The third book is written, just polishing it before submitting (although I think the second werewolf book will be out before it.) I'm afraid there may even have to be a fourth, unless I change the ending of 3. Hopefully readers will bear with me, and I appreciate the encouragement.

Kaje Harper Print copy of which? From MLR the print copy usually comes out about 2 weeks after the ebook. Anyway, if you want more info PM me - I'd be happy to discuss it... tomorrow, as I'm going to bed now. Turning in the short story is enough for tonight.

Oh, I'll always use certain publishers -- I don't want all my eggs in one basket. Regardless of how lucrative the basket is.

I'm continuing to whittle down the list of publishers I will continue to use. But there's no question that publishers -- some publishers -- still bring something to the table even in these days of DIY 70% royalties from Amazon.

Yes, totally awesome. I’m looking forward to more print edition of your works. I already have most of your ebooks and I’m just waiting for rest of them to come out in print. You’re one of the fab fives that I auto buy in ebooks and prints. Please if you do, do print editions, don’t forget the hot bods. 8-)

Thank you! That's flattering. I don't know about hot bods. :-D I'm looking at various photos of men, though. I seem to gravitate toward black and white.

Oh, hell yeah. Starkness makes perfect sense. Hot bods would cheapen the look, though. Intriguing faces and simple images would, I think, be more appropriate (like the covers for Frank Tuttle's Markhat series at Samhain; that model is perfect).

I think black-and-white would definitely suit some of your books. And the covers do stand out amid the color array in a thumbnail.

Ahh, I was thinking of that contest you did a while back for “In a Dark Wood.” The artist did an awesome job with that cover. I know you can’t always have a hot bod on every cover, I just meant once in a while throw your fans some good eye candy 8-) Maybe an occasional tan skin.
;-)

Lastly, I notice there were two WIP titles on your website “Ill Met by Moonlight” and “Shadow on the Sun,” and I was wondering if they are the remaining works slated for this year or something you are working on for 2013? Thank you for any information, Mr. Lanyon.

mc | 1308 comments Tea drinker, here, too. Brewed from tea leaves preferred.

Cookie? Cookie? Nicole, what do you need your henchman to do? Henching sounds a bit more taxing, and potentially violent, than minion.

But a cookie!

Can I part-time hence for you, Nicole, and use the rest of my time to minion for Josh? Then I'd have half a cup of tea and half a cookie.

I don't need minions or henchmen (that's what kids are for, right?) but I do offer homemade biscotti to go with the tea...

message 5321: by mc (last edited Oct 21, 2011 07:01AM) (new)

mc | 1308 comments Calathea, you're on.

I think henching sounds more bodyguard-like. Or intimidation-oriented. Revenge-type work. Weapons carrier. Minion sounds more like a PA (and I think in this crazy crowd, I need to clarify that that's a 'personal assistant,' NOT a Prince Albert. Sheesh). Albeit one that's hunched over and maybe has a twitch. And a maniacal laugh every now and then, that ends up in a fit of coughing.

I'm sadly better suited to minioning, rather than henching.

ETA: And between the two of us, we speak a few languages. That has to count for something.

Thanks for clarifying the tasks!

Maybe we could share them according to our personal competences? So, I volunteer for the fit of coughing, not sure about the maniacal laugh, though... ;-))

I'm sure the languages would get us a bonus of a kind... maybe surgar for the tea?

message 5325: by mc (new)

mc | 1308 comments No sugar necessary for me, though I think if I'm maniacally laughing and you're coughing fitfully, some honey or a couple of Ricola wouldn't be amiss.

Tracy, I had the most awesome pumpkin creme brulee the other night...and you are quite the baker!

message 5326: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracykitn) | 461 comments Thanks! Biscotti are actually quite easy, I think -- they fall more under the category of "time-consuming," along with drop cookies and bread. (yum. bread bread bread. Think I may make some bread today. I have a recipe for pumpkin crescent rolls. Books and baked good just seem to go together, don't they? Especially when you can add in a blanket and a cup of hot tea...)

