message 2351: by Traci (new)

Traci Good luck with Lovecraft, Scott ;) I eventually got to like his work but the first few things I read of his was quite a struggle.

message 2352: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments Oops, forgot to do a triplet for Jason:

I finished The Case of Charles Dexter Ward. I enjoyed it more than The Call of Cthulhu. Also, instead of reading a typo infested eBook, I listened to it in audio. The narrator was excellent. Now, I'm looking forward to his other stories. But after I get through the forum reads that I want to do this month.

Just started Oryx and Crake for SciFi Aficionados. I am loving it! It's an audio that's narrated by one of my favorite narrator, Campbell Scott.

message 2353: by Scott (new)

Scott Who narrated "Case.."?

message 2354: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments He has a strange name, Felbrigg Napoleon Herriot. Now, does that sound like a prissy Brit or what? But he's great! I wish he would narrate all of Lovecraft's stories.

message 2355: by Scott (new)

Scott Sounds like the name of a character Lovecraft made up.

message 2356: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments Maybe he's Lovecraft reincarnated. That is part of the Ward story.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I'm currently being polylibrous. I am listening to Angelology on audio, reading an omnibus for Dark Reflections, just started Demon from the Dark and In Bleed Country.

I can't believe it, the book is actually published!

message 2359: by Christine (new)

Christine Did you get an advance copy? I thought it wasn't coming out til the 12th?

message 2360: by Mach (last edited Jul 09, 2011 11:09PM) (new)

Mach | 572 comments That's what i thought too but it seems like the norwegian bookstore that i preordered from have just sent it, without bothering about the release date. I got it in the mail yesterday.

message 2361: by Christine (new)

Christine That makes you a very lucky person.

message 2362: by Mach (new)

Mach | 572 comments I know.

Currently working through Wit'ch Storm and 1984.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1018 comments I'm about halfway through Warriors of Alavna Warriors of Alavna by N.M. Browne a YA fantasy sort of story about two teens who time-travel back to 75 AD and get embroiled in some problems. So far it's not bad.

message 2366: by Scott (new)

Scott | 165 comments I'm done with The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.

My son has been trying to get me to catch up with him on the Harry Potter series so I guess that I'll start Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Terry Simpson | 261 comments I just shut down all my other reads for A Dance of Dragons.

message 2368: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I'm reading only short stories until my copy of A Dance of Dragons comes in the mail.

Other than that, I'm now listening to Summer Knight at work.

message 2369: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) You know me I am reading what else than A Dance with Dragons.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I'm reading The Blue Sword.

message 2371: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments Finished Oryx and Crake. Wow! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't want to stop the audio. It looks like there's a sequel with the way the story ended. MA did a terrific job weaving the tale via Snowman's eyes and Jimmy's (Snowman) memory. I can't wait to get to her other books.

But I have other monthly reads to do first. I am now on to Elantris. It's only July 12 and I've fulfilled Horror's read and SciFi's 2 reads. Now to Fantasy Aficionados' read.

Oooooh... I've had this on my bookshelf for about 2 months and have been meaning to read it. I love Atwood's writing style and hearing a good review makes me want to read it more!

message 2373: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat | 0 comments Finished A Dance with Dragons after re-reading books 2-4 of the series in the past few days. I'm taking a break for a day or so.

message 2374: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments Debra, we're having a great discussion on Oryx and Crake at SciFi Aficionados.

I'm jealous, lol. I need to read my BotM's for FA and my KS group's July reading challenge. And I'm in a Dresden challenge and a The Cat Who challenge. *sigh*

message 2376: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments Tell me about it! I disappear from a forum for a while because I'm not reading that genre. My taste is so varied, I'm reading about medicine one month, war in another month, Japanese or Russian lit in the next month, and now I'm making the Aficionados round. It's my fate to have an ADD reading taste.

message 2377: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jennyc89) Just finished The House of Seven Gables and now I'm starting The Case of Charles Dexter Ward for Horror Aficionados. It's also my first Lovecraft, although I've played the Call of Cthulhu RPG and loved it! I'm hoping to finish it in a day :)

I might have to take you up on that. I've been buying the 3 book HB omnibuses and I'm only up to book 9 (owned wise) right now.

message 2382: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments Just noticed FA also has in the July read A Clash of Kings and Retribution Falls. 4 books for July? And I haven't even read A Game of Thrones! Are you people trying to kill me?

message 2383: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 730 comments I know Aloha-the buddy reads go up there too, so its kind of confusing, but the reads for July are really Elantris and Retribution Falls.

message 2384: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments Thanks, Maggie.

Maggie and MrsJoseph, it's not a good idea to hand Aloha the very ingredients she will use to cook you with! LOL

message 2394: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (versusthesiren) | 357 comments Just finished Catching Fire and found it frustrating. I think it has the potential to be really awesome, but certain things keep bogging it down. The ending intrigued me to the point where I might read Mockingjay, though I've heard bad things...

Onto the A Storm of Swords re-read!

Roshio | 106 comments Valerie wrote: "Just finished Catching Fire and found it frustrating. I think it has the potential to be really awesome, but certain things keep bogging it down. The ending intrigued me to the point..."

It'd be good to read Mockingjay just to finally end the series(I personally gave it only 2 stars) but I'm glad I can finally see how it all ends. I loved Catching Fire, although definitely not as good as the Hunger Games.

Currently reading
Assassin's Quest. Enjoying it, but I still wish something good would actually happen to Fitz for a change.

message 2396: by Bill (new)

Bill (kernos) | 350 comments I just started Oryx and Crake which so far is fascinating (about 75 pages in). I have not decided its genre yet.

message 2397: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Majors | 35 comments I'm reading three books right now, but really making progress on only two. I'm about 340 pages into The Name of the Wind and 2 1/2 hours into the audiobook of Storm Front. It's my first exposure to the Dresden Files and I really like it. I'm glad there are so many of them and I hope they're all good. I've read only the first chapter of Incarceron though. I'm seeing that I don't have time to do more than two books at once if I want to do a thorough read.

message 2398: by Traci (new)

Traci I'm reading my first Dresden book too. Nice to know not everyonehas read these books. :)
