Sounds like you'd better have more Pear Cider - that'll fix you;) Take care!

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Woken up this morning by the cops knocking on my door (lucky, too, I'd slept through my alarm) - next door apparently got threatened with a gun in the early hours. Fun fun.

That sounds pretty scary Liam. Good thing you slept through it all by the sound if it! Was it a burglary?

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) The next doors are a bit dodgy to be honest so I'm not sure.

You're lucky they didn't get the wrong house. That's been known to happen

My Reading Challenge for 2014 was 200 books. Just noticed I currently stand at 243. I think I might challenge myself to make it 250 books by December 31st????

Go for it! Mine is set at 220 and I'm currently 1 book behind schedule, but I hope to remedy that in the next week.

Whitley Wow you must read fast!!!!
I read like 12-18 books a year and that is without a break between them, when I finish one I start another. My time is taken up by so many other things

Well, I've been awake since 2:30am...Argggghh!! Christmas shopping today...I wonder how many coffees I'll need to survive the onslaught.

Going away next weekend SO really need to get it done pronto! :(

Xmas shopping is okay but trying to buy food is dreadful! Is everyone stocking up against a siege or something? I'm pretty sure the supermarket only closes for one day.

Oh Laura I feel for you, I have been awake since 2am as well! What is it...the witching hour?! (⊙_☉) At least I got all my shopping done yesterday. Keep the caffeine up and you might just power through your day...good Luck.

Agreed, you'd think the end of the world was coming or something. Every year, the same thing happens. We get a huge rush down here down to late 'arriving for Christmas' tourists. The town swells from 40,000 to 55,000 for the summer break. If you're a local and smart, you go out before 8.30am from now till end January.

message 15971: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9869 comments I took a half day off yesterday to finish my Christmas shopping in the city. I thought the shops wouldn't be too bad but they were manic, particularly the toy dept. I was shattered by the time I got home and needed a sit down and a strong cup of tea. I always try to get it done early to avoid the rush but never seem to get everything. Now I just have to wrap it all and ship off parcels to my family in Perth, Melbourne and Darwin :)

Sorry to hear the ones who have been awake since 2am! Do you read at that hour to make yourselves tired again? I do, and it always makes me sleepy so I can go back again:)

Know what you mean, Bette. Our Population quadruples over December and January. Locals go out grocery shopping at 7am or stock up as much as they can so they don't have to go near shops more than necessary.
But I figure if we didn't have these tourists, we wouldn't have all the lovely coffee shops and facilities we have. So we just adjust.

I was doing the opposite. I had gone to be early because so tired and then back up reading till well after midnight.Must be something about the time of year, weather or who knows?

Just back to a computer (new computer, new maddening system) after a long spell in hospital and rehab, following a nasty fall, which resulted in a hip fracture. Lot of changes here Brenda. Can't see any new post instruction on Our Authors' Spotlight where I want to announce a free download -- to show I'm back in business. :-)

Welcome back Ian! So sorry you had such a bad fall, but glad you're on the mend now:)

You can do your free download either in the Giveaways thread https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... (make a new thread) or in the Author Spotlight section in your own thread (edit the heading) or better yet, make a new thread in the author section - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Let me know if you have any problems:)
