The Sword and Laser discussion
Introduction and welcome thread!

I like fantasy and Sci-fi although I haven't discovered a lot of Sci-fi I like. I really like Urban fantasy like the Dresden files and Odd Thomas. Epic Hero stories are the best sota like comicbooks. I've wanted to join a book club for a while. Glad to be here.

Hi Christopher,Pavel,Sol and Eddie welcome to the S&L group.

Hi Neil, welcome to the S&L group.

Did you say 'hello'?
No, I said 'ello!
My name is Ryan Pierce. I discovered Sword and Laser through Geek and Sundry, and have been listening to the podcasts for a couple of months now. Unfortunately, I'm perpetually behind, because I'm a slow reader, lol.
I bought WOOL for discussion, but I was stuck halfway through Reamde and have only just now gotten to it. I like it! I'll try to have it done by the end of the month so that I can better participate in next months discussions, although I have to say, listening to the podcast has given me quite the backlog.
I'm a student studying visual effects and motion graphics at the Art Institute of Houston, and looking to graduate soon. I also enjoy writing.
My favorite writers are Neil Gaiman and Stephen King. When it comes to the classics, I'm quite fond of Charles Dickens (even though I can't seem to find the time to finish any of his books) and Mark Twain. I'm also fond of Lovecraft and Howard (more for their ideas than their actual writing, though).
This is getting kind of long, so let me close by saying I look forward to discussing books with all of you, and maybe even getting involved in (constructive) debate. See you around!
Hi Ryan, welcome to the S&L group.

My name is Teri and I'm new to Sword & Laser. I found the podcast by listening to Tom on the Morning Stream with Scott Johnson.
I like to read mostly Fantasy but am open to some good Science Fiction. My favorite authors are Terry Goodkind, Terry Brooks & Stephen R Donaldson. My all time favorite book is "Lord Fouls Bane". I just love it!
Hi Janis and Teri welcome to the S&L group.

I have listened to S&L podcasts for over 6 months and lately started reading this forum. Its a great bunch.

Currently reading Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings.

Yeah,I wasn't sure.But now I feel stupid...anyways Hi!

I don't remember anymore if I have introduced myself or not, but I am fairly sure I haven't, since I am mostly a lurker... xD
I did however post in another thread, so I thought that I should probably introduce myself, finally :)
I am mostly a part of this group and the VagFan group, to read the discussions, and to get inspired... :)
I have trouble concentrating, so sadly I don't read all that much, but I do love audiobooks, and ebooks and paperbooks, and notebooks and ALL books! :D (although, not so much my old schoolbooks though xD )
Oooh, also, I am from Denmark, originally from a small town, called Middelfart :P (I live in Copenhagen now, but usually my origins gets a giggle out of most folk xD )
Anyways.. Haaiiiii! ^____^
Hi ClarissaEmia, welcome to the S&L group.

I read mostly science fiction, and mostly in english (although I am a dane. I don't think there is any danish sci-fi that's not YA.). My favorite authors right now are Neal Stephenson and Greg Egan.
I hope joining this group will expand my horizons a bit.
Hi Aurvandil, welcome to the S&L group.

my name is Joe - I am an avid reader across many different genres.
I don't read much sci fi... not really into the techie aspects...
that said, I do love the Adventures of The Stainless Steel Rat, Deathworld, Ender's Game, and Callahan's Crosstime Saloon.
My favorite genre is fantasy, but really haven't been able to find too many authors that really pull me in. Classics like Tolkien were great, the first couple Robert Jordan books were great, Wizard's First Rule was fun.
I like good adventure stories of any genre, including Winterdance, Seabiscuit, and recently I have been getting hooked on YA because that seems to be where the most exciting and innovative writing is happening (Hunger Games, Divergent, etc.)
Feel free to stop by and check out my booklist or drop me a friend request, I am fairly new to the Goodread's neighborhood.

Hi Zeke, welcome to the S&L group.

It's been out for a few weeks now, from Amazon, nook, Kobo, ibooks and has gained some good reviews. Please take a look and for information, later today I'm haveing a one day flash sale at $0.99.
I've been on Goodreads for a few weeks too, and it's taking me some time getting around all the boards and groups and gizmos. It looks like a lot of fun.

Hi Rob,welcome to the S&L group.

As a teenager, I was drawn to sprawling epics (George R.R. Martin, Robert Jordan, Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy) as well as classics such as Dune and Lord of the Rings. Recently, I've been on a young adult series (Hunger Games, Edge Chronicles) and supernatural kick (Lovecraft) as well as obsessed with zombies (much to my chagrin).
This is the first group I've joined!

I tend to read mostly fantasy though I do enjoy science fiction as well. For whatever reason my science fiction tends to be more visual while my fantasy is more written. I suppose I could mention I'm "one of the aspiring authors in the audience" however I can't consider myself an author until I finish something so I'm still in the aspiring stage.
A few of my favorite authors are Jim Butcher, Anne McCaffrey, Ed Greenwood, Orson Scott Card, Robert Jordan, and David Eddings.

Long time fan of sci-fi and fantasy stories. Especially, the action-adventure type stuff. A few quick names from my book shelf: he team of Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir, David Gemmell, and Karen Traviss. At this point in time reading Girl Genius vol 10.

I'm not actually. I'm just showing my support for them.
Hi Ryan, welcome to the S&L group.

Been catching up on S&L from the beginning recently. I know that some of the episodes are "old," but I prefer to start from the start and work from there. It has helped to give me some suggestions of other books to read, so that is also a win for me. Just looking to introduce myself for now and watch some of the conversations and possibly join in some later on.

Seriously, my wife finds it funny that I can read a new Tom Clancy novel in about 3 hours time and give her a play by play of the plot.
Besides Clancy, I will read mostly anything that I can get my hands on. I prefer techno-thrillers, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, mystery, military fiction, and the occasional romance novel that my wife picks up so I can keep up with what she is reading ;)
