out of business.

Books aren't really cheaper - but book depository is postage free. If I buy here in Oz I have to pay for postage and it isn't cheap.

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3569 comments Well, I've just read through five pages of this thread catching up. You've all been very busy!

I spent the weekend helping to cater for wedding - according to my fitbit, I walked almost 20km on Saturday, which was the day of the wedding.

Am finally back online again. And I'll add my tick of approval to slow cookers - lamb shanks in a slow cooker...Yum!
