Going to uni was such a struggle this morning.

Nice :)

I have been to several now, it's a really lovely day out. We take the train up to Sydney, then off to whichever nice hotel it's at (Four Seasons tomorrow), sip champagne, drink wine, have a two course meal, listen to th author talk, ask questions, then get our book signed, back home on the train.
First one was Jodi Picoult and her daughter Samantha van Leer talking about Lone Wolf and Between the Lines. Jodi had Tony Delroy and various audience members up on stage doing different wolf howls, it was absolutely hilarious.
Next was John Elder Robison talking about Raising Cubby: A Father and Son's Adventures with Asperger's, Trains, Tractors, and High Explosives and Asperger's generally. He was amazing! Such an articulate ambassador for those on the spectrum.
Then Kathy Reichs talking about Bones of the Lost and her subject generally. There were TV cameras at that one and I starred in the line getting my book signed. (see http://www.randomhouse.com.au/blog/be... I'm in the sixth pic down, light blue jumper)
In October, we're going to see Graeme Simsion for the launch of The Rosie Effect
Organised by Dymocks Events. (see http://www.dymocks.com.au/LiteraryEve...) Not cheap, but if you pay for membership, the lunches are cheaper.
I highly recommend them as a very enjoyable day out.
You've certainly been to a few top ones Marianne! Good on you...Your October one should be fantastic too.

Oh no Marianne, you've planted the seed. I've just been onto the Dymocks site.. Who do you go with? I don't have an interested hubby, I'm pretty much the lone reader in my circle. I'd love to go to Graeme Simsion though.

Congratulations to your daughter. And kudos to you for surviving a Zumba class :)

We (my party of four) were at the table with Karin Slaughter !!!!!
All my Christmases have come at once.
When we arrived at the Four Seasons, we checked where the lunch was to be, and what table we would be on, and Judy Benson says, Oh, you're on table three with Karin.
Well, we could not wipe the smiles off our faces. It was just great. We got to chat to her over lunch, then up on stage she spoke about Cop Town for a good long while, no notes, really interesting, all of it, answered some questions from the audience, then out to sign books. As well as Cop Town (in which she also corrected the typo I found, and yes, she remembered me emailing her about that), I brought along Beyond Reach and said I wanted her to sign that because she made me cry in that one. She wrote "Marianne, thanks for crying, I cried too."
Afraid I didn't get much in the way of decent photos: one of the drawbacks of being so close to the stage was the light was so bright, but I did get a couple which I'll email to Brenda to put up, if they look any good.
And she shook my hand, what a pity I'll have to go & wash it, I do have to shower before work tomorrow......
Wow! Wow! Wow! Marianne! How amazing! What memories you've made today...what a fabulous time! Yes, I'll put your photos up:) Nah! Don't wash that hand...just wear a glove;)

How was the lunch or were you too busy talking to even notice what you were eating ;)

Oh, no the food was really lovely too. And we touched on so many things, fracking and drought and Dutch licquorice and Tim Tams and proof reading and Oh, I can't remember what else, I'll have to ask my sister and my friends. I'm still on such a high!

I looked for you but didn't see you Marianne. But then I wasn't looking for you on THAT table. You are one very lucky person. She was a good speaker wasn't she.
