Welcome back - took us 2 weeks to get over our jet lag so I am envious over your quick recovery :)

Sydney has been pretty kind to us this summer so far. I keep hearing about the awful heat in Victoria and South Australia and even Canberra and I feel we are very lucky here.

The horrors of the bushfires in Victoria and SA at the moment, NSW in October last year (too early but...) with WA copping it too...another reason I hate summer!

I'm over it too, Brenda, majorly. We evacuated today as there was a major fire in Warrandyte,Vic. We are home now but have been advised to stay on high alert. We've heard that homes have been lost and although we are on the other side of the river, the Yarra, there was the fear that with the wind change the fire could jump across. I am thankful that didn't happen and once again cannot praise the hard work of the CFA who are amazing. Without wanting to sound melodramatic I am so grateful that we had a house to come home to. Some don't, tonight.

Oh Elaine, I was thinking of you today, and hoping you were alright! You poor things, your nerves must be shot to pieces:(

Thank you Brenda. I must say that today especially I didn't really care about anything but getting my family safely out of here. We could see and smell smoke and hear the sirens and helicopters and that was frightening enough. I can't imagine how awful it must have been for those closer to the fire. Eerie thing is it occured only 2 days from the anniversary of the Black Saturday fires. That was scary. So thankful the outcome was so different....although homes were lost no lives were.

They were saying that the conditions seemed to be as bad as Black Saturday's fires too:(

Ahem I seem to remember back in Spring when I was saying I wanted Winter back, you were the first to tell me to move to Canada :P

That's frightening...to think that anything like that could ever happen again. Just awful. I also have close friends who live near Gisborne and Wallan and fires are still active in those areas. So am concerned for them as well.

Thank you. I'm hoping it's the worst of it Brenda. Goodnight. :)

ahhh dont usually watch tv but I did catch that. He and his girlfriend are just insane. That footage of him in the lift afterwoods was just chilling.

Not melodramatic in the least. It is terrifying. Thank goodness you're all okay...
The CFA warnings and alerts have been popping up all night for your area.

Couldn't agree more, Michael.

Mine are inside (hot or cold) too as are my twin's but she had to work. My boxers love to suck on little ice-cubes! But are banished to the kitchen while they partake of that messy treat:)

Yes, I knew she was a kindle best selling author! Until yesterday, I could see no paper editions at all.

What a good woman you are! Thank you. You know I was despairing of ever having the chance to read your work. My kindle friends down here refuse to lend me their kindles so I can read your books. I can't imagine why? selfish buggers, they are:)
It's good you've added those details to GR; probably there are other 'real' book readers like myself also interested. I'll be making my choices and purchases today/tomorrow.

My pleasure, Bette. If it helps, Fatal Liaison is my bestseller, followed closely by Thin Blood.
Yes, alas sharing a Kindle is not quite as easy as sharing a paper book. :)

When I saw wwwlulu.com, I thought ooh, hope that's not same as that 'app'lulu recently written up Forbes magazine! Thankfully, not!

I hadn't heard about that. Just Googled it and all I say is wow.

Yeah, me too!

Thank you Vicki. It certainly is quite a harrowing experience but makes you realise that all that counts are people. Making sure that all your family and friends are safe. So many friends were in danger yesterday and it was wonderful to see everyone in the community looking out for one another. Complete strangers living nearby, that were not under threat, were offering their homes to those that had nowhere to go. I even heard that our two local shopping centres were allowing people in with their pets and providing water and power. How wonderful is that? This is the great Aussie spirit...we all come together when it counts.

Elaine, I know how you felt. I grew up in Dandenong Ranges and we were evacuated 8 times between my age of 2 to 13; it's pretty scary stuff, isn't it? Thank God your home and loved ones are safe,:) Sadly, it is the penalty of living is such a gorgeous place...

I heard that tonight too Elaine:( I wish they could catch them - I don't understand the mentality of anyone who would deliberately light fires at any time, let alone this type of weather! Total morons!
