How exciting!

Wow, David, fan-bloody-tastic! Congratulations. :D

Congratulations :)

I'm completely over people using the f*ck word etc in reviews! Honestly, I just don't see the need for this. I am not expletive free in myself but would never use such words in a book review. Surely people can use other words to express themselves.

And I agree with them. I find it offensive in GR; it's offensive to other readers and users. Like I said, I swear but never in social media.

Yep I agree, one of my pet hates too. I'm not a prude, and I don't use strong swear words myself but understand others do. But really to use the F word so frequently in one sentence (I saw a review that had it 6 times in one sentence - and she liked the book!) If you read books surely your vocabulary skills are such that you can find other adjectives to indicate your pleasure, or displeasure, with the book you have just read?
My finger has often hovered over the flag button but never followed through as I am worried I would be accused of being a grumpy old woman.
Ok so I AM a grumpy old woman - LOL!

There was complete silence in the office - heads popped up to check that the word had actually popped out of my mouth and not someone standing near me. I don't know who was more shocked, me or my work mates :)
To this day hassle calls at work are called Sally calls - a never- ending reminder of the day Sally was driven to swear :)

That's a very funny story, Sally - although I'm sure it wasn't while it was happening!
I'm another who's not fond of swearing in reviews. I always wonder why someone needs to do that to make their point - surely the English language has enough other words that they can use to make their point. And as Bette has said, if they're a reader, surely they've read a fair few of them?
I'm also not a prude, but I do choose not to swear myself - don't really see the need. I could possibly be classed as grumpy, though, particularly by our kids... :)

Neither will The Reading Room. And I totally agree Bette...why is it necessary??

Haha! That's hilarious! You poor thing though - I do hope they commended you for your calm during the call!

I agree with Bette, Sally, Leonie and Brenda. I don't bother to read some reviews if they insist on using language I find offensive. It's my bug bear in some of today's books as well. Just over it!

Cool! :)
Morning, Bette.

Isn't that a buzz! Have had that happen twice now and it lifted my whole day.
Good Morning, Early Girls!

That's nice Bette.

Cool! :)

So pleased to hear everything is working out with your German Shepard, Faye. What breed is the one you hope to bring home today? Good luck with it all :)

Makes me feel ill and mad at the same time.

Thanks Sharon, well I didn't bring the new dog home, because he was too dominant for my dog, however, not all was lost, it has been decided that the dog I went to see should be rehomed as an only pet. The shelter could not believe the difference in the dog I have as I got her from that shelter. They are going to ring me if a more suitable companion comes along. Will keep you posted and thanks for your interest.

This link is disgusting, I have never agreed with these sort of pet shops selling animals. Whilst it is sad and upsetting to see animals in the shelters, it is rewarding to give them a home or know that they have been got some care and these shelters really do a great job with the resources they have. Some people should not have animals or children.

We ended up with a half shepherd from a shelter about thirteen years ago - he was called Razz. The rest of him we think might have been great dane. He'd been in the shelter for eight months because people thought he was ugly, but he was such a lovely dog they used him for nearly all of their PR work.
We had him only four years as he ended up with lymphoma, but he was the most lovely dog. It didn't matter where we took him, he just acted like a small child magnet (to the horror of the parents). He'd just relax and let them crawl all over him.
I'd definitely recommend a rescue pet :)

Awesome :)

At least now that dog will go to a more suited person or family, Faye. I'm sure you'll soon find a great companion for yours very soon :)

Good on you for signing the petition and for posting the link here, Vicki. I subscribe to Change.com and saw the petition a couple of day ago. It's good to send it to all your friends who may not be aware this happened.

They are. Except for my two boxers, I've never had a pet from anywhere else than a shelter or rescue centre. They are the best pets; almost like they know you have 'saved' them.
And if you can't have a pet, then why not help in some way - volunteer once a week, fortnight or month. I do and it is so rewarding.

Thankyou Sharon, that is exactly what my husband and I were saying yesterday, yes we will find another, I also believe in some way they find you.

Good on you Alex, saving the cats, the lady at the shelter told me they get 100 cats week and that is on average.

Good on you Bette, I knew you were all nice people saving cats and dogs.
Our daughter's little Holly she rescued just before Christmas is doing really well too...she's an adorable little dog:)

Butch the Bull Terrier. I never even really knew him, he died of a cancer when I was very young. But he was my uncle's originally, who kept him tied by his neck in the back yard to a post, and would occasionally give give him a bone with some meat on it for food, and abused him horribly. Mum eventually rescued him (much to my asshole uncle's impotent rage) and he was the most loyal and beautiful animal you've ever seen.
He used to patrol around my crib and growl when strangers got near me. :( And yes mum used to say I was her little kraut. Then my hair got darker and lost its curls. :P

That's a great story Liam (after your Mum rescued Butch)...why would your uncle have even wanted a dog!
