I joined Goodreads to find books and authors that I otherwise would have never known. After hearing about this group on Tech News Today, I wanted to join as a better way to not only find new books and authors but to discuss them in a friendly environment.
Hello Marty, welcome to the S&L group.

My name is TR Goodman, and I've been reading, mostly science fiction and fantasy, for as long as I can remember. I discovered the podcast through the video version on Geek and Sundry, and now I'm going through back episodes featuring favorite books and authors.
Some of my favorite authors are JRR Tolkien, George RR Martin, Timothy Zahn, Terry Pratchett, and James Clavell.
I hope to get to know many of you better as we share and discuss great and not-so-great books. ;)
Hi Gabriel and T.R.,welcome to the S&L group.

I'm William reader of both sword and laser. My favorite is Zelazny's Lord of Light. As I'm incapable of getting rid of books I'm glad to have an e-reader as they take up so much less room."
Hey, at last, a Lord of Light reference! One of the books I go back to to remember what SF can do...

Some of my favourite authors are Terry Pratchett, John Wyndham, Kim Newman and Patricia A. McKillip.
I'm looking forward to finding more authors. This podcast/bookclub has already introduced me to John Scalzi and Kim Stanley Robinson, so thanks for that.

Hello Zoe and Fred, welcome to the S&L group.

you may call me Draco. Its a taken name to live in anonymity of the Web. I am living in Berlin (Germany) so pardon me if my English isn't that good.
I am a Fantasy and SF reader with occational dab into Paranomal Romance, crime and other genre. Some of my favorite Authors are Jim Butcher, Wolfgang Hohlbein, Charlaine Harris, George R.R. Martin, Frank Schätzing, Ron Marz and Gail Carriger.
I came to attention of this bookclub throu Geek and Sundry (I am a big fan of Felicia Day) but only started reading the Bookpicks with Wool (a great book) and am now reading Among Others (I find this book kinda odd and can not make up my mind if I like it or not). I joined the Club to read something new every once in a while ;)
Hello Joshua,Maike and Dracul welcome to the S&L group.

My name is Greg and I have finally clicked the 'Join Group' button in this group! I listen off and on to the Sword and Laser podcast, but have to confess, it cuts into my book time :-), since I am a heavy audiobook listener due to 2+ hour commutes daily.
I am looking for a new book to read and so I thought now is the time to jump into this forum, start reading the next book on your list and join in the discussion!
I have been a reader all my life and have stayed primarily in the Sword and Laser genre. Even thought my book 'list' only shows 65 books, it is only because I haven't taken the time go all the way back through the years to import all of the books that I have read. I like so many different authors it's hard to recount them all in this post, but some of my favorites are J.R.R. Tolkien, Frank Herbert, Robert Jordan, etc.
I look forward to joining in the discussions!
Hello Greg, welcome to the S&L group.

My name is yvonne from munich. I have been reading fantasy and science fiction since being able to read. My mother is a big fantasy fan and so i was introduced to terry brooks, david eddings ect. Quite early in life.
I have watched all the sword and laser-videos and started listening to the podcast. Without the show i would not have picked up for example the mistborn-books, which i loved or "downbelow station" which i absolutly enjoyed.
So i am hoping to get some more great book suggestions here. :)

I'm Owen. My background is in physics, engineering, and history. If it wasn’t for Sci-Fi and fantasy, I might not have started reading at all. I’ve been writing fiction since my early teens, and on technical subjects professionally since my 20’s, but I’ve only recently published any of my fiction. My first novel was published last month.
I’m looking forward to some fun and enlightening interactions here.
Hello Ivi_kiwi and Owen, welcome to the S&L group.

I've been lurking for a while, and am finally introducing myself~
I'm Anthea, and I'm an avid fantasy and SF reader, a somewhat avid MMO player, a writer, happily married to a gamer/artist/attorney husband, mom of one, and an Irish fiddler. Not always in that order. :)
I'll gladly read whatever's on the list, and enjoy (well maybe not enjoy, exactly) being pushed to read outside my comfort zone.

I really like Fantasy books - specifically those similar to the ones set in the Forgotten Realms. The Drizzt series, the Dragon Lance books, Feist's Riftwar Saga are all the books I grew up with - and the books I can talk about with others quite readily.
Anyway, I won't be so crass as to post about my own stuff just yet, but hopefully you'll see me posting around here in the future.
Hello Anthea and Val,welcome to the S&L group.

