Sally906 | 89 comments well it does this with normal rain Brenda - but probably nots as much as today - and withthe power out to a pumping station the normal filtering not happening.

Good on your Mum Sally;)

Just discovered our garage has flooded:( Done what I can (which isn't much until the rain stops) but I guess lots will be thrown away once it's all done! Good excuse for a clean up I think :/

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments Yeah, last night was horrid, had no sleep, but wasn't really aware apart from the noise how bad it all was, then woke this morning to mum's husband banging on our door, and at the same time our daughter calling our mobile from Inverell wondering f we were okay as they lost all power and he drove a horrid ten mintues here. Gave him a fumase flask with hot water. Then drove down to Nelson Bay through flooded street near us, to get cigarettes and the town was vacant and it is still blowing that scary type of wind with tree brances falling everywhere. I hope my car survives out side. It was flooded this morning in the front because we are on a slop and it is facing downwards and no where else to put it

Not good! I'd say lots of people will have lots of different stories to tell after this. I hope the damage doesn't continue, though I suspect it will:(

message 18977: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Higgins | 105 comments Between 9am yesterday and 9am today we had 121mm here in Gosford. We have our own rain gauge and we checked it again just before 7 and it was only 35mm. So far we still have power (though a lot of people on the central coast don't). We had to move our birds from the room they were in because a palm tree out the front has been dropping heavy branches due to the wind and you can't really predict where they will fall. We have candles ready etc. It's meant to get worse here on the Central Coast.

message 18978: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9868 comments On the news they said that Newcastle has had 300mm rain and Sydney 120mm with another stormfront heading for the Hunter and more rain over the next 12h and flooding expected to get worse.
Stay safe Brenda and Leonie and all those in the Hunter and on the Central Coast.

Sally906 | 89 comments Mum decided with another storm front coming through she didn't want to be by herself in the dark with no power and her battery radio had died and mobile was almost out.

So my sister drove over and collected her. Sister has water coming through a wall so the towels are down. But they have power at the moment.

We seem to be pretty good in the Upper Hunter, so far, Carolyn - it sounds like Newcastle has had a really dreadful time, though, and Dungog is just awful.

I love short summers, Melissa! I lived in Zurich for a year with pretty much the same weather, but with 4 months of snow in between and only 2-3 months of hot weather. Oh gosh, I LOVED it!

message 18986: by K (new)

K | 1143 comments I am glad most of you are keeping safe in the wild weather hitting central NSW. I saw some of your comments earlier today, but didn't realise the full extent of it until I saw The Project tonight. My well wishes are with you all!

message 18987: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Higgins | 105 comments Yep next storm front has hit here. Wind has picked up again and we have thunder and lightning really close together. I looked on the BOM and it's yellow and red on central coast, with another front heading towards us after the one now. This one now looks like it will move to hunter again but it depends on the wind.

Kelly Higgins | 105 comments When they start comparing it to a category 2 cyclone that's when the extent becomes real. They can't actually call it a tropical cyclone instead of an east coast low because we don't live in a tropical area.

And cyclones are just not meant to come down this low!!!

message 18992: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Higgins | 105 comments Hence why so many people just weren't prepared for the severity. Houses floating away? Yes the Hunter area floods, but enough for the foundations to fail and the whole house to float down the river? More like because they weren't built for these situations because NSW isn't normally cyclone prone. Uprooted trees, power lines down are normal in a severe storm.
