So, so much I want to say about Abbott as PM but I'll hold my tongue.

It's okay I'm on it, he's a homophobic, racist, sexist, bigoted ass, and the country as a whole should be ashamed that they have let this happen.

I'd suggest anything by Brandon Sanderson or Terry Pratchett and maybe Ian Irvine as well, although he does tend to put his characters through lots of trials and tribulations :)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) The universe does not want me to have a phone.

Got my first phone earlier this year (I'm 22), worked fine for a couple of months, then died. Had it replaced by warranty, got it back a week or so ago, today I dropped the replacement into the toilet. Damn these shallow pockets.

Did you dry it straight away Liam? I did the same with mine (same problem) and pulled it to bits, battery, sim etc put it in the sun to dry. It was fine...I've heard a hair dryer will work wonders too. But they eventually die, just not straight away (if you're lucky!)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) :P I have a Lumia 920, it's pretty much just a solid hunk of phone. Can't open it up, and the touch screen is already borked.

Yeah it sucks the moisture out I believe. I'm at work unfortunately and haven't got any rice handy

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) It's such a tough phone too, I've dropped it a thousand times (the replacement) and no scratches or glitches whatsoever. Water must be its kryptonite.

Thoughts are with the residents of Winmalee in the Blue Mountains, plus the residents in the affected areas of Sydney (Marsden Park, Castlereagh, Windsor) and north of Sydney in NSW - Wyee, Cessnock....over 60 bushfires raging out of control with the 32 degree temperatures and fierce winds. 2 homes lost plus 7 firefighters injured. Temperatures have dropped and wind is dying, so hopefully the fires will be brought under control soon. A shocking start to the bushfire season, and only a few days into spring!

It has been an extraordinary day for so early in September. I hope it doesn't auger badly for summer....

message 9280: by Leonie (new)

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3569 comments I was talking about this very thing this morning as we climbed the hill on the common... A high fuel load, a dry winter, and unseasonably hot weather combined with nasty winds. A fire fighter's nightmare. Let's hope we get some good rain to settle things down a bit over the next month or so.

message 9284: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I certainly hear you, Bette, however a phone (especially some of these smartphones!) is an expensive item. I feel like if it CAN be made to work again, then using it is the better option. Maybe Liam could invest in a bottle of hospital-quality disinfectant and give it a thorough wipe over - several times!! And try to put the phone's history out of his mind...!

Did you try the rice when u got home, Liam? I've heard that before for submerged phones but have always been a bit sceptical...

I had a very nice lunch at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney - lamb followed by chocolate pudding and icecream washed down with champagne followed by Kathy Reichs talking about her career and her books. It was worth getting soaked on the way there when my umbrella died.

Oh isn't Kathy Reichs a wonderful speaker? I saw her one year at the Harrogate Crime Festival. Very business-like and informative.
