This is the fourth book in Weber's Safehold series, and is not the best of them. This book seems to focus less on the underlying theological problems of the world Safehold. Hopefully, the next in the series will get back to the over-arching story. It is not a must read, unless you are committed to this particular series.

15.6 Eventually All Things...Death With Interruptions (Portuguese author) and The Strongbow Saga, Book Two: Dragons from the Sea (second-longest book)
The copy of Dragons I borrowed from the library is 346 pages, while the first book is 360-something third book is 344. Just thought I'd clarify real quick, since on GR the page numbers for the second and third books are the same.
25.5 Share the Summer Love
By the Time You Read This, I'll Be Dead (genre 1) and The Strongbow Saga, Book Three: The Road to Vengeance (genre 2)
I love YA "problem novels," where something horrible and random and generally morbid is going on like someone dying or going blind or whatever and the characters have to deal with it. Whether this makes me a terrible human being or not remains to be seen. By the Time You Read This, I'll Be Dead, on the other hand, was far from terrible. The protagonist, Daelyn, who has been bullied her entire life, is recovering from her previous suicide attempt and plan for her next--and, she hopes, final--attempt. However, her plans are confounded by the arrival of an upbeat boy with a crush on her and a classmate who keeps her chin high, even when she deals with the bullying that drags Daelyn down. It's an incredible book with an ending left open to interpretation (a la The Giver).
My second-favorite genre is historical fiction, since I love anthropology and most HF novels show what life was like in the book's setting. I can see what it was like to live like a serf from the comfort of my own living room! Yay! Speaking of serfs, there were few peasants in the historical fiction book I read, The Road to Vengeance. The protagonist, Halfdan, was born a "thrall," or the slave of a Viking warrior, but he was freed from servitude by his father, the warrior who previously owned him. Stuff happened in the other two books, and in the third installment (the one I read), Halfdan is part of a Viking raiding party on Frankia (aka France). He's captured the daughter of a powerful French nobleman and plans to ransom her for extreme amounts of cash...assuming he doesn't fall in love with her first or get killed in battle. There's a ton of fighting in this series, but the author isn't as gruesome as he could be, so I could have the series on my classroom shelves.

10.9 Cooking for One: 150 Delicious Recipes to Treat Yourself by Amy WillcockI like to cook and I like to eat a variety of foods. However, I live alone and find that when I cook something, using standard recipes, I have to eat it for days and days. I wanted to learn how to cook single serving meals.
25.5 Favorite GenresYoung Adult. I enjoy this genre because I like the way ideas are presented. Many times the books are easier to read, but the ideas can still be very strong. Also, I am a fifth grade teacher and it is a great way to connect with kids.
Bucking the Sarge by Christopher Paul Curtis. I liked this book a lot. I listened to it and the funny scenes are even funnier hearing them. I don't think it would be a great book for elementary because some of the themes are a little too strong, but it would be good for middle schoolers.
Mystery: I enjoy mysteries because they help me escape. Before this challenge, pretty much all I read are mysteries. Now, I've expanded my reading a little bit, but if I'm ever stressed, I fall back on this genre--plus it often makes me feel like whatever I'm experiencing is not nearly so bad!
Caught by Harlan Coben. Coben's writing is solid and fast-paced. There always seem to be a few holes in his novels, but I can get past them. This is an interesting book about how an accusation can change/ruin your life even if there is no validity to it.

10.3 - Online now. Read Haunted Ground by Erin Hart. This book dragged. It had so much potential but fell short in my opinion. (3*)15.2 - Stars and Stripes. For my star I read Texas! Lucky by Sandra Brown. This was a good romance novel. Had all the criteria. I really enjoyed it. (4*). For my stripe I read Real Murders by Charlaine Harris. This book was good. (4*).
15.5 Great Authors. Read Case Histories: A Novel by Kate Atkinson. This one really fell short for me. I thought that there was alot going on and it didn't connect very well with me. (2*). And from her list I chose Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. I only read the Alice in Wonderland part it was 144 pages long. I really enjoyed it. So different from the movie. (4*)
20.9 - Spirit of Independence. I read Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. I enjoyed this book as much as the first one. I will finish out the series to find out what happens to everyone. (4*) For the second part I watched Juno which was OK for me.
30.1 - Birthdays and Birhtmonths. I was born in April so I had to read about Disasters. I read Earthquakes in Human History: The Far-Reaching Effects of Seismic Disruptions. This book was ok. It discussed several earthquakes in history from Biblical times to 1972. I thought it talked alot about political and other aspects and could have focused on the disasters themselves more (2*).
I was born on a Tuesday so had to read Alternative Fiction. I chose In the Presence of Mine Enemies by Harry Turtledove. This book had an interesting premise but dragged in parts. There was alot of repetition in my opinion (3*)
Erin Hart and Sandra Brown are good reads authors.

