Thanks Mish,
I checked my e-mail set up for GD and I am wondering if it was my fault - I had it on digest monthly instead of daily, so I'll see how it goes. I change things when I travel so as not to get too many e-mails when I am away. Recently I was away a month and had 2000 e-mails waiting for me on this computer, even though I'd read many on my iPad and deleted them from the Bigpond e-mail site. I give up trying to understand a lot of this techo - all it has to do is work when I want it to :-o)

Goodness me 2000 emails, no you don't want that to happen again.

Yes, change it and see how it goes, but if you don't have any success, email support@goodreads.com

message 9057: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Never mind, Ashleigh - I know things like that make you feel bad, but you're right - we ARE all entitled to our own opinions. Maybe some people feel so insecure that they need to have their views validated by others to feel better about themselves. And maybe don't bother with that thread anymore!

message 9058: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Which book was it, by the way?

message 9059: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments And it sounds like you enjoyed it while the others didn't? I haven't read any of them so can't enter into discussion about it with you!!

message 9060: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I just had a look at some of the reviews - it looks like a pretty divisive read with the majority of readers giving it either 1 star or 5 stars! I guess when you are that passionate about loving or hating something, those passions can erupt into personal attacks. Especially on the internet where we're somewhat hidden behind our screen.

I suspect a lot of people who post strident attacks online would think twice about saying the same thing to a person face to face...

But it's true that there are really only so many basic storylines that you can use - isn't it amazing that some authors can make something that blows you away with their take on a plot while others leave you yawning because they've just followed a formula almost word for word?!!

I just ignore them when I see them...I've found that's best because if you add a comment, you'll get abused too!

The Mortal Instruments series is like Twilight or Fifty Shades - when something gets too popular people just have to bash it. Ignore them and enjoy what you like!!!
p.s. Are you going to go see the movie?

I saw the trailer at the cinema on Saturday. I wasn't sure about it - no one looked quite how I had imagined them!

I'm a bit of a cinemaholic so I will probably go and see it! Went to see Elysium on Saturday. It was a tad violent. In fact so gruesome that it became funny.

I have to go see the gory ones to keep my husband happy so he will come with me to the ones I like! I owe him big time for Twilight and The Hunger Games.

message 9067: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Thanks for your good wishes. The surgeon finally let me go home last night. Good to be home. Surgery went well; removed a 2cm cyst. Cyst was benign this time round which is good because I don't have a good track record with cysts etc. I'm happy! Have to have a bandage over my eye for another week. I've got a good shiner happening atm. Not a good look.

I've wrested control of my GR account back from my niece who came to stay here while I was in hospital. She's been uploading books from boxes in the garage. And I see she's changed my profile picture. She's loved it because she could be on GR while the baby slept or got up early etc. But this is the real Bette now!

Excellent news about the benign nature of the cyst. Hope you're feeling amazingly better, Bette!

I am a little upset that Death is not narrating it.

But I love Geoffrey Rush with all my heart so I will probably end up seeing it.

Singing in the rain reminded me.

Has anyone else gone to see King Kong the musical?

If your thinking about it, DO IT!

It was seriously that amazing. I loved it!

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) My boss is a huge King Kong fanboy, so he's fairly devastated that he doesn't get to see it.

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments I'd love to see King Kong on stage. That was actually the first film I ever saw at the cinema [the 79 version]. My big sister and best friend in the whole world, Cynthia, took me to see it and I cried my heart out at the end - so much I think poor Cynthia was a bit embarrassed. I know I got embarrassed many years later when I took J, Cynthia's eldest, to see her first movie, E.T., and she sobbed her heart out when E.T. 'died' - I felt like the whole cinema was watching us lol..... Good times though :)
