Today isn't Mother's day for us, but we celebrated today (my brother's birthday is tomorrow). I celebrated with my mom, and we were both spoiled. Mother's day is always a tad unusual for me as due to reasons, my son was placed for adoption at birth. This year I was treated to a lovely phone call from him and some new pictures - It was the best mommy's day gift <3

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments Well, KMart for a slow cooker was a big disappointment. Obviously, I haven't needed an appliance for a while: they seem to have only their brand, Homemaker, in most appliances. Sometimes they have another brand, but mostly, it's Homemaker. So now I know not to bother going there for appliances again.

Will have to head out to the electrical store alley in Warrawong, where there's Hardly Normal, Joyce and Do Mayne, Big W, Good Guys etc. Annoyingly, the Breville site actually lists KMart as a stockist.
I could go to Wollongong for DJs, Myer and Bing Lee, but I really resent having to pay for parking. And if I park in the free car park at Aldi, I'd have to lug a slow cooker all the way back to the car.
A Tuesday job, then I can also check out Big W for books and Salvos Warrawong (where they arrange the books in male and female author sections, Lionel Shriver is apparently male, someone will have to break the news to her, LOL).

Also a nice effort from his adoptive parents to encourage him to keep in touch with you.

I have been very spoilt today! A plant (as apposed to a bunch) of chrysanthemums from my daughter with a lovely card, plus a single rose and card from the place we had lunch. Also a combined gift from my son and his family, and my daughter and her partner of (Marianne!) a Breville Slow Cooker!!!

Some yummy meals (hopefully) coming up soon;)

That's fantastic Phrynne! And totally amazing that they would do that. I guess it would only be because it's Mother's Day...can't imagine they'd do it otherwise..

Oh that's Father's Day here - when is Father's Day over there then? Seems strange it's not the same everywhere, but I guess I've never thought about it...

message 19633: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments That's funny, I thouht Mothers day was the same everywhere but Fathers day differed but a quick look at Wikipedia tells me I am wrong. It lookss like it is 2nd Sunday in May for a great many countries, though

As you know Brenda, I didnt manage to get my replacement today, but i can vouch for the breville one, just dont put anything (fridge) cold in when its hot, and it will last you more than 6 and a half years!

Haha! Just reading the instruction booklet and made note of that point! But I'm thinking these instructions have been written by the Chinese - Don't leave the slow cooker unattended while it's cooking... If you are not at home while the slow cooker is cooking... LOL!

How's your hubby getting on now?

message 19649: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments Doing well, Brenda, he is off at the Good Guys today buying a new Slow Cooker: he just rang me in a quandry about which one to buy. They are still on special (for Mothers Day, I think) so good prices and we had decided on the 7l one with the aluminium pan that can also sear, but now he's leaning towards the 6l one with the ceramic bowl. So I'm online looking up product reviews and we're discussing the pros and cons on the phone..... what would we do without the internet!
Which one did you get?
But heart wise, all still good, fingers crossed!

6L ceramic bowl Marianne. Both son and daughter use ceramic bowls and love them :)

So glad his health is much improved. Such a relief. Hopefully he will continue onward and upward from now on :)
