Hey, Debbie! If you're making a list of volunteers for people left without recs at the end, you can add me to it. I'd be willing to help out with that and take on another book myself if need be.

message 133: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Hey Guys!! I had the pleasure of doing the pairing this month - as most of you know I used a mentor method similar as before except based on the challenge itself and the number of times you have participated. There were a lot of first-timers that signed up so I had to take it one step farther with the GoodReads starting date. So the more experienced pick-it-for-me participants (big sisters and brother) will be paired with the newest participants.

* Some still have their profiles set to private, can you please set your profile to public or friend your partner so that they can see your list of books *

Welcome to the Pick It For Me Challenge. This is my favorite monthly challenge because I alway get such great new ideas. Hopefully you will be able to find a book or more in this list that interests you. If not just let me know and I will pick some new ones. Enjoy!

TBR

1. Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson...One of my favorite historical western romance authors. Catherine Anderson tells great stories and this is one awesome book.

2. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers...I haven't read much Christian Fiction/Romance, but when a friend recommended this I thought I would give it a try. Turned out to be one of the best stories I have ever read, this is one powerful book.

3. Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon...One of my first and favorite Paranormal Romance authors. This is the first in the Dark Hunter Series and is a fun, easy read.

4. Vision in White by Nora Roberts...This is a light read that will leave you smiling. I really enjoed this one, it reminded me of her early books.

Comanche Moon (Comanche, #1) by Catherine Anderson Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers Fantasy Lover (Dark-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Vision in White (Bride Quartet, #1) by Nora Roberts

NEW

1. High Country Bride by Linda Lael Miller...The McKettrick series was my introduction to historical western romance. I really like this series because it spans multiple generations of hot McKettrick men.

2. Highlander Untamed by Monica McCarty...Here is a good historical romance fix and a good series to boot. Besides who doesn't love a hot man in a kilt?!

3. The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter...Really cool Paranormal Romance based on the Greek myth of the opening of Pandoras Box. I am hooked on The Lords of the Underworld.

4. It Had to Be You by Susan Elizabeth Phillips...A fun sexy contemporary romance. Susan Elizabeth Phillips is on my automatic buy for a fun read list.

High Country Bride (McKettricks, #1) by Linda Lael Miller Highlander Untamed (MacLeods of Skye Trilogy, #1) by Monica McCarty The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars #1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

TBR

1. Vision in White by Nora Roberts
2. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
3. A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks
4. Covet by J.R. Ward
Vision in White (Bride Quartet, #1) by Nora Roberts Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks Covet (Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward

I've read all of the TBR books I suggested except Covet, in the process of reading that now. I suggested those because i found them to be really enjoyable and those were also the books off your TBR shelf that i actually read and would recommend.

Suggestions
1. Tribute by Nora Roberts, Suggested because i see you've read a few of her books and Tribute is one of my favorites.
2. Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost, Suggested because you seem to be into the paranormal romance.
3. Only By Your Touch by Catherine Anderson, Suggested because i just discovered this author and so far i'm in love.
4.Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin, Suggested because no book list is complete without one hardcore chick-lit =p

Tatiana (tatiana_g) Hi Tamela!

I just finished looking through your very extensive list of read books (you have very diverse tastes!) and have a few suggestions for you. Unfortunately I know almost none of the books on your TBR and I hesitate recommending books I have never read or heard of. I'll try to compensate by giving you extra recommendations of the books that are new to you.

From your TBR:

1. Howl's Moving Castle - I've only heard good things about this fantasy novel. It's a mystery why I haven't read it myself yet.

2. Hush, Hush - this book is often compared to Twilight and fans of Twilight tend to like it. Hope you will too.

New to you:

1 and 2. You like Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series, you might want to try her adult series - Succubus Blues and Storm Born.

3. You've read a lot of thrillers/mysteries, this is a good one IMO -
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

4. Fans of Patricia Briggs often enjoy this UF series - Magic Bites.

5. I see you are a fan of sci-fi, I found this sci-fi novel extremely interesting and thought provoking - The Left Hand of Darkness.

6. If you feel like reading some more Agatha Christie, this is my favorite of hers - And Then There Were None.

7. And, in conclusion, one more UF recommendation - Bitten.

Hope you will be able to find something interesting among these suggestions.

message 143: by KimKirt (new)

KimKirt | 1638 comments Hi Kristina!

