Gea (gea89) | 412 comments I have just seen the movie and it was so great I have to get myself together and read a book too. I think it would be better read in a buddy read, so is anyone interested in reading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien with me?

message 152: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Oh! I wanted to go to that movie this morning for the cheap prices. Drat! Spending too much time on GRs. LOL!

Sorry, Gea, I just read it last year. But...let me think about it. I might be in the mood to listen to it. ☺

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Oh! The first show doesn't start at 9:55 a.m. like it did the other day. It starts at 11:45 a.m.! Yay! I think I'll go.

message 154: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) | 412 comments Report back what you thought of it, for me it was amazing.

I'm not planning to read the book before end of Jannuary so there's plenty of time to decide :)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Oh, Gea! It was AMAZING! I could go back and watch it again. I may, on Christmas Day. But, maybe it will be too crowded then. Just LOVED it. They did an excellent job.

The thing is, Jackson did a lot of reading of J.R.R. Tolkien appendixes to "The Lord of the Rings," that he (Jackson) added to the movie. I'd like to find a book that shows what Jackson selected, but I bet that doesn't come out until all three movies are complete.

For instance, I'd love to read info about Radagast the Brown, when we do the "buddy read."

Yup! I think we should do it. So, when? January? Are you up for checking out the appendixes, too?

message 156: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) | 412 comments Nice that you liked it as much as I did :) I watched in 3D format because of my brother but I don't really like that format, so I will probably go and see it again in normal format.

I have read LOTR books years ago and I forgot many details, so I can't remember Radagast being mentioned in the books but he's an interesting character.

I would like to read Hobbit the week after 14th of January. I start with my exams a week later and I won't be able to read much then. Where do you get appendixes? I am all for it, but the book I saw in my library has only the story itself.

message 157: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Okay, I'll look at my calendar. The appendixes are in The Lord of the Rings book.

Gea (gea89) | 412 comments Great Gisela :) So when do we start it then?

message 161: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Well, The Duke And I (Bridgertons, #1) by Julia Quinn starts on the 14th. You want to start this one on the 17th?

message 162: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) | 412 comments That's fine with me

message 163: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I put this up for a vote in HEAC group; we'll see if it wins. Are you a member there, Gea?

message 164: by Gea (last edited Dec 23, 2012 12:55PM) (new)

Gea (gea89) | 412 comments I believe I am. You were one of my first GR friends and I found plenty of groups through you :)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Really? That's neat, Gea.

message 166: by Gisela, Moderator (new)

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments 17th is fine, gives me time to borrow my sister's copy.

message 167: by ❀Tea❀ (new)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 252 comments I've been thinking about rereading Hobbit again. This will give me another reason. :)

Lisa Kay, I went through the appendixes few times, well, mostly (For some reason I usually give up by the time I get to E :) ) and I don't remember anything about Radagast the Brown. And, now I've done search, and only mention of him is in the book when Gandalf talks about him. Maybe that part was taken from The Silmarillion or something like that?

message 168: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Could be!

message 169: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1416 comments I did hear that there were things in the movie that were from The Silmarillion.
Man, I need to go see the Hobbit!! I'm dying to now. I wasn't planning on watching 'em til all 3 were out on DVD and I could watch it all at once, but the more I keep seeing previews and stuff, and people talking about it, the more I wanna see it.

message 170: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I was going to do the same thing, Kit★, but I'm so glad I went. In fact, I want to go see it again! LOL! It was that beautiful.

Elishia | 2620 comments Anybody fancy starting one of these series Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1) by Jim Butcher , Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris or One For The Money (Stephanie Plum, #1) by Janet Evanovich ? I have some PNR series that I need to catch up on but doubt anyone will be up to the same book as me.

message 190: by Gisela, Moderator (new)

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments I love the Dresden Files. I read till book 10 of the Sookie Stackhouse series and honestly after book 4 it isn't worth reading. Haven't read Stephanie Plum yet, might give it a try.

Yay Karen, I'm about 4 seasons behind on True Blood so I wouldn't know anything that was going on anyway, I wasn't going to read the books but the set I bought was really pretty and was only £7 so I gave in.

I hope I like all these series after i've asked everyone to read them ☺
