I love Mercy. She's totally kick ass. I'm just feeling like reading an old standard...I'm a little off from normal. I think I need a new book break.

message 2203: by Kasia (new)

Kasia (kasia_s) | 51 comments I adored the second Mercy book, it was solid fun with juicy guts hence my readiness to jump back in and read the third, I couldnt wait anymore.

message 2204: by Eileen (new)

Eileen I enjoyed them so much I read the series in a couple weeks. Couldn't read them fast enough. I love kick ass women. Patricia Briggs takes Mercy through an amazing journey.

message 2205: by [deleted user] (new)

Eileen I think Mercy is among if not the best female UF character I've read so far. I've enjoyed the series more and more as it's progressed. :)

Ala, Laurel, Tracey, Jason and everyone else.... I picked up Episode IV today....

Balls in your court, Ala :)

I'm a masochist, I savor series and spread the books out, I have at least 9 series going and it's great :)

message 2207: by Laurel (new)

Laurel @ Grant

Yay!! I can't wait for you to see it! I'm reading Monster Hunter International to say thank you :)

message 2208: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Kasia, if I really like a series I have to read every one, I hate not knowing what's next.

I'm going to confess, besides the original Star Wars (Harrison Ford) I haven't seen any of the newer ones.

Laurel Don't bother!

You rock, Laurel :) lemme know what you think of MHI

message 2212: by carol. , Senor Crabbypants (new)

carol. | 2616 comments I think the original (IV) would be fun to watch with a friend who's seen it and a couple of mixed drinks--it seems so campy this many years later. Wouldn't even come close to stopping and rewinding.

P.S. Laurel--I haven't seen Casablanca straight through OR Gone with the Wind. *runs and hides*

message 2213: by [deleted user] (new)

Eileen, don't bother. The prequels are far too dry to even be considered campy fun. And JarJar is just all kinds of retarded.

As to Casablanca, I've never watched it either.

Self, I have it. I'll be reading it tonight.

message 2214: by [deleted user] (new)

It's not that I don't want to watch it, I have just never gotten around to it.

Gotten is such a weird ass looking word...

message 2215: by [deleted user] (new)

What're we gonna do, sit in a chat room and discuss it as we watch?

that might be fun.

message 2216: by [deleted user] (new)

You can do buddy watches on Netflix using your 360 and chat the whole time. Now we just need to make Tracey a gamer :) See Tracey, buying yourself a Xbox 360 is just a way to get Ala to watch Casablanca.

message 2217: by [deleted user] (new)

Do I need Netflix too?

Because that sounds kinda fun.

That's what I thought too, until I was 18 years old. Repressed memories will do that to you. Beware.

message 2219: by [deleted user] (new)

Where you been, girl?

message 2220: by [deleted user] (new)

Yup, you do, Ala...I think it's only like 6 bucks a month for the straight Netflix streaming option. I get together with buds once a month or so and we get an Xbox live party together and watch really bad horror movies on Netflix and go all Mystery Science Theater 3000 on em. Good times :)

message 2221: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol @ Denae. I'll keep my eye out for suppressed memories. I do have a couple of lost drunken nights I figure will come back to me someday.

Likely on youtube.

Minecraft. That shit's addicting. Seriously, it's awesome. I've had it for like a week and have created a ziggurat, terraced gardens, regular gardens lit in part by giant cacti, and am working on a subway. Oh, and I have an awesome bamboo garden.

I have done a little bit of reading though and I just caught up on my reviews. Still gonna fall about 5 books short of what I planned to read this month. :/

*mutters about need to sleep*

Also, I adore Casablanca. The writing is brilliant.

message 2223: by [deleted user] (new)

Was wondering why I wasn't running over your posts all over the place.

Minecraft...yeah, I'm never touching that game. Seems like electronic crack.

It's my boyfriend's fault. He gave it to me. What can I say, he knows me well. Even the spiders haven't driven me away.

What a delightful story about a great movie. I think most of can Identify with the situation.

@Grant - I cannot believe I've finally encountered someone who's not seen Star Wars. I'm a Star Wars Trekkie, seen the movies a million times and read the entire extended universe. I will be curious what you think of the 1st trilogy after all these years. Try to remember it was made over 30 years ago. Try to place yourself in the late 70's, early '80's. I consider episode III the most adult and significant of the 6 movies, so suggest you the do the 2nd trilogy, even though...