25.7 I'm Passionate About ...
My passion is baking/eating desserts, so I read My Life in France as the non-fiction book, and Just Desserts since it has dessert in the title.

5.7-Read something with a mode of transportation on the cover. I read Fried Green Tomatoes and the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially because she goes into much greater detail about some of the more minor characters of the movie. If you loved the movie, you'll love the book!

Why this book is a must-read - Diana Gabaldon’s Echo in the Bone is the 7th in her Outlander series. This series is among my most favorite books. The books encompass several genres. It has very well researched historical-fiction, time-travel, adventure, romance, intrigue, fantasy and paranormal. The books are not a quick reads. There is so much detail, wonderful descriptions and history, that it is impossible to just fly through them, added to this is that all the books are very large(600+ pages) But this epic series grabs you from the beginning and never lets go. Each book is as wonderful as the next. But they do need to be read in order, and each one of them is a MUST_READ.

Krista MACompleted 15.3 Books and Blogs. I read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. This was a book that I actually thought lived up to its hype. The story is well developed and while there are a lot of characters and sub plots, it all gets pulled together very nicely. Lisbeth is a great character who is hard not to love. I will definitely read the next one in the series.

I've found that whenever I add a link, it always shows up at the end of whatever text is in there already. I do the same thing you do, so what I do is copy the link info and paste it where I want it to be, then delete it from the bottom of the post.

25.5 Share the Summer LoveHistorical Fiction: YA and Adult
My first favorite genre is Historical Fiction and I like both adult and YA books. I find that I learn more about the time reading about characters I care about than I would from a nonfiction text. I love putting myself in someone else's shoes and feel like I'm living their lives for the time it takes me to read the book.

The Red Umbrella by Christina GonzalezGoodreads Author
The Red Umbrella by Christina Diaz Gonzalez is a well-told historical fiction version of post-revolution Cuba in 1961. The authenticity comes from the true story on which it is based, her parents journey to the U. S. during what was called Operation Pedro Pan, a rescue and relocation of children of those parents who did not support what was happening to Cuba under Castro.
I was struck by how removed from these events many of us were as we were growing up in the 1960s. I was 7 years old, the exact age of Frankie, the younger brother in this story, and I can’t imagine being uprooted and sent to live in another country with another family in order to escape violence. The story here is gripping and hopeful at the same time. It is highly recommended!

YA Speculative Fiction:
I love all the sub-genres of YA Speculative fiction, but for some reason, I am not as big a fan of the genre when written for adults. I think I love the YA take on it, because it has young characters triumphing over major obstacles. I also enjoy YA romance when it is a part of speculative fiction, because it can be the ultimate fantasy!

Linger by Maggie StiefvaterGoodreads Author
Linger by Maggie Stiefvater met every expectation I had of it! The only downside is that I now have to wait a long time before the third book will come out! There are so many twists explained that I don’t dare describe too much of the story, especially for any of you that may have missed Shiver. It is, again, a werewolf story like no other and both books are highly recommended! In this series, werewolves turn based on the heat or cold of the season of the year. In the cold of winter, the wolf takes over, but as summer arrives, the human form becomes theirs, so everything must be in place for those who turn to exist in both worlds. Not only is romance affected by these strange circumstances, but many of the little details of life that have to be dealt with must also be taken care of by the leader of the pack. You will fall in love with Grace and Sam all over again in Linger, and you might find some new characters to embrace, too. I know I did!

I finished my first task (better late than never).I read The Help by Kathryn Stockett for Task 20.6.
Whereas this book was well-written, entertaining, and made some interesting observations, I don't feel that this book is a MUST READ in the same way that other classics about the Civil Rights Movement are. The book was good but I felt like it lacked a certain depth and the characters/plotlines came across as a bit gossipy. The author tried to inject some historical occurences into the story, but it failed to resonate with me as a powerful text about the Civil Rights or even race relations. Overall, I recommend it as a good read but I don't see it as a MUST READ.

Young Adult-I enjoy YA because they are quick reads but deal with a lot of issues and situations that I do not usually find with regular fiction.

Historical Fiction-I enjoy this because I am a history nerd so it's fun to see real-life people come to life on the page and to see an author's interpretation of events instead of a historian's.
