Michele Richard (michele_richard) | 7 comments I'm am witing on final edits for my first novel Mocked by Destiny. I am more than half way through writing #2 Mocked by Faith. and a third of the way through #4 Fate of the Fairies (no, its not a childrens book) #3 is still in the developement stage.

I like to write fiction with a reason. What does that mean? Well, I wanted to find a way to reach teens about teen pregnancy. We all know teen's brains will shut off if you hand them a Dont Do book. So I put it into a format they would enjoy and hopefully learn from.

message 110: by Angela (new)

Angela (dilaby) | 8 comments I have put my original story line aside to work on later this year and started a new project. I've named it 'Wolf Trade' and have only done 2 chapters so far, but am really loving it. Here is a rough blurb for you so far:

For the past 5 years women have been disappearing mysteriously from nightclubs across the country, no witnesses, not clues, no set pattern. Normally the FBI would take this case, but the underworld law enforcement believe it is connected to their world. Agent Dru Peters and Akim Jackson are dumped with the case, three years of frustration and sleepless nights.

Sasha Benson's life will never be the same again. Waking in a cemented cell, aches and pains racking her body she discovers she has been captured for blood and sex trade. What's worse is she has been changed, her capturer's transforming her into a werewolf. The elite rich Vampire patrons will pay big bucks for the werewolf blood, a delicasee in their society. Will her and the other girls be found and rescued? Will she ever have a normal life again?

A choppy blurb but it gives you the basics. This is definitely not a YA, some mild violence and still considering how far to explain the sex scenes. Hard to know sometimes whether to jump in the deep end and go all on out or hold back a little. :)

Obviously only in the early stages of this one, and is only the second book I have ever attempted to write. Yes, as Dani knows I am new to this sort of stuff. But we all have to start somewhere hey? :)

I swear I am getting so excited about IN THE NEON Dani. I can tell this book is going to be epic!!!! Good luck with the release girl. :D

Re-writing my second book. Even though I have two editors looking at it, I am re-writing anyway. Caring for Eleanor is the name of my second novel. Same heroine but going backwards in her life.

message 116: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Shimotakahara (lshimo) A couple of days ago, I completed the final chapters of my book - a memoir called THE READING LIST dealing with my defection from the Ivory Tower - and sent it off to my publisher. Now, I must confess, I'm feeling rather blue..... All the characters I've been communing with in my head these past several months have suddenly vanished.
I would like to get back into another writing project, which I put on the back burner while finishing my memoir. This book is a historical novel dealing with my grandmother's coming of age in a desert camp during the Japanese-American Internment. Perhaps I will start reading Jane Smiley's Private Life, a WW2 historical novel that I've been wanting to read for some time, for inspiration.

message 120: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelkelman) | 19 comments I'm finishing up the first book of a series called The Nephilim Wars: Dark Days.

Description: Roxanne Bryant always knew she was different, never really belonged, but no one could answer the enigma of who and what she really is. Her mother, the one person who probably could have answered her questions, abandoned her on a stranger’s door step when she was just a new born. Relationships with people are nearly none existent for Roxanne thanks to the curse she’s lived with nearly all her life. She can’t look into someone’s eyes or touch their skin without seeing the things they have done and the things they will do. Most people are horrific in Roxanne’s opinion so she keeps her head down and her hands to herself and secludes herself from the world she has never felt a part of. All of that soon changes after a close encounter with beings that are even faster and stronger than she is, with strange abilities of their own. She’s rescued in the nick of time and taken into the fold with others like her; other nephilim that call themselves Makarians. Quickly Roxanne is catapulted into the thick of a war between the two nephilim races; the Makarians and the Shaitans, who have been fighting over the human race since the beginning of their existence. The Makarians have proclaimed themselves good and the protectors of mankind while the Shaitans; their evil counterparts, devote themselves to killing and savaging the world. Roxanne doesn’t care about war or anyone else’s agenda for that matter, but the Lord of the Shaitans has locked his gaze on her and desperately wants her for some reason she can’t imagine. Roxanne is determined to find the Shaitan Lord and kill him before he finds her. The deeper Roxanne gets sucked in the more she realizes nothing is quite as it seems.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I'm really excited about this one (not that I don't get excited about the others) because I am introducing some really cool new characters into the mix. message 141: by Snapdragon (new)

Snapdragon (snapdragons) I'm editing a novel that has had enough working titles to fill the pages of another novel.

The structure is complicated, but I'm sure it's not unique. The story is shaped like a loop with a tail. The loop begins at one point in time, and as it moves to the end of the loop, chapters alternate(sometimes it's a few chapters before alternating again) from that point to points in the past, not technically flashbacks. Then when the two stories merge, it goes into the tail to finish there.

As you can see, I'm having a heck of a time describing the structure clearly. I love books that take the concept of time and turn it on its head.

Does anyone know of a book with a similar structure?

George Straatman I'm preparing for the release of the initial volume of my epic high fantasy series, entitled, Journey through the Land of Shades. I series that will pay a very oblique homage to the Arthurian legends that initially inspired my love of the genre.

for those interested in learning more about the central concepts of the series, please visit my website at the following address:

http://georgestraatman.blogspot.com/

Here is an abbreviated teaser for book one of Journey through the Land of Shades...

Islena Doraux was an extraordinary woman living an ordinary life. Daughter of the Tempest…this memory whispered at the edges of her consciousness; echoes that were the stuff of legend in a dozen worlds. An ancient nemesis would reach across the boundaries of our reality and draw Islena into an antiquated world in search of the Proclamations of omnipotence and compel her on a Journey through the Land of Shades

C.L. I'm working on the fourth book in my Christian Mystery Series, The Reboot Files. It's a cozy mystery series of the adventures of a wrongly disgraced Christian reporter who is now working on a cheesy paranormal investigation show for a station called Reboot, better known for hiring the rejects of the "legitimate media" than the quality of it's programming. Really more Scooby Doo with guys in rubber masks than a thriller. Anyway for some reason this one has been a real problem child. The first complete draft did not turn out the way I expected. Even the title is changed. It started with the classy "The Ghost in the White Satin Dress" it ended up being "The Wrong Ghost". Believe me, it's appropriate. This writing thing can be a real love/hate relationship at times.
