MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I think my thing with Shakespeare is more like overload. I had to take a course in college, pure Shakespeare. I liked it before that...

I believe you mean "Lord willin' and the creek don't rise." I have been known to say this. "High as a cat's back" as well. My grandmother uses the phrase "moving so slow the dead lice are falling off" which I kind of love.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Interesting variations. My mother and grand mothers used the "you're moving (actually movein') so slowly (actually "so slow" instead of "slowly") it looks like the dead lice are (is)fallin' off".

My aunt used to say that!

and

"Moving like molassas in January"

and the best one I've ever heard was by a teacher in Middle school:

"Fast shitting dogs don't last long"

message 1962: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments I always heard "molasses in winter".

Never heard the second.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments We were all like "oooooh! You said a bad word!" LOL

It means something like "a hard head makes a tender behind."

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Finished A Hundred Words for Hate by Thomas E. Sniegoski, and started Uncertain Allies by Mark Del Franco. What would I do without my detective urban fantasy novels? The world would be a sad place!

message 1965: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments It would be a sad world indeed, Lady D!

Valerie (versusthesiren) | 357 comments Almost halfway through Territory - it's kind of slow, but still readable. Not sure what's next, but I flipped through the first few pages of Grunts at a bookstore and decided that I need it in my life. :D

I enjoyed this, despite its obvious derivativeness. I preferred to think of it as a homage. :>

Ha, ha! I'm with you there, Ala! Yesterday, I bought 3 more books and snuck them into the house and on to my tottering bookshelf, hoping my hubby wouldn't notice. *sigh* Books are just so irresistable!

That's what happens when they block Goodreads at work. I can read at work, just can't go online and chat at work. I'm pretty swamped right now. :(

message 1983: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 284 comments Just read a good 400 pages in Paladin of Souls yesterday. I like it even better than The Curse of Chalion which is the best book I've read this year.

message 1984: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 572 comments These two were the first fantasy books by Bujold I'd read. I got hooked on her sci-fi first (Vorkosigan series) but I was blown away by The Curse of Chalion and agree that Paladin of Souls was even better. The third, set in the same world but about totally different characters and perhaps in a different time, I didn't think was as good as the other two, but still eminently readable.

I like the way she has taken minor characters from the first book and built the storyline of the second book around them, referring to the first characters, but the storyline does not depend on them in any way.

I keep hoping she will continue with this series at some point. She's set it up so she certainly could as it's obvious there are more stories to tell. I'd really like to find out what the soldier does with his demon!

message 1990: by [deleted user] (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Ah, lots shooting the bastards in the face?

message 1992: by [deleted user] (new)

Face, head, neck, chest, legs, arms. Plus there's chopping and cleaving and slicing and dicing.

And the guns, man. The guns...

And plenty of explosions.

And the vampires? They only sparkle when they're on fire.

message 1993: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Ka-pow! Someone's getting it in the face and they won't like it. :-P

Ala, I'm glad you're enjoying them! Now you can wait with me for the next book. :-)

message 1994: by [deleted user] (new)

It was all a trap, eh MrsJ? Couldn't stand to wait alone, so you dragged me in with your web of deceit!

I hope the wait isn't too long...

Jason, half way through book 1 you'll realize that you are having a BLAST. A few hours later you'll have to pick up book 2. If' you're really, really strong you'll put off book 2 for (at most) a month.

message 1998: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol I started book 2 about 30 seconds after finishing the first ;)

message 1999: by Laurel (new)

Laurel And it only took you 30 seconds to read the first book... ;)