I'm in for the potluck. I can provide oodles of biscotti and bread! I find baking easier than cooking in general, because it's less frantic. Bread, especially, has an almost meditative quality to it. Whereas just basic cooking always seems like such a rush to have everything done at the right time and the same time. I can do it; I just don't enjoy it as much.

OK, if you're going to drop in with bad taste combinations on a level of a Culvers restaurant signboard (the one near my house currently shouts "Reeses Pieces Tuna Melt") then you still need to define "piquorist" for us.

I avoid Starbucks whenever possible. I like to support indies whenever possible (provided the quality is up to par -- but matching Starbucks isn't difficult). We're trying to eat at fewer chains too. Partly it's to support small business, but partly it's to try and eat something that isn't the same old, same old. It all gets to be so mechanical after a time. Go to the same place and order the same food.

Ill Met is scheduled for late December. If I can drag my weary-ass brain through it one more time. Shadow on the Sun will be more like 2013. I think I'm dragging my feet on that one because it's very complex -- Japanese internment camps, etc. I know I don't have the mental energy to do it justice right now.

So. Reading. Has anyone read The Thirteen Hallows? I'm thinking of getting it in audio and listening to it at night.

Before Books on Tape went out of business (or maybe they didn't? Maybe I did) anyway, I stocked up on all these audio books I have yet to listen to. I've been thinking maybe instead of reading at night I'd listen to an audio book. Granted, I'll probably only listen for five minutes before I'm asleep and the tape is winding on without me.

I can share. I really really can. I just need boxes, addresses, and a little help with postage. Or, y'know, that potluck mc mentioned. :D

Besides, I'm fairly sure tea or hot chocolate are necessary to reading, and what goes better than biscotti to dunk in the hot beverage of your choice as you read?

I'm also willing to share recipes, although this is, I know, not the place for *that*.

And as far as reading? I'm really really having a hard time settling on something. I have a couple of new things I want to read, but my parents came to visit last week and brought the last couple of boxes of my books from their house (only took 12 years or so, hah!) and they're ALMOST all stuff from my early-teenager-dom. So I've been shelving them for my kids, and because I'm quickly running out of shelf-space, trying to pare down. Little to no success with that, sadly, and now I have this desire to spend a month or two doing nothing but glutting myself on Alcott, Montgomery, Sidney, Henry, Blume, Jacques and the other, oh, 50 or so authors whose works are well-represented in the playroom. BTW, anybody want a quite good copy of Roller Skates (Newbery Library, Puffin) by Ruth Sawyer ? I appear to have two. As well as some other books -- Marion Zimmer Bradley and Adriana Trigiani, and possibly some Roald Dahl.

Josh wrote: "Henchmen are easy. We all know that."

You're right. It's easy to get a henchman. It's keeping him that's the hard part. If he's worth anything at all there's always somebody waving a cookie at him, hoping he'll swing his ax for them instead of you.

Sadly, I was forced though the "honor among thieves" clause of the Evil Boss Handbook, to relinquish rights to my Henchie once he got married. Now he henches for another.

I've had one other henchman since Henchie--that one went to Ukraine to hench for the Peace Corps. (I know it sounds like a contradiction in terms, but it really isn't.)

Right now I have two operatives, a gun-for-hire and a protege. The operatives are named Michael and Alan who use their ninja skills silently assassinating proofreading errors. They're my first operatives and it's pretty exciting to be expanding my reach into the operative area.

The gun-for-hire is Ian who, every six months or so, moseys into town, has a showdown with QuickBooks and then rides off to parts unknown.

And the protege is of course Jemma, who is subduing Irregualars. Like a lion-tamer surrounded by big cats, she wields that chair and whip with gusto.

@ mc & calathea

Well, well, well.... Before I hand over my cookie, I'd like to know a little about your henching skills. Do either of you have a weapon of choice? How do you feel about suicide missions? Are either of you allergic to spandex?
