whimsicalmeerkat | 0 comments I just read your review. It sounds different than what I meant by that. I was thinking more along the lines of things like Hostel and Saw when I said that.

message 2552: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 940 comments Do you mean you would like a book resembling Saw or you would like to avoid a book resembling Saw?

message 2553: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat | 0 comments Avoid at all costs

message 2554: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) Still reading Dragons. It's been like a week! Not that I'm not enjoying it.. But I read The Stand, and then A Feast for Crows, and now Dragons... Those are some long ass books. I need some shorties after this to help me unwind.

But I should be finishing tonight, at which time I will finally be starting Elantris. There's still a week left in the month! I can make it!

I loved that book. can't wait for the next one!

Still reading Hounded. I bought a new phone last night so I can at least sorta read my ebooks now. Still trying to make a final decision on a new ereader.

Laurel Grant - you're reading Ghost Story (The Dresden Files, #13) by Jim Butcher already?! Argh!! Where's Mike? I need someone's shoulder to cry on!

*sad little fist bump at Grant*

message 2560: by [deleted user] (new)

*hugs* I know, Laurel, I know.

I read the first 20 chapters last night before I went to bed. I'm intentionally not reading today while I work so I can give it my full attention tonight. It's definitely different but great so far. If you haven't read the story in Side Jobs that takes place right after Changes, I recommend you do so. It definitely gives you insight into certain aspects of the book!

I'm reading A Dance with Dragons too. I've had it since Wednesday and unfortunately I'm only 300 pages in... My reading has been a bit slow. I'm bummed that I probably won't be able to read Elantris before the month runs out! I know that I can still read it in August, but I'm afraid I'll get behind in my August reads...

Thanks, Grant. I'm reading Side Jobs right now. I wasn't planning on it at first then read somewhere that there is a connection to Ghost Story in it. Good to know that person wasn't lying.

message 2571: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) Have we talked about where all of the Side Jobs stories should be read? I haven't read any of them yet, and I've read through book five.

message 2572: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Jim Butcher writes an intro for each story that explains where in the series they should be read. Very handy! :)

We need to figure out a time for you to show me the used book store circuit here in DC. Unfortunately, it should probably wait until I have a job :(

Yeah, I'm completely fine with violence and blood, and I even like older Dario Argento films, but straight torture for the sake of torture just makes me angry and despair for the future of our species. Go figure.

I completely agree. I'm ok with violence in a movie ilke, say A History of Violence, Inglorious Basterds, and Eastern Promises. But violence for the sake of just showing violence (i.e. torture porn) like Saw, Hostel, and The Collector doesn't interest me one bit.

So far very good. I'll definitely keep you informed. I picked it up as one of my last mementos from our local bookstore, Waldenbooks(aka Borders). My library has not discovered Philippa Ballantine yet.

MrsJoseph wrote: "I loved that book. can't wait for the next one!"

MrsJ,
You mean this beautiful looking book?

Spectyr (Book of the Order, #2) by Philippa Ballantine , Spectyr

Yeah, I actually checked at my Waldenbook store to see if they had Spectyr; I think I would have actually just bought them together (quite a leap of faith!), but no.

What you still have a Waldenbooks nearby? I am so jealous.

message 2585: by Scott (new)

Scott | 165 comments I finished The Beach, which I really enjoyed.

Then I started It. This is my 3rd time through this one. I haven't read it in almost 20 years. This is my favorite King book. When I started reading it yesterday, I was getting the chills. This book scared the crap out of me when I first read it back in about '87. I think I was about 17 when I first read it.

I'm out here but avoiding all places where Ghost Story is/will be/may be mentioned. Mine should arrive today or tomorrow...I hope. It's been shipped. Audio should be here late but they shipped my print copy separately.

Hanging on...

message 2589: by Laurel (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments AAAAAAAIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!!!! I just tracked my package. I live in Nashville, yesterday it hit KY, checked it today it has gone from KY to MS! to a shipping center. CRAP! If they had called me first I'd probably have driven up to KY and picked it up! Now arrival date is expected for the 28th! @#@*&%#@#&*%$@#!!!!!!

I think I need to go find my nitro tablets, excuse me.

message 2591: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Mike,

Are you a fan of cheesecake, cupcakes, pie? I suggest some comfort food, stat!

I'd be quite sad if you left.

message 2592: by Mike (the Paladin) (last edited Jul 26, 2011 01:24PM) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments I am munching animal crackers (I emphasize crackers and NOT cookies) and iced tea as I read Hard Magic by Larry Correia... Hard Magic. Not Dresden, but good. Trying not to think of the insidious, evil, duplicitous, villainous, monsters who are working behind the scenes to keep my Dresden book from getting to me!!!!!!!!

It's a conspiracy.

You'll have to show Aloha, she would love it!!!

message 2594: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Mike,

It's like you're Dresden himself! When he gets mad, entire cities may be laid to waste!

Poor little animal crackers...

message 2595: by Mike (the Paladin) (last edited Jul 26, 2011 02:04PM) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Actually if you look at the animal crackers...they don't look much like actual animals. More like strang mutated creatures from a universe devoid of reason and form!!! Like the kind of place from where the viscous, baneful, iniquitous, repulsive, spiteful, baleful, stinking, revolting, nefarious fiends who have worked together to keep my book from me would spring, FULLY FORMED FOR EVIL, MASSACRE AND RUIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, got a bit carried away. Think I'll add some aspirin to that nitro pill, and maybe some Zantic.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Thank you Laurel, I need all the support and comfort I can get...sigh.

No Denae, of course not. Just a quart or so of sour mash whiskey...does that have alcohol?

message 2599: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 26, 2011 02:54PM) (new)

Lol...poor Mike. Would you like me to email you a copy of Ghost Story, Sensei?

message 2600: by [deleted user] (new)

I know you're not a pirate but since you did pay for the book and just haven't recieved it, I think you could work through and feelings of guilt you may have ;)
