DREA :) | 12 comments Is there any series that is just like ilona andrews kate daniels series?

message 2: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 367 comments IMO no.

However there are some other good ones out there that I enjoy like Mercy Thompson, Kitty Norville, Sabina Kane, Cassandra Palmer.

message 3: by Ace (new)

Ace | 7 comments Try Faith Hunter's Skinwalker series. Absolutely loved that one!! And I'm totally with Dawn on the Mercy Thomson and Kitty Norville series. Haven't read the other two yet but they're on my shelf :)

Ow... and

Jeanine Frost's Night Huntress series
Rachel Caine's Weather Warden series
Kim Harrison The Hollows series
Devon Monk Allie Beckstrom series

message 4: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 138 comments I don't know if they are like Daniels' works since I haven't read her, but I'll back up the recommendations of Patricia Briggs's Mercy Thompson, Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan, Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville, and Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock on the grounds of their just some really great UF reading.

message 5: by Ace (new)

Ace | 7 comments Joseph... if you liked all of those I have a sneaking suspicion you're gonna love Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels :D

ow.. and drea, perhaps the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson. Just got it so haven't read it yet but the reviews sounded good.

message 6: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 90 comments I agree with all the series named above. I also wanted to add The Better Part of Darkness, Storm Born,Three Days to Dead,Rosemary and Rue,Street Magic,Night Life, Darkfever-to name a few.

message 7: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I agree with many of the above recommendations. Also, have you read the Fever series by Moning? I think you would like that series.

message 8: by DREA :) (new)

DREA :) | 12 comments I LOVE the fever series

message 9: by Foxy Grandma (new)

Foxy Grandma (foxygrandma) | 0 comments If you like Karen Moning and Faith Hunter, you might like Yasmine Galenorn Sister of the Moon series.

message 10: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela (rafahta) | 28 comments I haven't come accross anything as good as Kate Daniels, these are pretty close:
Fever Series by Karen Moning
Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost
All series by Richelle Mead
And I really enjoyed Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill but I haven't heard many people talking about it.

message 11: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 90 comments @Rafeala-you should try Street Magic, by Caitlin Kittredge and Rosemary and Rue by Seanan Maguire. They are both awesome series that have a similar feel to the Kate Daniels series.

Well then Rafaela, then we just have to get it more publicity, because it definately is a good read.

And Crystal is right, Rosemary and Rue is a good choice too.

I read the first one and its definately a series that deserves more attention :)

message 14: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela (rafahta) | 28 comments Thanks Crystal, I've added Rosemary and Rue to my to-read list.

It's a great a read. I've always been a fan of twilight, but after reading Chicagoland Vampires and Kate Daniels, it can't even be compared.

message 15: by Yodamom (new)

Yodamom Jaye Wells, Sabrina Kane series #1 Red Headed Stepchild and #2 Mage in Black are both excellent (IMHO). Her writing reminds me of Ilona Andrews work.

message 16: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 90 comments @Rafaela-Your welcome-I hope you enjoy it. I think the series is great.

@Enjee-I hadn't noticed the same similarities in the series. Sabrina Kane isn't a dhampir per se at least that term isn't used in Wells novels. She's half vampire half mage-which Dory isn't. She isn't crazy like Dory and she has abilities that Dory doesn't. I think they are quite different honestly and I am a fan of both. I will say that Wells writes a darker, grittier novel than Chance does but I wouldn't necessarily say that she is trying to ride on Chance's coattails. Just my opinion :D

@Enjee I have not read Chance's Dorina series only her Cassandra Palmer one, which I liked. I'll have to read those.
@Cystal, Yes she does write a darker novel. maybe that is what draws me to it. I like to visit the dark side, LOL I do enjoy both authors.

message 18: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 90 comments @Yodamom-I enjoy both authors as well. I think they have two seperate writing styles which are both good in different ways.

message 19: by Enjee (new)

Enjee If you like kick-ass snarky heroines like Kate Daniels, then I think the Dorina Basarab books by Karen Chance are similar, and quite good.

