colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I have finished the Stand! WooT!

I gave it 3 1/2 stars - slightly above middle of the road. I did find some of the characters and certain parts very frustrating, too, Maggie, which is one reason why I couldn't rate it higher. There were a lot of little things which irritated me about it.

But there were also some moments I really liked, and some interesting ideas, I thought, so I didn't think it was all bad. And I do have to say I loved Glen towards the climax when he got to Las Vegas.

Tonight I'll be starting Heartless by Gail Carriger. (*squee!*) Here's hoping it lives up to my expectations.

After that I'll get to Retribution Falls.

Hey, Self...

I finished Blade of Tyshalle today. Will start on Caine Black Knife later tonight.

You had better have Empire and Return ready to watch soon.

I'm glad you're liking it, Regina. That book really blew me away.

message 2309: by [deleted user] (new)

Dude, I haven't read Caine Black Knife yet....if you get to it before me, let me know how it is. I heard he kinda went overboard in that one...

I'll get Empire and Return this week. What'd ya think of Blade of Tyshalle?

Happy Canada Day? Lol...that's...awesome! Happy Canada Day and Independence Day as well :)

I liked it a bit more than the first one. Though it was slightly erratic at times with the pov switching.

Black Knife is the last one, right? I figure I started this series, I'm going to finish it.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 1018 comments Woo! Finished The Stand! Now, I think I need something a bit lighter in nature, so I think I'm going to go ahead and pick up where I left off with Mercedes Lackey and read The Snow Queen.

message 2314: by Traci (new)

Traci I finished Renegade's Magic. Maybe how too high of expectations can ruin a book the reverse is also true because I actually liked it. Not the best but I atleast have definately read worse. After picking out a few books and not getting into any of them I've finally given up and will start Ship of Magic today.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments My goal this month is to stick to my TBR-owned list (with the exception of the BotMs).

I'm also in the middle of a reading challenge so this is going to be a rather hectic month for me, reading wise.

Already like it more than I liked Assassin's Apprentice so I'm very optimistic right now that you're right. :D

Finished Caine Black Knife.

Much more straightforward story then the previous two. Gives a lot of background on Caine's early days with his Escape from Boedeckan adventure snippets mixed in with his 'present day' story.

But it's only half a story. The second part/book doesn't come out until next year or some crap.

I hate cliffhanger endings...

Aloha | 940 comments I'm also posting this thing in HA and SA, just to drive Jason crazy, since he moderates all 3.

Finished The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. That was a lot of fun. Now I'm in the middle of The Case of Charles Dexter Ward for Horror Aficionados July read. I am liking it so far. When I'm done with that, it'll be Oryx and Crake next. For paper book, I'm reading Atom: Journey Across the Subatomic Cosmos, which will probably go at a crawl since I can't stay still and I hate to read paper because of my bad eyesight. I sit too long at the computer as it is. During my leisure time, I like to move around. That's why I'm a fan of audios and eBooks.

Addendum. I was told that I should read Hitchhiker 2, to find out the question to the ultimate answer. Darn, I have to reorder my reading list to include book 2.

message 2324: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) Right now I'm reading A Feast for Crows, getting all prepped up for some Dragons next week.

Holy crap, next week. Seriously?!?! NEXT WEEK!

Ahem...

After Crows, I'm going to try to squeeze in Servant of the Empire for another group and Elantris. But if I don't get them done in time, they are going out the window.

Dragons, damn it! DRAGONS!

Now back to your regularly scheduled conversation.

message 2336: by Kevin (new)

message 2344: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (last edited Jul 06, 2011 06:08AM) (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I'm reading a crap load of books:

I put down Magician Apprentice, I never got interested.

I started Retribution Falls but I'm only a couple of pages in.

I got my copy of Elantris yesterday, haven't started yet.

I'm also doing a group challenge with a different group that I'm in. It's a Friends Challenge and you pick 11 friends and read a book off of their "read" shelf. I've only read 3/11 and I'm working on two more right now. Of course, there are Grant-like freaks in my group so I've already lost the challenge (first one to 11 received a $25 Amazon gift card). :)

Amanda (daughterofoak) Colleen ~blackrose~ wrote: "Amanda wrote: "I am going to start The Left Hand of God by Paul Hoffman tomorrow. It sounds like it will be good..."

I've been eyeing this one for awhile. Let us know how it is. :>"

It took me forever to slog through this one. I know a book isn't right for me when my excuse for not reading is that I have to clean the house :)
I didn't like the characters and the world seemed flat to me. I also had issues with some of the phrasing and the almost constant use of euphemisms (not sure if this is the word I'm going for, here).

message 2346: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) I am currently reading Melusine, which I am enjoying quite a bit so far.
I am also about to start The Princess Bride for a buddy read I am doing.

I'm going to start The Case of Charles Dexter Ward this afternoon. This will be my first read of any Lovecraft.