If anyone has not read it, do try it.

message 2229: by [deleted user] (new)

Kernos, I'm a big fan of western and noir movies so watching something "dated" doesn't bother me a bit. I'm going to watch it tonight actually so I'll let yall know what I think tomorrow :)

I read many of the Witch World books years ago, but always just here and there, not really as a 'series'. As much as I've enjoyed going back and re-visiting Lackey's Valdemar books/series I think I'm going to have to look for the Gates to Witch World.

message 2231: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 572 comments I've read all of the Mercy Thomas series. Fun read, although not one I kept to re-read. Honestly, with the proliferation of the "kick-ass" urban fantasy with strong female characters ... I tend to get confused. I like them, but too many of them are too much alike.

Besides Briggs' series, there is Kat Richardson's Greywalker series, C. E. Murphy's "Urban Shaman" series, Tanya Huff's "Blood" series. I have to say that my favorite in this specific 'type' is still the first one I read ... the first two books in Mercedes Lackey's Diana Tregarde series (the third one you can forget).

message 2232: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) I started The Lies of Locke Lamora this morning.

*sigh*

I think I'm in love.

message 2233: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Savor the read, Amanda! It's a great one!

message 2234: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a great read, be sure to follow up with the second book too Amanda :)

message 2235: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Here's hoping the author is back on his feet and able to pick the series back up. They really are great reads!

message 2236: by [deleted user] (new)

Did something happen to him?

message 2237: by Laurel (new)

Laurel If I remember correctly, he posted on his website that he was having some issues with depression, but was seeking treatment. It's why the two sequels have been delayed.

message 2238: by [deleted user] (new)

Naw he's just slow as sin. He still has three more books to write in the Gentleman Bastard series. *sigh*

message 2239: by [deleted user] (new)

No kidding? I didn't know that. Hope he's doing better

message 2240: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) I have Red Seas Under Red Skies ready and waiting...I'll probably get to it tonight if I can drag my ass off Goodreads long enough to actually read.

Well, I hope Scott Lynch is doing better...so far I really love the bit I've read of the first book.

message 2241: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) That sounded terrible! I hope he's doing better for his own sake, not just because I want to read more books. lol

Laurel wrote: "Here's hoping the author is back on his feet and able to pick the series back up. They really are great reads!"

I thought there was an illness or death in his family. I read that somewhere a long time ago so I don't know if it was accurate. I need to read Red Seas Under Red Skies. Soon as I figure out how to clone myself.

I'm reading it as well, Amanda. Really love it, especially the dialogue. *Buddy read* :)

message 2244: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) Awesome, I was hoping to start a buddy read soon! I'm really enjoying this book so far. The dialogue is pretty terrific and the first few chapters had me cracking up constantly.

message 2245: by Kevin (last edited Jun 25, 2011 07:17PM) (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) Amanda, you can see what the group through of the book as it was a book of the month back in February.

message 2246: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) I'll check it out, thanks Kevin :)

message 2247: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) You're welcome

message 2248: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I saw a reasonably priced copy of Casablanca the other day. I think I'll pick it up and give the movie a second try :)

message 2249: by [deleted user] (new)

So I just finished watching Star Wars for the first time. I suppose I should be more exact and say I just watched Star Wars Episode IV for the first time. Sooooooo....*grins* it was pretty cool.

I gotta say that seeing In a Galaxy far away scrolling at the beginning was pretty trippy. I've seen the same effect ripped off so many times that seeing the original was kinda neat :) Luke seemed kinda wimpy but Han Solo was right up my alley. I can see where they might have ripped off a bit of Mal from him in Firefly. I've always been a Huge Indiana Jones fan but I can see where Han Solo could rank pretty high too. I dug R2D2, didn't really care much for the golden robot and still can't see Leia as being hot. Oh and it Sucks that Obi Wan died! I figured he'd be around at Least one more movie. Or did he die? I wasn't real sure with the way the scene was shot. And where was Yoda?! Ah well, overall I thought it was cool. I can see where it would have seemed amazering when it was released :) Oh....and it seemed kinda silly that they'd have like one glaring spot that could destroy the whole planet destroying orb/ship thing...I'm just saying. Anyways, yall can rest easy knowing that I'm no longer a virgin :) I may even watch the sequel someday!

message 2250: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol..I do know about the metal bikini...but only because Ross made a reference to having Rachel wear it as his sexual fantasy in an episode of Friends :D

C3PO! That's right...and in my defense it's not like the british robot had a real name. I might have remembered it if his name were Jeeves or something :P
