I couldn't live in an earthquake prone area...how frightening. We went through one some years back now and it was terrifying!

Kathryn | 3569 comments After getting up before the crack of dawn for a dawn service yesterday, I went to bed very early last night and was then up ultra-early again this morning! On a Sunday! But at least I can snuggle down again with a book, listening to the gusty wind outside, but nice and warm inside!

We get tremors here all the time - we are close to Indonesia and if there is a quake in the Banda Sea we often feel it here if we're paying attention

Ashleigh, cant quite see where your are. Hopefully not in an earthquake zone? My Sherpa in Kathmandu posted yesterday that he ran from a shaking building when earthquake hit. Haven't heard from him since. My guide (from Everest trek that I'm writing a book on) has not posted. Hoping all okay.

How did you come to own a Sherpa, Juliette? And do you get much use out of it in Kathmandu?

message 19174: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3569 comments I grew up in the hills outside Perth, so I'm also familiar with earthquakes. I can still remember the Meckering one, and we were a fair way away from that epicentre. My thoughts and prayers are with the Nepalese people. It looks appalling.

message 19175: by [deleted user] (new)

I still remember the one a few years ago that caused havoc on your neighbours in Christchurch NZ.

My prayers are with Nepal - the Death toll and injured toll is disastrously high :(

Suz | 4439 comments Hey I have a question for anyone, I'm trying to cut drastically down my TBR and sometimes when I hover the mouse over the title (from my TBR list) the description of the book comes up and I can quickly decide whether to delete or not. But then sometimes the description doesn't come up?? Not important at all, but does save time. Or is it just me, he he?!

People are inclined to forget this bit of history - the arrival of the first settlers is what we focus on.

I wonder what Cook would think if he sailed in today?
