Veronica ⭐️ | 2387 comments I'm back home now. Belinda Alexandra was lovely ( of course). She spoke about her research and the characters ,real and fictional, of Sapphire Skies. I loved how she spoke about characters as if they were real people in the room with her. Things like that she couldn't write anything in the early afternoon and realised it was because her characters were Spanish and were having their siesta. Also talking about another character she said" I told him to sit down, but he wanted to stand up" hilarious

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9992 comments Good Morning Early Birds!
I seem to be up even earlier than I intended this morning. My bedroom clock is apparently creeping ahead each day (and it's electric, so not sure why this is happening) and I didn't realise it had crept 20 mins since the last time I set it. So here I am posting before even Bette!!

We have one that does that too Marianne. We thought it was the clock and replaced it. But the next clock does the same. Not sure how but it must be something to do with that power point as it doesn't happen anywhere else in the house. We just learn to keep adjusting the clock. Otherwise it gets faster and faster.

I stayed at a variety of places. Started off at Springwood, then at Del Rio Resort in Wiseman's Ferry and finally in Ingleburn. I had a great time :) Even faced my fears and went on a ferry ride yesterday afternoon to Manly and back.

Hi Suzanne

Both of my girls were reading the Louise Rennison books in the Georgia Nicolson series. Louise Rennison
They were also reading the Anne Brasheres Sisterhood books. Ann Brashares
The keen reader was also working her way through the first 5 Harry Potter books and the Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot Meg Cabot
Other authors she loved were:
Ursula Dubosarsky Ursula Dubosarsky
Judy Blume Judy Blume
Carolyn Mackler Carolyn Mackler
Kate DiCamillo Kate DiCamillo
Alyssa Brugman Alyssa Brugman
Jacqeline Wilson Jacqueline Wilson

Let me know when she starts asking to read John Green, then you know she is growing up. :)

message 13471: by Suz (new)

Suz | 4439 comments Thanks John! Great list for us to look at. They've started Ann Brasheres (they are always at the second hands shops), they've not looked at Harry Potter - nor have I, they've started John Green (maybe too early I don't know..). I'm keen to show them all these. Princess Diaries would be good. My 11yo is about to read my copy of Heidi as I just came across it. Thank you thank you for the great list, I'm learning a lot :)

I just got back from seeing The One Hundred Year Old Man at the cinema. It was SO good. Really funny- laugh aloud funny - the audience certainly all had a good time. It was done really well - based on the book, some changes and exclusions but staying true to the overall import of the story. Loved it and recommend it to everyone who has a sense of humour:)

They've both read The Fault in Our Stars, they are 11 and 13, and the 13yo is in the middle of Paper Towns. Prior to this (more than 12 mths ago it was The Babysitters Club so I didn't have to worry about content. All their school friends are reading them apparantly. Then I bought some Jaclyn Moriartybooks from their library so I guess the step up is quite a broad one. Their friends even read Jodie Picoult. I've only read The fault in our stars and wasn't bowled over..

Sounds great Phrynne! I was worried it would come out a bit farsical if not done well but it sounds like they avoided that.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that we're going on holidays (again!) on Friday:) Down the south coast this time - a week at a little place near Bateman's Bay then 3 days in Nowra:) We'll be home on the 1st September. Anyone who loved the book should also love the film. It has retained the sense of humour of the book and the actor who plays the 100 year old man is delightful. Of course it has differences from the book because it had to leave things out but the essence is the same.

Funny how all the girls are reading TFIOS. I read it and thought it was quite good, but not John Green's best work. Paper Towns was much better and the road trip was hilarious. I believe the movie is in production.

I thought Looking for Alaska Looking for Alaska was fantastic, but I suggest you read it before giving it to your 13 year old.

Also try Jay Asher's Thirteen Reasons Why. Thirteen Reasons Why
