Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments I've had Princeps' Fury Princeps' Fury (Codex Alera, #5) by Jim Butcher on my shelf forever trying to get a break in my current reads... I'm reading Blood of Ambrose by James Enge from the library right now and have a couple of nonfiction library books to finish to. I'm most of the way through Hard Magic (Grimnoir Chronicles, #1) by Larry Correia . After that I hope to put the Codex Alera books back on my currently reading list.....hope springs eternal they say.

Aloha | 940 comments I've put it in my shelf to read. Now, that is my kind of erotica, the sensual kind. Thanks, Denae. I am in the mood for a good erotica.

The other story in the book is very different. It's still highly sensual, but I've never made it through it. It just isn't my thing.

Aloha | 940 comments Tracey, I did have a deal with Tressa at Horrors that I would feast on all the men before I feast on the women, so you're safe for a while. Before I feast on you, I would feast on Tressa. She has some great marbling. But being a Republican, she is bitter. I might settle for meat that is tough but sweet.

Aloha | 940 comments Denae, I purchased The Butcher: And Other Erotica in hardback for $2.71 including shipping from Amazon. I'm a Prime member, so I get 2 days free shipping.

Aloha | 940 comments You know I will, if I ever get around to reading it. LOL I want to get through the monthly reads challenge in order to have great discussions with people.

Aloha | 940 comments Gawd, tell me about it. Ever since my divorce, a guy lasts only 1 month with me. 1 mos. is when you start to see his flaws. I'm so happy doing stuff on my own, with no obligations to anybody, unless a guy can go with it or add to it, there's no need for him.

Dawn (breakofdawn) I'm totally reading The Warded Man right now. Finally. For real this time. I'm reading it. And I really really like it so far! Why did I wait so long?

message 2666: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Ya...thought I go with a more "overt" hero pic for a while. Maybe I'm reverting to my youth, I was always a Captain America fan.

No I haven't seen the new movie yet, but plan to next week sometime, if possible.

Glad you are digging it Dawn! I'm nearing the end of
Geist now, and have been wholeheartedly LOVING IT.

Am already figuring out where to order the next. Maybe MrsJ and I can buddy read...? =)

Kara (sterlink) | 143 comments Errr, Dawn... I do also have The Desert Spear owned and on my TBR. So, let me know if you can't stop!

You bet!

I still need to read 40 more books before I can buy a new one. O_o

I don't know how that's going to work because I really want to read Spector and Thea Harrison's Serpent's Kiss comes out on August 2nd.

Oh, phhfff. Is that part of the 2011 Reading Challenge? *chuckle*

I just want to live somewhere where I can actually meet some of these authors! Can you imagine a evening with Carriger and Ballantine?

@Mike, the Captain America movie is pretty good. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

On-Topic: I'm about to start Gil's All Fright Diner. It was a rec, and I'm not in a full-series mood at the moment.

message 2675: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments That's a pretty good one, Ala, if you like comedy horror.

I liked it a lot, anyway. Let me know what you think!

message 2676: by [deleted user] (new)

Couple pages in and there's a redneck/hillbilly vampire and werewolf...

Yeah, this has potential :P

message 2678: by Traci (new)

Traci Finished The Rising this morning and I'm a little depressed. I enjoyed it okay, but...what an ugly book. I need something lighter, happier, something that makes me happy to be alive and human. I've been meaning to reread The Hobbit so I'll be starting on that today.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Finished AA - gave it 3 1/2 stars. Definitely liked it better than SoM, but don't feel compelled to run out and get the next two in the trilogy based on it. I probably will do within the year, though, just to get a certain someone off my back about it. ;) (J/K - I like when Dawn's on my back. It's kinda sexy. LOL)

Now I'm starting on Mysteries of the Diogenes Club by Kim Newman. (I love Kim Newman. He wrote one of the best vampire stories I've ever read - Anno Dracula.) It's a short story collection, so I might put it aside to read Hounded once I get it from the library.

message 2680: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) O_o

Hey now... I'm not sure what to say to that! LOL :)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Dropping back a couple of posts...I know Jason, I occasionally stop getting updates on some threads for no apparent reason...

Thanks Ala, I hope to go see it this week.

closing in on finishing the library books, then I can read a couple of the ones I've owned for months...or years...LOL.

Colleen. I don't remember hearing anyone else say they read Anno Dracula- it's one of my favorite books- as were the rest of the series- Newman is a wonderful, literate author. I just read Hounded- IMO a charming, amusing story with a great puppy.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Anno Dracula is a severly under-rated book. Doesn't help that it was out-of-print for awhile there. I didn't like the second as much, but I liked the third.

Some of the characters from The Diogenes Club books made a cameo in AD, and the story I finished tonight made a reference to a contingency plan should the monarch of Britain be overcome by a supernatural consort. ;D

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) L A Banks passed away :( I haven't gotten to read her books yet but I loved her articles on writing. She was witty, fun and definitely a help to so many people. This is so sad :(

I'm literally sitting here with my mouth open. Please tell me you're joking!

message 2690: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments While she was not my favorite author, she was a rather young author and I enjoyed a lot of her work. What I liked about the Vampire Huntress series the most is that when my BFF's mom would yell at me for reading such "goddless garbage" I could always pull out an LA Banks book to show that religion and fantasy don't have to be at odds with one another.

I was too when I saw it posted on facebook MrsJoseph and I immediately wanted to cry. It was just so fast and she's one of several authors who passed away young or lost family members young this year alone :( I need to move her books up in my tbr and buy them so the family will have that much more toward her medical bills.

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 861 comments I'm currently reading God Stalk by P.C. Hodgell. It's an oldie from 1983, but I inadvertantly bought the 3rd and 4th books without realizing they weren't the beginning of the series. Luckily, a friend of mine had the first 2 books and lent them to me.

I haven't read any of L.A. Banks' books, either, but it's always very sad when someone young passes away.

message 2694: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments R.I.P LA Banks.

I haven't read anything by her. Regardless, her illness was sudden and I think it's sad that we've lost her.
