I read The MI books as well as listen to the audio CD's at the same time. I know it might sound a bit silly but I loved doing it that way especially at night when I can't focus on the words. :)

Re: Bridei Chronicles. I loved Faolan so much in The Dark Mirror even though he was kind of a minor character, the first thing I did when I got the second book was read the back to see if his name was mentioned. Sure enough, he is a major part. I think I have a thing for King's assassins as I love Valek in Poison Study too.

Faolan is somewhat the same kind of character and is the major player in the second and third books of the Bridei Chronicles, Blade of Fortriu and The Well of Shades.

I will get around to reading these at some point, along with Sevenwaters.Another friend really wants me to read Wheel of Time though, so I'm going to read WoT and she's going to read Tairen Soul. (although TS is much more romance-y, since WoT is more traditional epic fantasy).
      ***SPOILER ALERT***
My hubby is reading these right now and is on the second book. He is so weirded out that Jace and Clary still have feelings for each other even after finding out they are brother and sister. I told him that they can't just turn off their feelings. He still thinks it is weird. Can't wait for him to read the turn of events in the third book! :)

That's what got to me too, I thought it was weird how they still had feelings for each other and yet they're brother and sister and yet I was rooting for them...I wish they'd worked it out a little sooner :) BUT the whole twist with Sebastian was worth the wait!
***SPOILER***I was still wanting them to hook up even when I thought they were related.
If they had known/thought they were related before they had developed feelings for each other it would have been sick and disgusting. Instead, it was just tortured and a sad kind of romantic.

Exactly, Stacia! My hubby just doesn't get it but at least he's reading them. Haha!

Favorite series of all!! I love Cassandras writing, her twists and everything. I posted questions on her Q&A session she had in GoodReads a couple weeks ago, she's pretty awesome for doing that. When I was reading, I still wanted Jace and Clary to hook up even though they were brother and sister, it just didn't feel like they were I guess.

I still wanted them to hook up as well, even before the truth came out. I think deep down I knew they weren't really related, and honestly, I was coming up with reasons why they should still have a relationship despite their supposed parentage. I'm just sick, I guess ;)

Haha... I think it was written that way, we all kinda of knew, otherwise why would she pursue it. Can't wait for the next book!

I know everyone says Alex Pettyfer for Jace, but I don't see it... other then his hair being blonde in color I don't feel like he looks like how Jace is described. This is how I see Jace, and I know it's obviously not possible (If he were alive he'd be too old) but this is how I see Jace's hair, face and his attitude.

I keep trying to think of a newer actor who looks like this, I remember seeing someone and thinking about how he looked like a young Heath Ledger... I just can't remember who it was.
It probably doesn't help that I read Hunger Games first and because of that Alex Pettyfer is already ingrained in my head as Peeta Mellark... still, Jace's hair is longer and wavier then that... floating around his head. (I'm readin City of Bones now.)

I agree with you Wendy... I think there are better choices than Alex- I think he is a little too soft looking- I picture Jace with a stronger jaw and profile.

Me too! Exactly! And Cassandra Clare is very loud in stating that his hair waves around his head like a golden Halo... or like a lion... it's sexy and while I like Alex Pettyfer I just don't see him as Jace. Plus he doesnt have the sarcastic look that I see on Jace. Alex looks very sensitive... more like Peeta, hahaha. As soon as I read Jace in the very beginning my head pictured a very young Heath Ledger.
Probably because of how Jace looks on the cover of City of Bones. Clary is on City of Ashes, right? Who is on the cover of City of Glass?
How far did you get into it? It does take a while to pick up, in the beginning. At first I thought it was really strange, but I adore them now. :]

The character on the cover of the third isn't in the first two books … not exactly anyway. You'll seeee.
Bluemoon wrote: "I just got up to chapter 2. I'm listening to the audio of it now. So i'll see how that does."Oh, you should definitely read more in that case. I didn't have very high expectations after the first few chapters, but it gets a lot better! I promise! :)
So I was just wondering if anyone is nervous about the next book coming out? On youtube I've checking out Ms Cassandra giving clues about The City of Fallen Angels and she has mention some pretty scary things that are gonna happen especially to Jace and Clary.

I'm excited for the next book. I can't wait to finally read something with Clary and Jace just getting to be together. Plus it sounds like Simon branches off on his own, which should be pretty interesting.

Have any of you read Clockwork Angel? It took me a few chapters to get into it, but I am really enjoying now!

So right now I am reading

. I haven't read any of the other books. I thought I would read the prequel, and then decide. It took me until about 60% of the way through the book for me to start getting into it. I am still not at the point where I "Can't put it down," bit it is still good...

I think in the case of these books that the Mortal Instruments series should be read first. You understand what is going on in this one quicker that way... jmho

I do feel like CA was more enjoyable having read the MI series first, but then again, maybe MI will be more enjoyable for her having read CA first. It might be amusing to see Magnus for the first time in CoB and have it hit you that this is the same toned down character from CA.

After I read the others, I may go back and read Clockwork Angel again. I believe once I am more familiar with the world the author has created, I can see it in a new light. It was a good stand-alone novel, though, and I did enjoy it. In case anyone is interested, I reviewed Clockwork Angel below: **************Spoilers within.*****************
Rating Clarification: 3.5
There are elements of this book that made me want to knock it up to a 4. My real gripe with it was that, for all its wonderfulness, it took a VERY long time getting into the actual story. From the get-go, Tessa is kidnapped and tortured by the Dark Sisters, Will rescues her in a daring mission, but then after that... there is a serious slow-down. It's not even as though it starts slow and builds up. It starts fast...then DROPS for a good percentage of the book...then speeds back up again near the end. That made approximately 50% of the book very difficult for me to get through.
With that being said, I though that Clare did a nice job with the love story... if one can really call it that. I must say that near the end I felt like a little schoolgirl that was duped into loving Will as much as poor Tessa was. That being said, I felt I should have cried more. At the end, Clare chose to kill off Agatha and Thomas... but what is the purpose of killing off two characters who we hardly know, except in passing? Perhaps the death of Sophie would have been more poignant and effective.
I must admit, though, that spending the entire book thinking de Quincy is the Magister, only to realize at the end that it was Mortmain, was a great twist! I must applaud Clare for her plot twist in that regard. I very much felt that I had been played right along with the rest of the enclave.
I do wish to purchase and read the next book, but it not something I will be waiting for breathlessly. I am curious, though, and have burning questions regarding Tessa's parents and her origin... along with Will's reasons for going to see Magnus Bane during the Epilogue.
I reserve my 4 and 5 star ratings to something that does not have such a serious downfall as having to struggle through half of it to get to the "Good stuff," but it was not a "bad read" in any sense of the word. Cassandra Clare gets a hearty "well done" from me.
I really love the mortal instruments series.Well,I guess I'm lucky enough to read the infernal devices first even though that theres no relationship (*yet/so far?)between the two series.I love how Cassandra Clare put everything!everything about this series is AMAZING!!!

I'm glad i'm not the only Mortal Instruments fanatic. I reread the books a lot. I love love love Jace. He's my literary crush. I can't get enough of him. Can't wait for the next books in series

Hey, no hating on the squeee-ing!I would be hyped if this came to pass. My adult side is trying very hard to hide any fan girl hysterics, but we'll see how long this lasts. He really would be a good choice for the role.
