Just finished Memory's Child and believe it or not another cliffhanger ending to a book that was otherwise quite readable.I now have a reference list category on my Kindle titled "Never again".
Just finished Torbrek ... and the Dragon Variation which turned out to be a very entertaining read. No real surprises but a deft touch on a classic fantasy theme which made a very entertaining summer readGot this one as a free download and liked it well enough to buy the second of the series, which is sitting pretty much at the top of my virtual TPR stack now.
I am almost done reading Patricia A. McKillip's Ombria in Shadow. It's the first time I've ever checked out any of her works and I've enjoyed the story so far. She's done a wonderful job in presenting this world and this story within a single volume...of course, I still have a fourth of the novel left to go but it's been positive =)Patrick wrote: "Working on The Last Light of the Sun. Guy Gavriel Kay is always nice. With Vikings, it just gets better."
Glad to hear that it's a good book! Been meaning to check it out (been reading to read more of Kay's works actually)
Got tired of the unexpected cliffhanger endings and went to the second of a new series Trav Zander as I'd really liked the first book.Finished it, but unfortunately a disappointment. Not nearly as much fun and the main characters in this one were rather unlikeable except for the dragons. Oh, well ... maybe time for me to go back to the 'old reliable re-reads" for awhile while I wait for the September issue of a couple I know will not disappointment.
MrsJoseph wrote: "Phoenix and Ashes"Interested in your take on this one. I like this series, some much better than others and this particular one was much darker than most.
I am currently re-reading Tolkien's The Two Towers and reading Sergei Lukyanenko's The Nightwatch and Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Idiot

I'll let you know. And I think I can see what you mean so far.
Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "Grave Peril is heavy compared to the earlier books, but it sets up the action for a lot that happens later...and there is humor in it. (Have you gotten to the party yet?)I won't give any spoilers..."
Yes, there were a few funny moments, but IMO if Grave Peril were made into a movie, it would be classified as “horror” rather than a thriller. I have never been a horror fan, and ghosts and demon possession are particularly creepy for me.
(view spoiler)
There are many things about the Dresden Files that I like but also have problems with it which I may address later on in the “Issues you have with books you love” thread. Or would it be better to post in the Dresden Files Buddy Reads Thread?
I'm reading House of Chains the fourth book in the Steven Erikson epic another fantastic readalso The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov

Depends on who you want to answer you--Dresdenites or other people who "have issues with books you love." ;)
Reading The Drawing of the Three and loving it. I don't know why it's taken me so long to read the series.
I really liked that one. Some of his later books in the series get wonky. :)Bé wrote: "I'm reading Silverthorn the third book in the Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist ;)"
Finally getting my SFF mojo back. Haven't really been in the mood for months. Halfway through The Emperor's Edge and really enjoying it. Liking the anti-hero gang of heroes. And the humor.
So glad you are getting your mojo back, Tina! Isn't it funny how book moods go? I'm breaking up my fantasy with mysteries these days
I recently started The Winds of Khalakovo. I'm 10% in but a little confused about what's going on. It's one of those where I feel I missed book 1 but pretty sure this *is* book 1. Not sure I'm going to continue with it.
I'm reading Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson. I'm only just starting but it already seems to be another fascinating world and magic system from Sanderson.
I just finished Deep Shadow for our local book club - a thriller that takes place in my neck of the woods, and very well done. Next up, once I get my hands on a copy will be Jennifer Roberson's finale in her Karavans series, The Wild Road: Book Three of Karavans, which I've anticipated for a very long time.
I started to read The Quantum Thief last week. I hope I'd have more time reading normal books as well, since my studies started to roll again and I have to read lots of course books and other boring stuff and write my master's thesis. So this book maybe one of the last ones I start in a while.
Maarit wrote: "I started to read The Quantum Thief last week. I am going to have to start cutting down the 'fun' books to make way for classbooks.
I recently finished The Black Dahlia and yesterday finished Equal Rites. The last 1/4 of Black Dahlia was excellent and I thought Equal Rites was much better thanThe Color of Magic. I will definitely read more of both series.
Now I'm reading Casino Royale.
Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "Good series Susan. They're not quite as good as his Dresden books but they're good."I am really enjoying it so far.
I'm reading Feast of fools it's a fantastic book and i'd recomend it to any one who like's vampire books :P
Scott wrote: "I recently finished The Black Dahlia and yesterday finished Equal Rites. The last 1/4 of Black Dahlia was excellent and I thought Equal Rites was much better thanThe Color of Magic. I will defini..."
Scott, you really should go back and read the second book, The Light Fantastic in order to finish the second half of the story that began in The Color of Magic.
Kevin wrote: "Scott, you really should go back and read the second book, The Light Fantastic in order to finish the second half of the story that began in The Color of Magic."I plan on going back and reading the Color of Magic one day. After that, I'm sure I'll read the second.
I finished The Map of Time, a reread so I could go straight into The Map of the Sky which recently came out. But then... I noticed The Blinding Knife is out and I've been waiting to read it... so I'm starting my reread of The Black Prism.Gah! How'd I get so behind this year???
I'm also reading The Blinding Knife, which I just got today from Amazon. So far I feel like it is a much more mysterious and better book than The Black Prism.
I am finishing The Wild Ways by Tanya Huff and really enjoying it. This is the second in a series, the first being The Enchantment Emporium but I like this one more.It is a very original modern take on the Fey. I love books that have musician characters who also use music as magic.
The only thing, if you do not like spoilers DO NOT read the inside of the cover! I can’t believe the publishers did this! They wrote about something that you would not have found out about until about a third into the book!
Jalilah wrote: "I am finishing The Wild Ways by Tanya Huff and really enjoying it. As you say, a very different view of the fey which isn't easy to accomplish.
Sharon wrote: "Both of these sit on my re-read shelves, like them both very much. I think I read a vampire series by Tanya Huff a few years ago? Not sure. Right now, I'm catching up with Kvothe in The Wise Man's Fear.
Michael wrote: "Right now I am 3/4 of the way through Shadow's Edge and I am about 100 pgs into The Dragon's Path. When I finish, Shadow's Edge, i will go straight to Ready Player One, which my sister thinks that ..."I have a copy of Ready Player One, too. I need to read it.
I was actually thinking of reading Ready Player One next once I finish Equal Rites. I went to a book signing for Patrick Rothfuss last year and Cline was there, so I picked up and copy and got it signed. I've been meaning to get to it ever since.

I recently saw the movie: it was enchanting (pun intended). Young Anne Hathaway was simply a treasure.