Welcome to the Pick It For Me challenge and I'm honored to be your Big Sister! You don't have much on your TBR list, so I'm just going to recommend 8 books to you, none from your TBR. You seem to like the paranormal genre which is one I don't delve into often, but you also seem to like Christian books as well and I hope that you find something in my recs that you will enjoy, so here it goes:

The Screwtape Letters This is a widely popular book by C.S. Lewis about the devil giving his nephew advice on how to tempt a young man.

Wake by Lisa McMann. First in a series (I think there are 3 total) about a young girl who is drawn into other people's dreams. This is a YA book. I really enjoyed it.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Another YA book. Set in World War II era in Germany about a young girl who steals books (well, that's just a small part, really good book).

Redwall by Brian Jacques. I'm just starting this series with my son. Since you've read the Harry Potters, thought you might enjoy these. This is the first of the series.

Dark Lover by J.R. Ward. I'm going to read this one myself for this month's author challenge. I usually don't read paranormal but am told this is an excellent series, so I'm going to jump in and maybe you will too.

Fireproof by Eric Wilson. This movie was HIGHLY popular where I live (bible belt). I always enjoy books more then movies. About a firefighter whose marriage is heading for divorce and how he decides to fight for it (Christian based).

Take One by Karen Kingsbury. I've not read this, but she is a popular Christian author and this is the first of the series.

And finally,

The Shack by William P. Young. I found it somewhat repetitive, but so many people loved this book that I am going to recommend it to you and you should make your own opinion.

Okay, hopefully you find something here that interests you! Looking forward to seeing what you pick.

Kim

Danielle (Smiley1881) Polina
Here is your recommendations. You only had one book on your TBR list that has been released so I picked 7 new to you books. I noticed that you read a lot of YA books and I haven't read many of those but I think you'll enjoy one of these.

TBR
Linger by Maggie Stiefvater I haven't read this one but I heard the series is great.

NEW TO YOU
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder This is a great series that I think you will like.
Morrigan's Cross by Nora Roberts I noticed you've never read any of Nora Roberts books so I recommend this one. She is well loved and I really enjoy her paranormal romance books.
Dark Prince by Christine Feehan Again I noticed you haven't read any of Christine Feehan's books and this one is the book that got me started with paranormal romance and vampire series. I also read this book in one day I liked it so much.
Shadow Game by Christine Feehan Another great series from Christine Feehan.
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong You read her YA series and I just read this book by Kelly Armstrong and it was very good.
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen This book is one of my favorites I'm not sure why but I really liked it. It's a contemporary romance with a touch of magic.
The Sun Witch by Linda Winstead Jones This is another one of my favorites. It is part of a trilogy about three witch sisters and all three books are totally different and just as great as the others.
Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder Morrigan's Cross (Circle Trilogy, #1) by Nora Roberts Dark Prince (Carpathians, #1) by Christine Feehan Shadow Game (GhostWalkers, #1) by Christine Feehan Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen The Sun Witch (Fyne Witches, Book 1) by Linda Winstead Jones

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments Hello Lindsey! Welcome to the Pick it For Me Challenge. It's so nice to be paired with a fellow Texan! I have lived in Minneapolis the last 9 nine years, but I was born and raised in Dallas and I will be a Cowboys fan until the day I die! :-)

It was fun to go through your shelves. Interestingly, I have only read ONE book on your TBR list, so the other recs are based on hearsay.

From your TBR
Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Funny at times with a to-die-for leading man.
Darkfeverby Karen Marie Moning. I've heard good things about this one. I actually downloaded it to my Nook as a freebie a couple of weeks ago, so I hope to read it soon.
Wild Ride by Jennifer Crusie. I like the title and it got solid ratings on Goodreads.
Naked in Death by J. D. Robb. I've also heard good things about this one.

New To You
I'm recommending The Vampire Lestat since you gave 4 stars to Interview with the Vampire. IMO, the second book is the best in the entire series.
The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield is a gothic mystery that I really enjoyed.
My standard rec to everyone is The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. Can't go wrong with this one!
I noticed you haven't read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. If you choose this one, prepare to neglect your responsibilities!
For something different, I would recommend A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith or The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.

If you want more recs, let me know. Hope you enjoy your August books!