I've recently gotten back into reading after a long stint being too involved in video games. I used to work in a bookstore and read a quite bit back then (not as much as one might think given my occupation). I was looking for some recommendations for new reads. I'm a longtime Frogpanter and always heard about the S&L podcast... Didn't realize you guys had a book group too... So here I am!
Don't have many folks to talk about books and general nerdery so... You may be hearing a lot from me. Gonna dive right into this months book club book. If anyone has any tips or suggestions on how to get the most out of the Sword and Laser experience... Please feel free to drop me a line.
And I hear there is a battle between Swords and Lasers... I may like both sides... But in my heart I'm on the Sword side.
Favorite Fantasy series ever is the Darksword Trilogy my Weis and Hickman. Current favorite author is Brandon Sanderson... Although I have yet to read his finishing of the Wheel of Time.
Enough rambling... I've got a book to read! :-)
Voldare aka Eric

I'm Amy. Just started listening to the S&L podcast, though I have seen a lot of the YouTube eps as well. I jumped on to see the book for this month- Veronica's mention that the audible version was great got me as I've just started doing that (I have so not enough time for paper books these days!).
Anyhoo, I've got audible up and going with my free download and a few more on my wishlist. I'm definitely a sword reader but willing to broaden my range into SF. So, um.. Hi!
Hello Eric and Amy,welcome to the S&L group.

Hello Tim,welcome to the S&L group.
Hello Ben and Alicia welcome to the S&L group.

Hello Adam, welcome to the S&L group.

It's because of my love for scifi and romance that I wrote and published MINDSPEAK, my first published novel in the scifi romance genre. MINDSPEAK deals with many of the same science and concepts that were introduced in Orphan Black.

I'm giving away five signed copies in a Goodreads Giveaway that starts Monday! I hope some of you will consider entering!!
In the meantime, I'm excited to bounce around this group to see the many interests we have in common. Heather Sunseri

Be sure to check out Veronica's other book club Vaginal Fantasy, where they discuss SFF romance.

I will. Love the name. :)
Hello Heather, welcome to the S&L group.
P.S.I'm a big fan of Orphan Black, which makes me doubly glad your in the group.

I'm probably more of a sword than a laser, old because The books I want to read next are the GOT and LOTR books. I've only read The Hobbit after I saw the 3 LOTR films. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I've only read Darth Plagueis. The only other books I've read are Jaws and Steve Altens MEG books back High School.
I'm hoping to get a few good suggestions of what to read next.

Hello Adam,D.J.and Leslie,welcome to the S&L group.

Hello Anthony, welcome to the S&L group.

I read SF/Fantasy very heavily in the 90s, lost track for awhile, and started getting back into it in the past few years.
My favorite authors are Connie Willis, Lois McMaster Bujold (bummed I missed the chance to submit questions for the interview), Terry Pratchett, Sanderson, and Rothfuss. Recent stuff I've really enjoyed are "The Rook" and "Night Circus".
Just read "Among Others" and I'm really happy to have found this group!
Hello Tom and Roger, welcome to the S&L group.

Oh and in case you're interested, my book in a nutshell:
All Jet wanted was a Gift, certainly not the responsibility that would come with it—the prophesized powers that would hurl him against Hell’s invasion.
In a world where everyone is given special powers by their LORD, there was one among them that wasn’t: Jet Burner. Believed to be shunned by their God, he certainly wouldn’t have banked on anything worthwhile from his life.
He was sadly mistaken. For it was his destiny to discover this Gift that would save the world he knows, but once his true nature and his planet’s hidden past are revealed, so too are instincts better left buried.
Now Jet must restrain his newfound bloodlust and walk the path towards the Apocalypse.

Hello Jimmy, welcome to the S&L group. You have a great list.
Hey Josh, welcome to the S&L group.

Hi Mike, welcome to the S&L group.

My first novel was just published, after 19 years of work :P The story of all the agents, submissions, near-misses etc. might be more epic than the novel!
I'm mostly a vintage SF fan, my favorite periods being the early stuff, late 19th C., the 30's, and 1965-1985, roughly. My favorite sf author is probably Frank Herbert.
As far as fantasy goes, I lean toward things like the Oz books, Yellow Submarine, The Neverending Story (the novel not the movie) etc. more than "traditional epic fantasy" although I love a lot of that too (Moorcock, Tolkien, Jordan). But I get most of my fantasy fix from actual folklore & mythology.
Anyway, nice you join you all, looking forward to the discussions!
