I'm sure every child and parent are the same! I remember my son's first day at school...he's 32 now...and he was screaming, and when the teacher picked him up, he stiffened like a board. She waved me to go, I sat in the car and cried my eyes out, rang my husband sobbing!!! The teacher told me he was fine as soon as I had gone!!

When my son was to start school, he could not go because he got chicken pox, so he was crying, I was crying, then my girlfriends (my son's best mate) was crying, and my friend was crying. My husband said in 10 years time you will all have a good laugh at this! We did not think it was funny at the time, however, now the boys are in year 10 and 15 yrs old, we laugh now. We thought it was the worst things that could happen, wrong a lot more has happended throughout this time and now we are still friends and we have a good laugh at this often.

A boy after my own heart Li :) Recess was my favourite part of school too ;) So glad he had a good day Li and I hope it wasn't overly stressful for you.

Li, it gets easier, do you know I think the main things is that as they go through school, if they can tell you what is bothering them large or small, you will be able to work it out. Hope he was happy with recess? How gorgeous, you know you only worry because of the love you have for him.

Ah, that is good. I think we worry much more than they do.

Li, I work where my children now attend secondary college, however, today is my day off. I am being a worry wart because I am not there today. My son had a diabetic seizure yesterday, but he is fine and was checked by his medical team.My tough guy got up this morning said "I am going to school today Mum". So today I am trying to keep busy around the house. I know he is in good hands and he is very capable and responsible. But it is a Mum things to worry.

A wise friend also said to me (about parenting in general) "It doesn't get better, it just gets different." I can agree with that - you have ups and downs, and great times and difficult times, but you just keep on loving them, more and more, every year.
An interesting article from author Stephen King regarding gun laws in the US, and his association to one of his earlier books, Rage . He even mentions our previous gun statistics, the then and now....

I suspect many in the US struggle to conceive of a culture (ours) where we don't anticipate that every stranger is potentially armed and dangerous. I was walking with friends a few weeks ago discussing this very topic, and trying to get my head around the idea of "needing" to carry a concealed gun to "protect" us while we pounded the pavements - which is really what a concealed carry permit is all about.
Bizarre...
I am reminded every time we hear about the Port Arthur massacre, that our government of the time did a really good thing. It doesn't matter what your party politics are, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say it was a bad thing.

Well put, and totally agree with all you say Leonie.

I've decided to take this weekend off and Robbie and I are taking a quick side trip to the Sunshine Coast. Just to relax and unwind from all the recent stress. Looking forward to it - we're leaving first thing in the morning.
Good on you Tracey! Wonderful place, the Sunshine Coast:) Where will you stay? We stayed at Caloundra for a week last year, and it was our first visit. I'd love to go back!
Yea soundwave is like big day out, but catered more to the punk and hardcore genres
its on the 1st of march, thought I wasn't going to be able to go, but they released extra tickets last night :)
I basically spent all last night screaming with my room mate in excitement...other room mate was not to happy with us haha

Time certainly goes fast Faye! It's scary...good luck with her last year at school. I hope you have a lovely day together tomorrow for her birthday:)

Happy Birthday to your baby girl, Faye. I know how you feel. Really the years seem to go by in a blink of an eye. I have an almost 21 yr old son and 18 yr old daughter and an 8 yr old. I keep telling my 8 yr old that he's not allowed to grow up!!!

I'm sure you'll have a fab time at soundwave Melanie, it sounds like something that would've definitely appealed to me about ten years ago - nowadays I'm just a cranky old woman ;)
Robbie and I had a wonderful time. We stayed at Ocean Breeze which is right on the beach and has a wonderful Italian restaurant right downstairs. I didn't want to leave this morning lol. Still, I have to be grateful for my hubby's near perfect sense of timing - he always knows when I need a bit of a break and always seems to come up with the most wonderful little breaks. Now though it's back to work.
Have a great week everyone and happy birthday to your baby Faye :)

I don't really remember myself Li but apparently my first day of school I was so excited and couldn't wait for Mum to leave - she told me that she cried all the way home but apart from a couple of moments I don't remember that first day as being that stressful. I know I did cry at one stage but I also remember the teacher had a huge jar of jelly beans so that made everything all right again. Try and have a good day and not worry too much - his teacher's probably got jelly beans too :)
