Thanks Laura, yes she's over the moon! Just trying to get a job now!

I only said to hubby yesterday that this heat is getting to me (already!) let's move to Tassie for the next 4 months!! lol

message 9706: by Neko (new)

Neko Oohh job hunting how unfun but hopefully for her it won't be too frustrating!

Lol..We still need to get Summer..It may be a hot one like the newspaper predicted (I really hope not..mid heat is fine but nothing scorching hot).

message 9707: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3569 comments I think we're fine here as the wind is blowing the fire away from us. May not have been the case if it had started on the other side of the road though. Water bombing is now underway.

Great Laura but like you, I'm pretty much over this cold weather and have been stuck in door.

I really want summer to come :(

Neko I've totally forgotten how to quote things here :|

@Brenda - I admittedly don't know much about Fiji. What made Port Denarau so good?

@Mish- Baah :( Hopefully the summer breeze will come and allow you to step outside and not need to hide inside for much longer!!

Mind you I didn't realise I was reading to beat my own record I only found the stats button today in the 'My Groups' section so didn't know my top read was 156. but now I know...I feel compelled to beat it!

We were in Warrnambool main street & they played it over the whole area. Amazing how virtually everyone stopped walking/talking/whatever and stood still: kind of like a 'freeze-frame', quite eerie. The Last Post always gives me a lump in my throat.

The son of the guy I grew up next to was killed in Afghanistan 2009 and the Herald Sun had a huge photo of him; it made me cry, Ben Renaudo was 21 and a gorgeous kid: his Dad has been a wreck since Ben died.

message 9738: by Geoff (new)

Geoff Woodland | 313 comments Never fails to affect me – from 16 to 18 years of age I went to sleep each night with the last post being played. As the last ‘G’ sounded, all the lights went out, and we slipped asleep (eventually).
A few hours late when they played reveille at 6.00 am, that was something else on a cold winters morning in North Wales running to the showers across open ground :-o)

Oh the poor man...that is tragic to lose a son so young. And they're mostly all young, the ones who lose their lives. Such a dreadful waste of life:(

About 500 people at a lunch today where George R.R. Martin was the guest speaker. He was very good. He pretends to be old and cranky but is actually very entertaining. The queue for the book signing was amazing!

A lot of people seemed to be awestruck! There was certainly dead silence in the room when he was talking. There were an unusual number of young people there too perhaps because of the TV show as well as the books.

I saw him speak at supanova.
I was in awe! His knowledge of historic queens is rather awesome.

I liked that he wasnt trying to play it humble he had a pretty good career right off the bat, and new he was a good writer, but seemed humbled by how big A song of fire and ice got.

Such an interesting and funny man, also got my book signed :)

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments well, not sure if it amazon or because of the gst, but still appears cheaper to shop on amazon. One of my books on kindle US site is $3.90 and the australian site for 4.16 - so ironically it is still cheaper to by from the US
