It certainly seems that it's not possible in the summer to have a happy medium:( I remember returning from holidays last year, and just keeping ahead of the flooding. If we'd travelled home the following day, we wouldn't have made it through! That was coming from Coff's Harbour!

Thanks Dale. It will be tempting to buy books, especially as there is a Dymock's right across from where I'll be working and an All books 4 less, in the centre as well!!! I'll just have to weigh up my priorities I think. Books or Bills...Mmmm I think I know which I'd rather.

Thanks Brenda. Started last Friday and back again on Wednesday...still learning the ropes. I will have to be careful not to be tempted...they have some gorgeous stuff. I actually shop from there so it'll be even more tempting now. Hubby has long service leave next year and we're planning a European holiday with all 3 kids so I'll have to save for that!!!

Elaine, congratulations, it took me over nine years to go back to work after I had my babies. You will be fine. My kids are now 15 and 17 so this summer I was offered a job in retail where I used to work. I work at a school normally (so have 5 weeks off). I decided to go back to retail....my old boss could not believe that I had everything under control within half a day. I am going back next school holidays. Have fun, you will be fine.Think of how you can now afford the little extra's or get in front with the bills.
Enjoy!

No Brenda I hadn't realised you'd finished the book - I'm almost nervous to ask if you enjoyed it?
I'm in Sth East QLD, just south of Brisband, and we're getting LOADS of rain and high winds... I'm actually wearing a light robe of a night which is bizarre after our super hot days.
Although that could also be connected to my stupid anaemia that seems to have returned. My red blood cells have plummeted and once again I have no discernible iron in my blood. The last time this happened I ended up having to have a bone marrow transplant - not fun - and I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that again.
I'm supposed to go back to Uni soon for the next semester of my Masters but with everything else on my plate and now not feeling well I'm not sure I'll make it - at least I've got Robbie to look after me :)

I am *extremely* sorry to hear about your anemia, Tracey. You probably already know all the possible causes of erythropoenia, but I'm wondering (just a stab in the dark): have you had your B-12 levels checked? (To be clear, I am not a physician and am not offering medical advice, but I know this is sometimes an overlooked causal factor.)

Michael I'm so used to controlling the money that I could never hand over anything to hubby!!! But maybe it's not such a bad idea.
Tracey, thank you and I'm sorry to hear you are not well. I hope that it won't be as drastic as last time. Wow...what are you doing your Masters in?
@ Tracey...yes I did;) Review done...anxious to get to the next one:)

They didn't do a specific check the last time this happened Mark but on the advice of a friend I asked them to check my B-12 levels and found that they too have dropped drastically as have certain electrolytes. It's very frustrating not just because it leaves me feeling so tired and weak but because they can't seem to figure out a cause. We honestly thought last time we had fixed the problem forever with the bone marrow transplant but here we are less than 2 years later and it's back.
And thanks Brenda and Elaine for your kind thoughts - I try to stay positive but I'll admit to having my bad days - like today :)

That's what this thread is for, to vent Tracey!!

The weather here in Sydney has been mixed over the weekend: yesterday, hot, humid and fine: today, cooler and wet. The heat takes it out of me:) and lots of my friends, too.
I do hope your problem is easily fixed, Tracey. It's hard, if not impossible, to function well if you're feeling tired and sick.

Hope your iron levels elevate Tracey - without the need for more bone marrow...

Tracey, that sounds awful... Life can have enough challenges, without having to deal with recurring ill health! Hope your doctors are able to find some answers (and cures - or at least ways to allow you to cope) soon.
The rain and wind has stopped here in Brisbane, and we didn't lose power, Michael. It's now sunny - and heating up again...! There's a river flooded near us, but we don't flood, and I don't think it would be affecting too many homes, if any.
Thinking of everyone still to have this rain depression move through, and the after-effects - hope your home is still free of water, Brenda. Also thinking of everyone still battling fires/at severe risk of bushfire.
My husband just tipped 100ml out of our rain gauge, which is since Friday afternoon when it started. But it's also filled up quickly since last night too...4 inches in the old scale is totally amazing...but of course nowhere near what Queensland and even Coffs Harbour and surrounding areas are getting...
My brother lives in Ipswich, fortunately on high ground, but they have just had an emergency situation declared in Ipswich:(

And it's amazing to see the footage of people playing/walking through flood waters even when all the authorities and media coverage are saying how stupid it is to do this for a number of reasons - drains, snakes, sewage, currents...

I know, it makes me angry because the police can't spare the resources to control idiots who take risks....where is their common sense? And when it's kids playing in the foam and at the edge of the ocean...where are their parents? They put the rescuers lives at risk as well!!

Definitely...bring on Autumn!

So much rain and the worst of it hasn't even reached us yet. I can see us flooding tonight. Last time we had weather like this I had the SES sandbagging us at midnight and we still flooded!

Good advice! All the frightening reports....and so much damage....

Hope you're ok Phrynne! I just discovered our back patio is leaking in a few places, and tried to work out where to put our little dog's bed so she doesn't get wet! The weather will get worse overnight, and the wind has just started to pick up!

That was very sad:(
That was very sad:(

Being an ex-SES member (during our time in the remote northwest of WA) I can reiterate that it is essential that people take the warnings seriously and avoid doing silly things - like driving through water for fun. Resources become stretched as it is, and rescuing people who deliberately put themselves in harms way for the sake of "kicks" is frustrating when there is already so much to do.
Stay safe people!
Still dry so far. Going to bed early now in case we have to get up in the night to deal with a flood!

Well! So far it's a non event for us. Only a quarter of the rain they predicted and very little wind. Not complaining though. We are warm and dry and we had a good night's sleep.
The whole system ended up going out to sea, so that's a huge relief! Glad you were safe Phrynne...it's still Queensland and northern NSW who are in trouble though:(

Will you be ok Brenda? I was watching the Sunrise program this morning and they showed footage of Newcastle. It looked pretty wild.

Thanks Elaine, yes we are ok...some leaking in places which we will get looked at when everything settles down, but definitely so much better than a lot of people. Our seas are about 6 metres, so they would be spectacular, and there was some flash flooding in areas in the city, but we are fine where we are...

That's good to know. It is awful. A friend and her husband have relatives scattered across most of Qld and she was saying only a week or so ago they were calling her to see how she was going here in Victoria with the fires and now she's calling them to see how they are. I know some of you have already said it but it is one extreme to the other.
I was just talking to someone on the phone who visited her boyfriend in the desert on the weekend, and her and a friend from Q'ld were comparing photos back and forth, with the desert and floods...so contrasting!
School starts tomorrow for me! I'm not really that excited but it is a different school...

It's unbelievable isn't it...literally one extreme to another. Hope you'll be ok Brenda. We were on the Gold Coast this time last year and they got the King tides and parts of the Gold Coast flooded. They even closed off the theme parks due to flooding. I was absolutely terrified, not having experienced anything like that before.