Midnight's Daughter (Dorina Basarab, #1) by Karen Chance Death's Mistress (Dorina Basarab, #2) by Karen Chance

message 20: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (needsun) | 4 comments I just finished Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane and thought it had the same feel as the Kate Daniels series. Same kind of kick ass, screwed up heroine.

I am on to the second book now and loving it just as much.

message 21: by Stacie (new)

Stacie H. (staciemh) | 2 comments Rachel Morgan series and the Dresden Files both remind me of the Kate Daniels series as far as plot lines (strong magic users taking on the world with a bit of a mystery storyline woven in). However, the personality of the character of Kate Daniels definitely reminds me of Cat from the Night Huntress series.

message 22: by Melanie (last edited Sep 17, 2010 07:00PM) (new)

Melanie (audiobookmel) I highly recommend the Downside books by Stacia Kane. I love this series.

Jenna Black also has Morgan Kingsley, which has non-corporal demons and the main character is an exorcist.

I enjoy Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld books. They are narrated by different people for each book. I do like some narrators better than others, but I do not regret reading any of them. My favorites are narrated by Elena (who is a werewolf). There is also books narrated by witches, necromancers, half-demons, ghosts and more paranormal creatures.

Rachel Vincent's Shifters series is great. It is about werecats. I love the main character, Faith, she is kick ass.

Last, but not least, Laurell K. Hamilton. She is probably my favorite author. But she seems to be an author that people either love or hate. She has two series. Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter and Meredith Gentry (who is a fae).

I would also like to include, Jeaniene Frost, Kim Harrison, Karen Chance and Patricia Briggs, which have all been mentioned above.

message 23: by Rafaela (new)

Rafaela (rafahta) | 28 comments I just finished reading Spider's Bite and Web of Lies and it remindes me of Kate Daniels, a little bit more steamy on the sex scenes. Gin is also a strong very powerful character. I highly recommnend it.

message 24: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Sep 19, 2010 11:48PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Mercy Thompson is probably semi-close. It's decent, more story up front, no romance right off the bat.

I like Mercy, but prefer a little bit more romance in my stories up front. Vincent's shifter series has a lot of action/story but still has some teaser romance in there. Moning's Fever series has a fun plotline/elements of mystery, although it doesn't have the romance right off, but once it gets there...wowza.

I saw mention of Jeanine Frost/Night Huntress. It didn't read to me like Kate Daniels at all, but it's a fun read nonetheless.

message 25: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) | 60 comments i also thought night huntress wasnt like kate daniels but i do think that its one of the best series out there and that if you like kate daniels you definitely should read the night huntress series.

I have had both of these books on my shelf for like 6 months I need to get busy and read them.

message 27: by Dejsha (new)

Dejsha | 46 comments You should totally start the Allie Beckstrom books by Devon Monk. There are four out with the fifth released in November. Everyone gets better and better!

Magic to the Bone (Allie Beckstrom, #1) by Devon Monk Magic In the Blood (Allie Beckstrom, #2) by Devon Monk Magic in the Shadows (Allie Beckstrom, #3) by Devon Monk Magic on the Storm (Allie Beckstrom, #4) by Devon Monk Magic at the Gate (Allie Beckstrom, #5) by Devon Monk

Do it! They're awesome!

message 29: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Ng | 6 comments I actually preferred Rachel Caine's Outcast Season series to her Weather Warden one, but they go rather well together since they're set in the same world anyway. And Mercy Thompson is an absolute must-read!

message 30: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Jackson (melaniejaxn) | 13 comments As some have already suggested you might like Carrie Vaughn's Kitty books Kitty and the Midnight Hour, or Patricia Briggs ].Moon Called also the Cybermage series by Kelly McCullough. A little more out there is Simon Greene Something from the Nightside and, if you do e [book:The First Book of Dreams: Metropolis|9435915

message 31: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 90 comments I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here but if you don't mind extremely dark then try Stacia Kane's Downside series which starts with, Unholy Ghosts. It's not for the faint hearted. The prtotag has many, many flaws but she is a sympathetic character and the series gets better with each addition.
