Rachel Cotterill (rachelcotterill) @Angela I was born in Luton! :)

I grew up in Lancashire, lived a few years in Oxford, and am now at the other end of the Cotswolds in a little Gloucestershire village.

I used to go to Oxborough Hall when I was little. All I cared about was the moat and the priest-hole... I should go back again soon.

My children loved the priest hole too. Hope to visit again this year, with the grandchildren - I wonder if they'll be as fascinated?

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 224 comments Hi Angela,
Before we moved to Narborough we had the small holding beside the river about a mile west of Oxborough hall [Whitebridge Holding], the farm opposite was owned by two Lambert brothers! What a small world!

Helen | 3465 comments Me too Emily, well not from but I live here. Are you enjoying the torrential rain, I've been soaked through twice today and yesterday. I know I have an umbrella somewhere...

Could you send some of your rain to North Dorset, my water butt is almost empty as we haven't had much rain at all.

message 108: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Lynne, it would be my pleasure! Everywhere is flooding beautifully here, it sets off the chilly, cold air very nicely.

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 224 comments Hi Helen,
could you please, please, sent some of that wet stuff which falls [allegedly] from the skies to our corner of west norfolk. We have had 7mm since the 14th of Feb!!! half of that a week ago.

my veg patch is not looking good, when it should be an advert for my gardening book [beyond the potting shed] so help my sales by sending a shower or three our way.
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

Angela (bookangel2) | 706 comments Very dry and windy in Luton. We've had a few odd showers, but the wind dries everything out so quickly.

message 114: by Susan (new)

Susan Timothy....Is your Gardening book still in print?

message 115: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 224 comments Hi Susan,
Most definitely, the easiest way is Amazon.
it's also available as an ebook.
No pretty, pretty pics, just a load of hints and tips to make life easier and save money. The motto of the long departed 'old boys' who taught me was 'don't work hard, work smart'.
The book is called 'beyond the potting shed', I wrote it at my publishers behest under my own name Paul Rix. isbn 978-07552-0614-8.
You can read a sample for free on 'Authors OnLine'
Just to clear up the 'name thing' I write my thrillers under the name 'Timothy Pilgrim' and Goodreads decreed I should be Timothy.
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

Susan Thank you Paul....my favourite gardening book is a very old one of Percy Throwers, that my Dad....who taught me to garden....swore by, but I shall certainly have a look at yours.
I'm in Suffolk, and like you the garden really needs rain. I once read somewhere that Suffolk is as dry as North Africa....I don't know if that's actually true, but this year's weather does seem to prove the point!

Doing my best - me blowing hard must be the winds in Luton - hope they rain clouds reach Norfolk and Suffolk and Dorset - can we have some sun and heat back please??

message 118: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 224 comments Hi Ian,
The heat has gone from here as well, we've still got the sun though, and the wind. I dropped a cigarette on what pretends to be the lawn and it caught fire!! Luckily I had a hose in my hand. I've got a black patch the size of a dinner plate among the grey and brown patches!
Gotta go, I think that is a cloud on the horizon!
Keep puffing, you're doing a grand job!
all the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

message 119: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 224 comments Hi Susan,
thanks for the interest, I hope you find it useful. I was surprised writing it how difficult it was to describe in words how to dig properly!
That cloud is big and black!! and coming our way!!! There is hope yet!
All the best from the Narborough dust bowl!
Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 224 comments Well done Ian,
there are a few spots of clear liquid on the window, this could be rain, my memory isn't what it was!! I suppose there could be a cup full over the whole village! More clouds coming! keep puffing!!

Susan It has rained here for four and three-quarter mins. Thank you Ian.

Or should we start calling you Tlaloc.

message 124: by Ian, Moderator (new)

Ian (pepecan) | 5088 comments Mod
I'm more a Mayan type weather god than an Aztec - so I prefer Chac (easier for my followers to say)....but Tlaloc is ok as well - sounds a bit welsh to me!!

message 128: by Helen (new)

Helen | 3465 comments Caillech is the Welsh Goddess of weather Ian, but I don't think she oversees Manchester. I did put a formal request in for the rain to move south but apparently rain is part of the Manchester city description and we have to keep it! Poured all night and still going on and off. Although there has been some intermittant bright stuff behind the clouds.

I'm afraid you are going to have to revert to mere mortal status, less than 1mm in the rain gauge!
15mm just 5 miles away, put it down as a near miss.

shock!!! we actually had about 5mm early this morning. At least it has laid the dust for an hour or so! Thank you all for your efforts to send the clouds here. Getting rid of the sat navs in the clouds might help!.

Hi Alex. Spent many a happy time in the forest. Lots of out of the way pubs & skating on Eyeworth Pond in winter when it was frozen! Ironically am currently reading Rutherfurd's 'The Forest'. Good so far!

Apparently if you were from oop North you'd have to talk about rain...at least the gist of recent messages...

message 145: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Pilgrim (oldgeezer) | 224 comments Hi Streyino,
Norfolk isn't exactly 'oop north' mind you I've been on about the lack of the wet stuff!
Why don't you come to Winchester, either 1st or 2nd July. I'm on the Authors OnLine stand both days and introducing the speakers at the Friday evening seminar entitled 'Warts and All' an in depth look at the world of indie publishing from all points of view
All the best Paul Rix [oldgeezer]

Alex Sinclair lol, my family are all from up north, lol, so I can fully appreciate the new forest. I think I spend more time walking my dogs and doing photography than anything else, lol.

Romsey - that takes me back. Good times there too.

Shall sleep on that thought - gasman coming at godawful o'clock!
