Kittiya | 28 comments What do you read when you are waiting for one of your favorite series to come out with a new edition?

I have a handful of authors that I try to keep up with, and for the most part I do. When I do find that I might have free time to read, I catch up in all my favorite series and I'm left wondering what to read next. I happen to love MJ Davidson, Laurel K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Angela Knight, Erin McCarthy, and now Kim Harrison. I'm sure I have more, but these are the ladies that are currently keeping me happy in the paranormal department.
I happen to love to read just about any subject, but as of lately I would like to keep to this genera. Sooo, could you tell me what you like to read when waiting? and a little about it? That would be really nice!

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments When I am waiting for something to come out, mainly from Kresley Cole, JR Ward, Ilona Andrews, Lisa Kleypas, Shelly Laurenston, Julia Quinn, Karen Chance, Sarah Addison Allen. Okay I am going to stop there, but there are a few more! Until I thought about it I didn't realize how many I keep up with!

Anyways whilst I am waiting I generally try to sniff out new series, or reread some of what I already have if it is comig up close to a release date, so at teh moment I am discovering Lara Adrian and Nalini Singh.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I have the first teo Kim Harrison books, but haven't read them yet (got them for 10p in a library sale!) Are they good?

A friend recommend them to me a while back, an well I tend to take my time when reading a new series. So recently I was caught up in my current group of series, and decided to give it a whirl. At first I wasn't sure, But to be honest that's changed I'm reading the 3rd now and I'm hooked. Jenks (who is a Pixies) is my favorite character. It has a touch of humor which I like and appreciate. I would give it a go. Out of your list which would be the 1st you would recommend?

message 5: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) My to-read list is so long, I usually do not have any problem finding anything to read. I am pretty patient waiting for books by my favorite authors (Nalini Singh, Kresley Cole, J.R. Ward, Karen Marie Moning, Richelle Mead, Patricia Briggs, Gail Carriger, Larissa Ione, etc.) and like trying new authors. The pnr/uf market is really popular right now, so new authors/books are coming out all the time. I try to sneak in some regular fantasy, fiction, and some non-fiction in to my reading, but the majority of what I read is uf/pnr.

I like to read Christopher Moore. I look for other series that I might want to read. And I read short stories.

Oh you know it! Does Christopher Moore's series have a bit of humor? I have always wondered. I also like to read short stories, anthologies are the best way to discover new (to me anyway) authors.

Nita (gillnit) Kittiya wrote: "Out of your PR authors who would be the first recommendation? "

I would recommend Kresley Cole. Her books are funny, sexy, and sweet. The guys in her books are hot! The first book in the series is the short story The Warlord Wants Forever, which can also be found in the anthology Playing Easy to Get.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I would say either Kresley Cole or JR Ward if you are looking for some PNR. Ilona Andrews if you are more into UF. Sarah Addison Allen if you want some contemporary fairytale like romance and also family dynamics. And everyone shoud read Shelly Laurenston just because her books are so fricking hilarious and crazy!

But if I wanted to pick just one it would be, Ilona Andrews? Ummm Kresley Cole... No! J R Ward, actually Sarah Addison Allen. Okay I just can't decide! I think it depends on my mood!

Would love to do that, Heck I used to do that. But I have a 6 yr old and a full plate... so free time is hard to come by. I usually go to the library. Mostly what they have on the shelves I've read. But thank you!

That's such a good ideal, I've had 3 of my author come out with hard cover the same day, I'm on a super tight budget so just choosing one was torture.

VA is one of my favorite book series. I love it because it's face paced (seriously, from the very being, you literally hit the ground running) and has so many different layers and elements to it. Rose (the main character) is really feisty, spirited, and down right bad ass. She's about the farthest thing away from "a damsel in distress" you could imagine. She can be petulant and stubborn at times, but the evolution of all the characters throughout the series really does make it unique (in my opinion).

There's mystery, suspicion, romance, folk lore, comedy, fantasy, etc, elements to the books, therefore, it's quite diverse in that respect.

I don't want to give anything away about the plot lines themselves, but they always have an "epic" feel to them. There are some pretty dark moments, but the humor and sarcasm that the characters bring make it a fun ride.

I could probably go on and on and fangirl over how much I love this book series, but needless to say, I'm quite fond of it haha.

Angela (angbens) | 343 comments I read:

Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, Charlaine Harris, Richelle Mead, P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Shayla Black, Pamela Palmer, Lara Adrian

There are more, but that is what popped into my head right now

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments Kittiya- I would say read her Magnus pack ones first It starts with Pack Challenge. But I don't think that is her best series, chronologically it is just seems to be where it starts, as all her books are have are set in the same world and characters will pop up every now and then. She also writes under G.A. Aiken and her dragon series is really funny, her male characters push arrogant to the extreme, it is hilarious.

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 173 comments I usually start and finish little series while I'm waiting for a new book from one of my few favorites. For example, I am currently waiting on The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld, #6) by Gena Showalter so I've started Desire Untamed (Feral Warriors, #1) by Pamela Palmer , The Smoke Thief (Drakon, #1) by Shana Abé , and The Pirate Next Door (Pirate, # 1) by Jennifer Ashley . :)

Yesenia Hernandez (yeseniagoodreads) | 40 comments I reread Lords of the Underworld, Vampire Academy or Narcissus in Chains by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Rayna i try to find a new series to read while im waiting for y other books to comeout! i just finished the Shifters series by Rachel Vincent and it was awesome....i reccomend it to anyone! im actually online now trying to figure out which one i want to start next!!!! Any suggestions? i would rather a shorter series because i am pretty busy in the summer and books that have like 10 books already for me to read will cause me not to get my work done! reading over work...no contest!

