Wow! Have a wonderful time! It's VERY hot there, and the flies are exceptionally bad. They hang around your face all the time. We had special nets for our faces which you had to quickly lift to put a drink bottle under, and often a fly came too!! Other than that, it's fabulous!

Coming soon? Don’t we already do that? (Apart from plugging Kindle. :-))

Angela | 351 comments My Free Dictionary app states that today's word of the day is 'bric-a-brac', one of the synonyms being 'knickknackery'... try using THAT in a sentence today! :)

I often use knick knacks as a word - as a collective noun for all those little treasures you collect which don't actually have a purpose. Bric-a-brac has a similar meaning. Knickknackery sounds a bit odd!

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) On the 20th (yesterday) of November 1985, Windows 1.0 was released.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Guy: "Excuse me but I'm not paying for this printing."
Me: "Well you sort of have to, I'm sorry"
Guy: "But look how curled up this paper is, I have to present this at a meeting"
Me: "I'm sorry, it's a pretty old printer."
Guy: "That isn't my fault, you should have fixed it"
Me: "Sorry but we're not a printer. If you need something printed really nice, Office and Image just over there should be able to he-"
Guy: "I'm not going there, it's too expensive."
Me: "Well I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you."
Guy: "Let me use your staff printer."
Me: "Our staff printer is the printer you're complaining about. We have a photocopier out the back, but it's on the fritz at the moment. Sorry."
Guy: "This is unacceptable. You're providing a service, you should provide it properly."
Me: "Well we do have several thousand books. Again, if you want something printed nicely, Office and Image are just over there, or the Post Office I guess, but they're probably even more expensive. We're a library, we just happen to have a printer available for use for the public.

I'm going to have to ask that you pay for your 50 cents of printing."

I swear I've never been closer to punching someone in my entire life

Liam you did an amzing job at biting your tongue. Im not sure I could have. Which is probably why I dont work in customer service :)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) I'm better than I would have been a year or two ago, Zoey :P

I get pretty sick of people thinking that just because the library has public computer access and photocopying/printing/scanning/etc., that we're responsible for helping them with all that stuff.

I had someone the other day who wanted me to help them write a CV. I had a bit of trouble explaining that just because we have free computers, we aren't Centrelink or an employment agency.

message 9823: by [deleted user] (new)

You did well Liam!

I work in customer service ( bar tender and waitress) and I find it so hard! Sometimes I swear I have to think for people, Im lucky that when its bad I just go hide in the bar and make drinks and not talk haha.

The other day I had a guest come up as ask if he was at the pool bar....the bar is quite literally in the pool with a huge sign on it that says pool bar... but no sir this is most differently the in house restaurant.

True this especially if you live in a small place. Thankfully never had this experience myself but I have worked in retail (as most people do) and come up against some people I'd rather slap than give a warm smile towards.

Yes if you don't have tickets you won't get in! Amazing the amount of people who go...there were between 60 - 80 people there today, we had lunch provided (we had to pay a fee) with wine, champagne, orange juice as well. It was lovely!

I know you'll enjoy your day too Kelly.
