Oh snow.....wish we could add some of that to the heat which is coming our way Michele!

Thanks too:)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) God I wish it was snowy here. It's starting to heat up again, Winter come back :C

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) My kingdom for a house in the northern hemisphere so it could never be Spring or Summer.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Yeah I had a very light headache all day too, not enough to complain about but just enough to make it uncomfortable. And everything that I enjoy involves staring at something for long periods of time :C

Another very interesting evening listening to crime writer Michael Robotham Michael Robotham talk. I thoroughly enjoyed the discussion, with questions and answers at the end, and the very large crowd obviously did too. As a journalist in his "past life" working in the UK and other countries, the stories he told were wonderful. A very nice guy. I have a photo but am having trouble getting it off my phone for some reason:( When I get it to work, I will add it here:)

I am seriously impressed. I once tried cross stitch, but the thing I made was minuscule, an drove me mad. To actually have the patience to complete things as large as that is impressive! And then to be eager to do more...

Absolutely beautiful Ashleigh:) You have a real talent there. The only thing wrong with it that I could see is it says "made in USA"....that's not right, it should be "made in Australia by Ashleigh" ;)

message 9362: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (pjaye) Lovely dolphins!
Do you sign your work?
I used to do a lot of cross stitch and I always added my name and the year at the bottom.
I was looking at one on my wall the other day and for the first time in a long time, noticed that the date was 1992...and I suddenly had an OMG moment when I realised I made it 21 years ago!
Ack, when did I get so old? I often catch myself thinking that 1993 was 10 years ago...instead of 20.

message 9363: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (pjaye) I just used some graph paper and drew out my name, just in backstitch/outline (whatever you call it) not in actual cross stitch. That made it a lot easier and I could use the same pattern every time.

I hadn't seen it, Bette, and I've only just read the initial post (with the 2 updates) although I see there are over 3000 comments on it!! But from reading that first post it just sounds like common sense and common courtesy to restrict your book reviews to comments about the book. And I have no shelves based on authors anyway, let alone shelves that make a personal comment about an author or authors, so I don't think it will affect me.

It strikes me as strange that it has attracted so many comments! I guess we're all different...

I hadn't seen it before Bette but it makes sense to me. After all, we are meant to be giving impressions of the book not the author's life.

Kathryn | 3569 comments Hey Dale,

If I knew how to insert photos in GR I could post a screen shot, but photos sound like they're a bit beyond my capabilities so I'll try to describe it.

If you click on an author's name, scroll down until you get to where it shows the author's books (just below the author's profile) - it says the author's name in a beige bar e.g. Charles Dickens' books. Just underneath that bar it has a line that says
"Average rating: 3.79 · 1,289,543 ratings · 36,753 reviews · 835 distinct works · Similar authors"
Click on the "similar authors" link, and voila!!

Hope that helps...

Besides, does anyone else keep track of how many reviews they've written?? How do these people know whether GR has deleted one of their reviews or not? I don't normally even go back to my reviews unless I can't remember a book and am trying to jog my memory!

Okay, it's official I'm a twit. LOL. I found average rating, reviews and ratings, Kathryn, but can't find similar authors. Is that something I was supposed to have put into the profile?

message 9375: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments No, of course you aren't a twit, Dale!! I don't think it's something that you need to enter into your profile as an author, but I'm not sure why similar authors isn't showing up for you... I just looked at your profile and I can see similar authors for you, but interestingly when I click the link, nothing happens.

Do you think this is another one of those things where authors see different things on people's pages to what the general public can see...?

message 9376: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Where you are seeing average reviews, ratings etc isn't under the profile pic, is it? Because that isn't where the similar authors link is - it's under the author's books heading.

Michele Not sure if this is the correct place to put this but I thought it might interest some of our members. I have just signed up for this course through Coursera - for those of you not familiar with Coursera they offer free online courses in various topics - I have completed a number of courses and highly recommend them. Anyway for anyone interested in historical fiction:

Maybe peek over the fence, we had next door's puppy whining and crying for a few hours, looked over the fence and he'd gotten stuck in a cane chair, half through it. Scared itself to death.

If it were mine I would be keeping it inside. We did that with both our boxers and had minimal separation anxiety.

@Vicki I presume they were but they weren't doing anything! I wanted to go grab the little thing myself and bring it home:)

Janis Hill (janishill) Hi everyone, I've been absent due to a new full time job and juggling it with the existing full time job of being a mum and keeper of a house. So I feel I've been left on the sandbank as the groups I'm in have swept on without me.

Feeling I couldn't keep up I decided to just jump back in in a safe spot so saying HI! here. :-)

There, I talked about anything... but don't discuss politics and don't have a dog.

AM making damper for our special Sunday family breakfast and having it with lemon curd a frien made. NOM!

Okay, hi, bye! :-)
