Kaje Harper I like the Zimmermans, and it's great that they're being re-released.

yes, and the re-release books are price less than 1 dollar!! (only $0.99). of course i grabbed all 5 titles and just started with book 1.

What name do you write under? (I have this bad feeling this will turn out to be a dumb question on my part.)

LMAO! I write as Kari Gregg. ;D

If you're looking for a story with high literary aspirations, you won't get it from me, though -- I write sex-filled, dark, angsty smut. I just work my buns off to write from a different, slightly skewed perspective.

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments I'm struggling with Handyman. There are a few themes I like (age-gap, blue/white collar, second chances) but the two guys speak like a book and they tell the other about their feelings, about the "kindredness" they feel. I don't find it believable, but the story is overall good, but when they talk to each other I tend to skim.

message 5111: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper Um, might not want to admit your generosity on a public forum like this? The temptation to plead poverty is becoming overwhelming...if I didn't already own most of your books, that is.

Charming wrote: "Josh wrote: "I admit that rampant pirating has made me less generous than I used to be. And I hate that I'm becoming...stingy. But it really does chill your enthusiasm when you see books that could..."

I've thought about it.

It isn't even the lost revenue, whatever that might be. It's the self-righteous, blatant anti-social attitude -- very often coming from people who call themselves fans. And who really believe stealing books is somehow doing the author a big favor. I've read these conversations on these sites about how pirating is just promotion. Unfortunately it's promoting the work to people who, by in large, hope to continute to get the stories for free. That's really not a big favor.

Or the sites that take these books and then resell them, for example. There was one the other day advertising that she was selling these books lower than anyone else. Yes. That's because you're not sharing the profits with the person who created the work. And that's okay...why?

Anyway, there's no reasoning with people like that. Some of them are ignorant. Some are genuinely dumb. But most of them just want what they want and they don't care about anyone else's rights or needs.

Which must be a delightfully simple way to live.

They are fun to read; Good books, not great ones. I think they have a lot more competition now and the flaws may be more visible, but back fifteen years ago when they released I really appreciated finding m/m mysteries at all.

Al is delicious. It was like seeing the world through different eyes. It's not a perfect book, I think, there was that part with that brief separation that wasn't very believable, in my opinion, I was expecting something different from Larry, but Al is a wonderful character. It made me think of how jaded we are, we'd be more happy if we re-learned to enjoy the simple things.

message 5127: by Cheryl (last edited Oct 10, 2011 08:05PM) (new)

Cheryl | 232 comments I just finished Submission (Deviations, #1) by Chris Owen . I don't know, I thought it was kind of boring. Maybe that's because nothing is going to live up to my expectations of deviant after reading The Administration Series, or maybe I've just read too many BDSM books already, but mostly I think it's because the dialogue was unnatural, I didn't feel like I got to know any of the characters, and the journey they went through to establish their relationship was kind of murky. And I'd like to know what world these people live in where cops and veterinarians have weekends off.

I've been meaning to read another J.L. Merrow book, but have been caught between Muscling Through and Hairy, Horny, and Over Here. I keep hearing great things about the first, but the title and the chance of a vicious jackalope sighting keep pulling me toward the second.

The print versions have some additional material with more explicit drawings, including full frontal. That's according to my GR friend who has the paper copy. In her words: "extra pages of smutty goodness". :D

She can call herself anything she likes, I just wish to hell she'd get back to writing that New Orleans chef series.

(I shouldn't say that because I know how it feels when readers say that to me about X series -- but it's not that I don't want her to write anything else, I just want her to also finish up that series.)

message 5150: by Candice (new)

Candice Frook (cefrook) | 374 comments I have a rec for Megan Derr fans who like her Regency stories. (If you only like Prisoner and its sequel by her, then, no.) Just read A Wicked Encounter by Sammyjo Hunt. The whole story hangs on a love-at-first-sight beginning; love forever and they don't know each other at all. I didn't think I was going to make it very far into this one.

But, you know, it got better. And of course, young people do enjoy lust and infatuation at first sight, then believing it to be forever. sometimes, it prob turns out to be. In any case, once she got the story rolling along, I did enjoy it. I'm not gifted enough to explain what she did well, but I can say that the beginning made me expect something very silly and kind of dumb. It wasn't dumb, and the story picked up in such a way that I read it through. I even enjoyed the prologue-y chapter at the end.
