William Stacey (williamstacey) Hello everyone,
I'm William. I'm into all sorts of books, but have always had a fond spot in my heart for fantasy (it's something about the swords, I guess).

I've already read some wonderful books I only heard about on the Sword and Laser You Tube channel, so I hope this group can point me towards some great reading.

Looking forward to the chat.

message 3009: by Jeffrey N. (new)

Jeffrey N. Baker Hello,

My name is Jeff Baker. I'm a Sci-Fi/Fantasy author and came across S&L when they were asking for submissions to their anthology. I so happened to have something I thought they'd enjoy and sent it in. While waiting for a response I stuck around and enjoyed what I saw.

Skip ahead a few months and I got accepted and also discovered they had a Goodreads page. I hope to exchange book recommendations with everyone. My favorite author and inspiration at the moment is Jim Butcher with Patrick Rothfusse a close second.

If anyone wishes to connect through any other form of social media, send me a message and I'll let you know how to contact me!

No worries, all is forgiven.
On a side note, when someone above mentioned "Charlton the greeter," it sort of reminded me of "Carlton your Doorman."

No offense intended by that, BTW. :)

message 3015: by [deleted user] (new)

@Linn,no problem,I actually get that comparison quite a bit:)

message 3016: by Joe (new)

Joe Donahue | 2 comments Hello, my name is Joe Donahue. I just signed up for goodreads. I love to write, but I probably don't read as often as I should. I hope to change that in the near future but I usually don't have much time to read. I own and brew for a very small brewery that I'm currently in the process of trying to find a new home for. I work a day job as a computer programmer during the week. Obviously between those two things I don't have much spare time. I also have a wife and nearly two year old daughter with another kid on the way. I'm beginning the journey into becoming a self published author. I'm half way done with the third revision of my current work in progress novel and hope to be publishing it within the next several weeks. Finding different ways to market my book is the primary reason I joined Goodreads. I plan on joining the Authors Program, but I also like getting no involved with groups like this and seeing what they think of my writing as well as the writing of others so that I can find ways to improve. I look forward to becoming involved in your group.

Hi Joe,welcome to the S&L group.
And welcome to goodreads as well.

message 3018: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy | 1 comments Hello, Jeremy here.
I have been reading S&L (genres) since.... well I've been reading Tolkien and Asimov since before middle earth..I mean school.
As to S&L the podcast, I've been a fan of Tom and Veronica's since BOL. (I am the Jeremy of Palm fandom, see caller voicemails from February and March of 2008.)
So, Hi!

message 3020: by Chris (new)

Chris (escapistreads) Hi folks! I'm Chris.

Long time reader of SF/Fantasy and I'm excited to find a group of folks who enjoy it as much as I do. :-)

I originally got in to the genre way back when I found a copy of Dragons of Autumn Twilight. It's been nothing but good times since then!

Current favorite authors are Scott Lynch, Stina Leicht, Jeff Somers and James S.A. Corey.

Anyway, it's good to be here! :-)

message 3022: by Belle (new)

Belle (grimmira) Hi all. I'm Brandi.

I've been reading Sci-Fi/Fantasy pretty much forever. Much of my childhood was spent with my face in a book, usually Sci-Fi/Fantasy or Horror. Now I'm a mom raising my own little bookworm geeklings.

I found S&L through Geek & Sundry & joined Goodreads so I could join. Anyway, glad to be here.

message 3023: by Robert (new)

Robert | 7 comments Brandi,
That is exactly how I found S&L too. I was on Goodreads, but this is the only group I've joined.

message 3024: by Ouranosaurus (new)

Ouranosaurus | 3 comments Hello, I'm Ouranosaurus, and I read. A lot. Mostly SF and fantasy.

message 3025: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Brandi and Ouranosaurus, welcome to the S&L group.

message 3026: by Emily (new)

Emily Hi! I'm Emily. A coworker recommended that I read The Curse of Chalion, and then slyly mentioned that this group was currently reading it - so it jumped to the top of my list.

Fantasy has always been my favorite genre, but I've graduated from Patricia Wrede and Susan Fletcher to more adult-centered books lately. I'm excited to be here!

message 3027: by Krista (new)

Krista | 1 comments Hi! I am Krista and have come back to fantasy in the last few years so I am incredibly behind in my knowledge of new to me authors. Thought this would be a good way to get some intel.

Glad to be here!

message 3028: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Emily and Krista, welcome to the S&L group.

message 3029: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Davidson (wulfalpha) | 10 comments Hi, my name is Andrew. I am an aspiring writer and I love both genres. in my humble opinion when asked to choose between sword and laser I ask "Is it too much to ask for both?" I love Heinlein, Asimov, and Niven, but at the same time I love Tolkien, Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson, and many others.

message 3030: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Andrew, welcome to the S&L group.

Aimmeigh (aessedai21) | 1 comments Hi. My name is Amy.

I usually read Stephen King or Sue Grafton, I don't think I've read any sci-fi. I have read Robert Jordan and a few JD Robb.

Honestly, I found this page because I've been watching vaginal fantasy, and Veronica's hot.

I loved Jordan. He is my fave. If you decide to read him let me know. I've been wanting to do a reread since the series is completed. PM me.

- David Eddings
- Robin Hobb
- R.A. Salvatore
- Margaret Weis
- J.R.R. Tolkien
- Robert Jordan

Recent favorite authors;

Probably there would be more authors if I've a chance to read...

message 3040: by Casey (new)

Casey Caracciolo | 5 comments Hello all, my name is Casey Caracciolo. I am a lover of all things Sword and/or Laser. I am an author and have recently published my first book, which is both Sword and Laser actually. I read almost primarily this as well. I was late to the Arena, but I just finished The Hunger Games trilogy and have just recently started on Sabriel by Garth Nix. Huge Tolkien fan, and love Stroud, anything magic really. I'm a Potter fan as well as a Douglas Adams person. I would say my first series read was The Chronicles of Prydain, a long time ago. Two of my friends and I wrote a sequel and sent it to Lloyd Alexander and he wrote us back, and I just remember feeling incredible. Anyway, I look forward to participating as much as time permits.

message 3041: by Kris (new)

Kris | 3 comments Hi all,
My name Is Kris. I'm 33yrs old and living in Columbus, Ohio. I've been an avid SciFi/Fantasy fan ever since my older sis got me Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings for Christmas when I was 11. Since then I'm always looking for the next new story to dive into. Pleas feel free to recommend something. Currently I'm looking for something along the lines of Glen Cook or Steven Erikson. Darker gritty fantasy.

message 3048: by Crissy (new)

Crissy Moss (crissymoss) I am trying to figure out Goodreads, and finding it difficult. But I'm trying, so I'm introducing myself.

I've been listening to S&L since the first youtube video on Geek and Sundry. Loved it there and followed it over to the podcast. I've read a number of the books you've discussed and found them interesting, and I thought joining in on the conversation would encourage me to read more, too. I haven't had a lot of opportunities to read much lately.

I'm a gamer, and an author. I write mostly short stories, and I love all forms of games (table top and video, etc.) I don't have much time for games either, I'm too focused on my writing lately.

I read a lot of SF/F growing up (Pern, Xanth, etc) and continue to do so. I've got a "to read" list a mile long, too.
