Traci Read Old Man's War and Agent to the Stars, recommend this book to fans of Moving Pictures, this week. Now I'm reading Naked in Death and The Dragonbone Chair.

Tracy I get so many terrific book ideas from this group!

message 3104: by Scott (new)

Scott | 165 comments I finished The Summer I Died on Saturday. That was an intense book to say the least.

After that, I decided to go with something much lighter. So I started I Am Ozzy. It is very funny so far.

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 861 comments I just finished the third book in the Green Rider series, The High King's Tomb, and now I'm starting Furies of Calderon.

message 3106: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments I added Dragonflight in my currently reading. I had wanted to read more of a good YA Fantasy, and I kept on passing it over because I've been liking the adult horror and sci-fi. I'm hoping that waving it under my nose will make me read it soon.

message 3107: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Close to done with Ice Station, looking to line up my next read. Not sure what I'll read yet. Maybe Hexed

message 3108: by Dana (new)

Dana | 140 comments I took a recent break from fantasy and finished up reading a few Alice Hoffman novels and Fatal Error. Started reading Sailing to Sarantium during the hurricane and The Dragonbone Chair last night.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I'm reading Sails & Sorcery: Tales of Nautical Fantasy, and there are at least two stories by members on the group. I am enjoying it. I haven't read an anthology in a while, so it's nice to get back into a nice, meaty one.

carol. | 2616 comments Going NF for a change... reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Fascinating and very readable. It amazes me anyone trusts doctors after some of the atrocities of the 50s-70s.

message 3111: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (versusthesiren) | 357 comments This power outage is great for reading productivity. :D Finished Fire (liked it more than Graceling - it made me feel warm and fuzzy), Windfall (I love the Weather Warden series thus far, but now it's getting weird), and Son of the Shadows (loved it! don't know why I sat on it for so long).

Now reading Child of the Prophecy. Dunno what's next.

I really need to read that. It's been on my list for ages.

message 3113: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments It's going fast--it changes between science history and personal history every chapter, which helps prevent some of it from dragging. Some of the history she recounts on non-consenting medical experimentation--actually, even the early treatment of some cancers--is horrific.

message 3114: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat | 0 comments Yeah, the interviews I've heard and read have been fascinating.

message 3115: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments It kept on being put in my currently reading shelf, then put back in my to read shelf because I have other books I wanted to read. I'm out of my non-fiction phase for now. I haven't popped in here much because I haven't been reading fantasy. I've been reading horror and sci-fi.

There's 3 books in total. The last one is called The King of Attolia.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I am reading The Hobbit for the first time. I like it. Listening to Imager and Finnikin of the Rock on audiobook.

message 3128: by Sharon (last edited Sep 01, 2011 11:46AM) (new)

Sharon Michael | 572 comments Not quite sure where to place this one First Grave on the Right ... elements of urban fantasy (main character sees/ interacts with ghosts) but is a P.I. and works with the police, one of whom is her uncle, so police procedural/mystery elements as well.

Whatever it is, I'm enjoying it!

message 3129: by Scott (new)

Scott | 165 comments I finished I Am Ozzy last night. I think that this was the funniest book I've ever read.

I then started The Great and Secret Show.

message 3130: by Traci (new)

Traci The Great and Secret Show is one of my favorites. Hope you like.

I'm reading Best Served Cold. Liking it better than First Law trilogy. Love the characters. Mostly improved writing, although why does Abercrombie feel the need to add "sound effects" to nonverbal human noises? Weird. Lol.

message 3131: by Susan (new)

Susan | 32 comments I am currently reading Hounded by Kevin Hearne. Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne

message 3132: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (versusthesiren) | 357 comments Finished Child of the Prophecy - definitely the least strong of the first three Sevenwaters books and I wasn't a fan of the main couple at all, but Marillier's writing is good enough that it was a decent read.

Now reading Moonshine by Alaya Dawn Johnson. After that, on to Nights of Villjamur.

message 3133: by Traci (new)

Traci Started Under Heaven. It has even less fantasy elements than Kay's other books but being a fan of Chinese cinema that's not really a problem.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I started The Devil You Know at the dentist today. I really liked the writing. I think this will turn out to be a quick read, because it just flows.

message 3135: by Tasula (new)

Tasula | 21 comments I really liked that book and went on to the sequels, all of which were equally good.

Shannon (_shannon) | 289 comments Reading Nights of Villjamur but haven't had much chance to get into it yet. After that, will probably read The King of Attolia to finish of The Queen's Thief series.

message 3137: by Tracy (new)

Tracy I am currently reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Has anyone read this one before?

Traci Tracy wrote: "I am currently reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Has anyone read this one before?"

I did and was disappointed. Potential great. Set up great. Book layout beautiful. But I didn't care for the writing. And although the pictures were interesting the book seemed too gimmicky sometimes.
Trying to finish
Among Thieves, it's a okay filler book. Also reading the science fiction book Revelation Space that I'm liking better.

message 3139: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 861 comments I just finished reading Storm Front by Jim Butcher and all the hype was absolutely spot on! I loved this introduction to the Dresden Files and will certainly continue on in the series. Now, I'm starting to read The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. I really liked his Percy Jackson series, so we'll see how much I enjoy this one.

message 3140: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Cheryl,

I'm so glad you liked Storm Front! its one of my favorites, and just gets richer with time. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Tasula wrote: "I really liked that book and went on to the sequels, all of which were equally good."

I can see why, Tasula. His writing really flows.

Absolutely! Thank goodness for Goodreads and this group, who introduced me to Harry.

Marina Fontaine (marina_fontaine) | 175 comments The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind. It seems he's setting up for another 10 books or so, which would be fine with me.

message 3145: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Keep going with Dresden, Cheryl! It only gets better as the series goes on! :)

message 3146: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (_shannon) | 289 comments Was going to start The King of Attolia but decided to go with Midnight Never Come by Marie Brennan.

message 3147: by Traci (new)

Traci Reading Revelation Space, science fiction but the worldbuilding and imagery is reminding me of my more fantasy reads. And started A Shadow in Summer, too early to tell what I think. Sort of reminds me of Orson Scott Card so far.

I couldn't get into Revelation Space, but Chasm City by the same author is very good as a combo of scifi/fantasy if you like reading about unique worlds.

I just read that one a week or so ago. I liked it. It wasn't 5 Stars or nothing, but it was entertaining for me :)
