You could say that, Laura! It was truly spectacular. It caused huge amounts of damage here in town, and some of the hail stones had long tails on them. Just bizarre. I don't think I've ever seen the sky quite that shade of deep green.

From the back of our house, you could see two storms merge and swirl, and then it went very dark and the hail began.

Margaret Sharp (margaretlynettesharp) | 1215 comments It's so strange that some suburbs get heaps of rain, and others get hardly any. We got practically nothing from today's storm, but there was a little rain later on. Still a very small amount, though.

Momentarily, until I evoked that rule, then the game would be up, so to speak...
I think what irritates me is that he is taking it so seriously. It's meant to be fun and he's taking too long deliberating moves....I end up complaining every time he takes too long.

That was the reason I gave up playing chess with my husband. I didn't mind getting beaten but I could have read a book in the time it took him to make a move.

Are you talking about the Word Rummikub or the maths version. I am hooked on the Word Rummikub it is awesome. I teacher Literacy to teenagers who have very low literacy levels - but they love this game.

Neko @Faye - Is Word Rummikub good for children of the age 8 and up? I'm just wondering if it's a good starting age since you work with kids with low lit levels.

Sharon | 5509 comments Hubby and I did Chrismas shopping today which wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Lucky we don't have a lot to buy for. I did buy a friend a plant but I liked it so much much I put it in my own garden. Oops I will have to buy another one now before Christmas :)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9989 comments Came back from my walk today, garage door wouldn't open when I pressed the button, pressed the button, pressed the button. Then I remembered: power off from 8.30 till 4pm. @#$*%@
Now, I had keys so I could get in but how do I get the car out of the garage? Gotta go see mum, and I had a very important book discussion date with a friend. Had to ring hubby at work. Pull this cord, do that, etc all in a dark garage (no lights. of course! the power's off)
Thankfully all back on when I got home, but had to restart my laptop.

Every time you look at that plant you will think of your friend.
I bought my sister a necklace one year and I liked it so much I decided to keep it and every time I wear it someone will comment how nice it is.

Even if I couldn't check the weather on the computer or the library site to see if they had a book: the laptop worked fine (for a while) but the modem didn't!

I'm sorry - I have to laugh - I am sure it packed a wallop though being dropped from a height so would have been sore.

At least the bird was deprived of its snack as punishment :)

Sally906 | 89 comments I'm really cranky this morning - our youngest daughter and family live in Deception Bay north of Brissy.

Lunchtime yesterday they are in Sydney - 3 am this morning I get a text (when I woke up) saying they were home!!!

Despite my asking them if they could PLEASE stop along the way they drove up the coast road at night!!!

Now I don't know if the road has improved in the last 20 years since we drove down it - but it used to be a nightmare of a road. And driving 12 hours without break is just daft!

She says she will ring me at lunch - but I can't trust myself to be civil so I will ignore the call and ring her when I am in a better state of mind.

The only thing I am hoping for is that my grandson slept soundly in the car and woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning so she can't sleep in.

Nasty vindictive mum aren't I :)

message 15934: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80186 comments Mod
Oh Sally I don't blame you for being angry at them - I would be furious! The main thing is that they actually arrived safely. But the road up to Coffs and half way to Grafton has improved out of sight. But up north of there, there are lots of road works and go slow areas for a long way. PLUS the weather has been atrocious with it raining all night here, and bad storms up on the Coffs coast up to Brisbane! They wouldn't have been caught in our weather, but the Gold Coast/Brisbane they would have....

Be thankful they got there safely and that at least your little grandson would be happy:)

That's so funny, Bette!

A few years ago, our son and my husband were playing golf. My husband hit the only straight shot he'd played all day, and a magpie swooped down and picked up his ball and flew away!

Don't know what it is with birds...

I'm much better but I have a lingering cough as most people do when getting over this infection :|