I would recomend Ilona Andrews Magic Bites series. It's only 4 books in, so it won't be that hard to catch up. Or Gail Carriger Parasol Protectorate series. It's only 3 books in, if you like a more historical-ish PNR.

I haven't read Ilona Andrew's "Magic Bites" series but I tried "On the Edge" and I liked it a lot. When I'm waiting for a new book of my favourite writers I usually go back to my older favourites. I also find myself checking the homepages of the writers more and more frequently - waiting for new bits. Unfortunately some of the homepages are wayyyy old. But some like Nalini Singh, Gena Showalter or Ilona Andrews keep them wonderfully updated.

message 41: by Tobin (new)

Tobin | 19 comments While Im waiting I try to read something a little different so that I'm not thinking about the similarities. Sometimes that means picking up a YA series like Perfect Chemistry and Rules of Attraction - both are very good, or I stick with the adult genre and get away from the mythical creature end and read something like Outlander - which Im reading right now and am surprisingly enthralled by it. Like someone else said, from basically January on I was seriously wrapped up in waiting for Lover Mine, and so when parts of the book didn't live up to my expectation, I was a little turned off by that - but it was really a lot to do with my near obsession with it coming out. I just keep a calender on my mac and check it every once in a while and try to find something new in the meantime!

message 42: by Miri (new)

Miri (miriamarosen) | 33 comments Right now I'm waiting for Clockwork Angel(Infernal Series #1), City of Fallen Angels (Immortal Series #4), Secret and Shadows (13 to life #2), The Iron Queen (Iron Fey #3), MockingJay (Hunger Games #3), Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy #6, hopefully last and final) So while I'm waiting for these books I start a new series where most of the books are already out probably going to start into Wicked Lovely Series as well as The Immortals just waiting to get them from the library.

Caramelle | 106 comments Um...I go onto Goodreads and find out what other recommendations are mentioned related to what I'm reading and waiting for.

I'm 'patiently' waiting on the next books from following series:
Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter/Dream Hunter/Chronicles of Nick series
Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires series
Karen Marie Moning's Fever Series
Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress/NH World Series
Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments & Infernal Devices Series
J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood Series
Larissa Ione's Demonica Series

While waiting (and with amazing luck that my bookstore had a major sale)
I managed to purchase the following series:
The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter Heart of the Dragon (Atlantis, #1) by Gena Showalter Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong Nightlife (Cal Leandros, #1) by Rob Thurman
I've finally decided on what to read next. Woohoo!

That way I can do research for my own book while I'm waiting for a new book by a fav author to come out :0)

message 46: by BinChic (new)

BinChic | 4 comments When I am waiting on the next book in the series that I am reading (and I have soooo many series on the go right now that I actually think I have forgotten to watch out for some of the "nexts" lol) I do a couple of things to pick my next book....

1. I spend a lot of time at my local Shopper's Drug Mart waiting on prescriptions, so I'll pour over their small book section. I have found some great books there! I actually bought and read Laurell K. Hamilton's "Blood Noir" (book 16 in the series) and then HAD to buy ALL the rest!

2. I check out the Kobo site (I got an eReader for my birthday) and see if they have any cheap or free books that pique my interest; or

3. I call my best-friend/book buddy and she brings me a stack of her books that I haven't made it through yet... and brings back the 20+ books that she borrows from me at a time!

My favorites right now are Laurell K. Hamilton, Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Vincent, PC Cast, Cassandra Clare, etc, etc, etc

marjorie (twilightsmaggie) | 16 comments personally, I keep a look out for new series by keeping up with my groups on GOODREADS. I have found so many series by checking out other peoples requests even ones I have overlooked because of different reasons. I have just recently started ordering books online and good grief what a relief it is on my money. When a new book is about to be released, in one of my series, I reread the entire series to kill that time. Depending on the series and how many times I have already done this. Sometimes I have been rereading them for years so I don't go back to the beginning but I at least skim through those first books.

message 48: by Belinda (new)

Belinda Boring (thebookishsnob) I keep an eye on when the new books come out (in my old phone I'd schedule them in so I'd get a reminder)and in the meantime look for new ones. It can get kind of nuts keeping track of everything.
I do have a question though because I have this problem ALOT. When the next book in a series is released do you begin reading it or do you go back and reread the series? I finally got Cast In Chaos by Michelle Sagara and I'm stuck. It's been a while since I read the books and worry that I won't remember what happened. BUT I'm so impatient and want to read book 6 now.
What do you guys do?

message 49: by Sandra J (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 451 comments I just go ahead and read the new one. Usually by the end of the first chapter my memory is up to speed, especially if I've reread the other books. And if I like a book, it's not unusual for me to read it two or three times in a row before going on to something else.

message 50: by Irene (new)

Irene Hollimon | 182 comments While I'm waiting for another installment of my favorite series, I just keep looking around for other authors I can add to my series list.
I'm particularly stuck on series books. I get bummed out when I find out a series is ending.
I find new books by looking at the bookshelves of the groups I'm a member of on Goodreads and there is also an "If you liked this, read this" website I go to. That's how I found one of my favorite series- chicagoland vampires. Ah I have to wait until next year for a new one!
