Sharon | 5509 comments Thanks Marianne and Juliie. Yes thankfully mum is a lot better but now I just need to catch up on other things. But as a dear friend from this group pointed out that's it's important to take time out for myself which is very true.

Glad your mum is ok now - must have been scary for you. Even though you're busy make time for you. Even if it is only 30 mins with your eyes closed listening to music or nature patting your dog.

Sharon so sorry to hear about your Mum not being well and I can imagine it would have been quite a worrisome and scary time for you. I did wonder what had happened to you as I missed you here on AR. Glad to hear she's doing better now and is home and you can hopefully relax and get back on track. And back to your reading especially. :)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments An update: tomorrow, hubby will have a TOE (trans oesophageal echo) with a cardioversion. This will hopefully fix the problem, but no guarantees. Next step, if this fails or if he reverts, is ablation, which is done under general anaesthetic in Sydney.
He is in good spirits but bored with being in hospital and quite fed up with the food. But fasting from midday so I can't bring him the requested Cheese and vegemite sandwich, even if it's with low-fat cheese....

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments Thanks all for the good wishes. Fingers (and everything else) crossed!!

On the treadmill this morning, 7am, still 8k to go when the power goes off. Not a blip, stays off. Bummer!

OK, what can I do without power?

Well, I can make a batch of yoghurt, and cook up some soup and make a cup of tea with breakfast (metal kettle stashed away for this purpose), because I have a gas range (always grateful for that on these occasions)

I could write a few reviews but the battery on the laptop and the tablet and the phone are going to run down....
ditto to paying Mum's bills online.

I could pop down to the Post Office and the shops, but opening the garage door in a power outage is challenging, especially as it's dark in there in this weather (it's pouring rain and cold), not exactly walking weather, so perhaps delay that one.

Oh here's a man delivering something to me in a truck. That's right, it's the satellite phone Telstra are giving us because our phone line is out (lucky the internet is on another line!), but of course I can't charge it because the power is out.

I can use up the avocados in the fridge to make some guacamole, no power except my own required for that.

Let's just use the tablet to see how long it's going to be out (yay, another advantage of having a tablet with 4G). Oh bummer, midday.

I could tidy the house :(
maybe not.
I could have a cup of coffee and read :D

Oh look, 9am and the power's back on.

Well, breakfast over with, yoghurt and soup almost made. Guess I can check the mail then get back to the treadmill and read, or as Vicki said TRead.

Geez Marianne, what you get up to without power could generate enough power to light up a small country! I imagine your treadmill going.."thank goodness for small mercies!" Lol :)

You need to invest in one of those small, portable chargers for your electronic devices. You can take it with you for back up power. They are not very big and store quite a good amount of charge in them for extra power.

Carolyn | 9868 comments I'm glad to be home. I had to go to a meeting near the city this morning and then battle my way home on the bus at lunch time. We just made the same comment Carolyn - so glad to be home; inside out of the terrible weather (and it's bucketing down here now!) I feel sorry for drivers trying to get home at the end of the day. There are bound to be accidents as those few people persist in not adjusting their driving to the conditions!
