OK, here's my initial list. I'll start with the four from your TBR stack.

1. A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. Read this book. It is a definite funny book. You could read You Suck: A Love Story first. But no need really.

2. Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Gaiman Neil is fabulous.

3. Succubus Heat by Richelle Mead. I see that you've enjoyed the previous ones. Why haven't you continued? Maybe you just need a little push.

4. World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks. I've actually recommended this before in a pick it for me challenge and it was well received. You can't go wrong with this.

As for new books, I have a few of those as well:

1. Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie. I know you are not much for contemporary romance, but since it does take place in SW Ohio and the author is from central Ohio and you live in SW Ohio...

2. Pandora's Star by Peter F. Hamilton. If you like hardcore SF and would like to read one of the best duologies that I have ever seen, you have to read this (followed by Judas Unchained of course). You will not be disappointed.

3. Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. SF with a good bit of humor. The protagonist's name is Hiro Protagonist if that tells you anything.

4. Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore is both irreverent and funny. A very worthwhile read.

OK, there are my eight. I honestly think that you'd like all of them. At least I hope that you would. I've read all but the Succubus book (I've only read the first in that series so far). Let us know which you pick!

From your TBR list:
The Shining by Stephen King
Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
Animal Farm by George Orwell

Other Recommendations:
Blue Bloods by Melissa de La Cruz
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows
The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason
Trouble in High Heels by Christina Dodd

I think it's a fairly ecclectic selection of books and I hope you find something from it that you wholly enjoy. :^D

Heya Nairabell, It's so nice to meet ya...
Okay, I saw your list. Niiiccce. I'm kinda new with the Good Reads group (1 month) so my TBR is not so much. I'm still trying to find some good books to add to my list. Paranormal romances are great, but there are other romances that I'd like to read (IR, Erotica,Fantasy etca)... I'm having some challenges in getting my hands on some good books. Dragonswan for example, (dying to read to finish my Sherilyn kenyon books) but I am the millionth person on the hold list at my library. "Touch the Dark" is now one of the books for a May challenge (so glad for your opinion on that book...it has been hard to pick it up!) And I will definately take a look at "I'm the Vampire, that's Why", Even the title sound hilarious. I will go through your list and post my recommendations for ya shortly. Please don't worry it I do not respond during the day...I am an insomiac! I do my best work at night. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink... Later! : )

Hi Shelley!

Thanks for the great recs! I'm going to go with Something Borrowed. I own this book and just haven't read it yet. I've added Just One Of The Guys to my TBR.

Hopefully I've picked something you like. If not, let me know and I'll gladly pick again.

TBR
Wicked Ties by Shayla Black
Stolen Fury by Elisabeth Naughton
Deal Breaker by Harlan Coben
Passion by Lisa Valdez (I've heard a lot of good things about this book).

NEW
I love Lora Leigh's Breed series. Its an addiction of mine. I liked Megans Mark, but there are quite a few in the series that are much much much better. I'm going to suggest you read Elizabeth's Wolf (Breeds, #4). This is one of my favorites in the series, if not my favorite in the series. If you like this one then I'd suggest going back and reading the entire series in order.

I love Judith McNaughts Westmoreland series. I've noticed that you've read the first 2 in the series. So, I'm going to suggest that you read Stephens story Until You. I loved it. I actually liked this love story more than Whitney, My Love storywise.

I'm recommending Dark Lover by JR Ward more for the overall series than the book itself. I really loved the second book a bit more and am currently reading the 3rd (better so far than both). I think this book and series is worth reading.

If you're in the mood for a new suspense book- I'm recommending I'm Watching You by Karen Rose. I know that it won a RITA award and apparently its suppose to be a little different as romantic suspense books may go.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments ♦Jennifer♦ I'm having a hard time deciding which of these to choose. So I'll give you my thoughts and you tell me which I should read.

Read
1. Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh - Sounds great! I've been meaning to try this series. I just haven't yet. I'm sure I will sooner or later.
2. Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh- Sounds good too.
3. Born of Nightby Sherrilyn Kenyon- always liking the sci-fi romance aspect. I do like me some hard SF.
4.Shadowfallby James Clemens- Been awhile since I've read any epic fantasy. Although I really should pick up the last two books of the Wheel of Time saga if I'm going to go that route.

New
1. Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione- This is certainly the front runner for me. Reviews look GREAT and the demon idea is pretty cool.
2. Show No Mercy by Cindy Gerard- The reviews don't make it seem like this is the one for me.
3. Coming Undone by Stephanie Tyler - I read this last year before I joined GR. I know I did not go back through and post ratings and reviews for every book I have read. I just don't have that good of memory. I've read 10-20 books a month pretty much since I was 10. I'm in my 40's now. I hang out at libraries, bookstores, and other literary based websites. If I listed every book that I've read and everything that sounded good in my TBR, I'd be at the listing for a month minimum!
4.Amorous Liaisons by Sarah Mayberry- I've read a few of her Blaze books and they are generally decent. But I think I want something more for the challenge.

So there's my thoughts on the books from quick perusal. Now pick one and as long as I can get it, I'll read it.

Jen (jlkish) (jlkish) | 30 comments J. Bug,

This is my first time with this sort of challenge, so hopefully you'll enjoy these picks. We seem to have some similar tastes, so I've picked some of my favorites.

Off Your TBR:

1. Moon Called by Patricia Briggs (urban fantasy with shapeshifter/werewolves; I consider it similar to Kelly Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series)

2. Naked in Death by J.D. Robb (great mystery and romance combined)

3. Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton (I'd recommend the first 3 of this series but then the tone completely changes from urban fantasy/mystery/romance into erotica...not that I haven't read every single one of them) ;)

4. Fangs For The Memories by Kathy Love (great snarky humor, vampires, and romance)

New To You:

1. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (I recommend this series to anyone who liked the Twilight Saga)

2. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (this has been 1 of my all-time favorites for years - amazing blend of historical, romance, and time travel... similar to The Time Traveler's Wife I'd say)

3. The Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen (really good stand-alone suspense/mystery)

4. How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks (comedic vampire romance... similar to the Argeneau series)

Hope at least 1 of these works for you! :)

We have so much books in common in our TBR and in our shelves that I hope you`ll like some of my suggestions.

From yout TBR:

If Angels Burn - I really like Lynn Viehl and her take on vampires! This is the first book, and although it´s not my favorite in the series, it explain much of what is to come...

Witch Fire - I saw that your read others in the series, but this one is great!

Harmony's Way (Breeds, #8)- i love Lance!

Now some authors that I didn´t see in your shelves and that I think are very good:

Forget Me Not- First book in a Navy Seals serie that are very good and with great characters.

Passion - I see you like historicals and this one is wonderful and Hot! Passion and Mark will make you love and cry and sigh...

Broken Wing- this book is also historical and brings a character very different: the hero is a male prostitute and have a very difficult life!

Slave to Sensation - I see you like Nalini´s Guild Hunter Serie. This one is very good too and is about shape-shifters and a race with mind powers and no feelings. It is one of my favorites!

Hey Jim, Pleasure Unbound is what seems to catch your fancy the most. Why not try that one? I'll be interested to know what you think because this is one of those books that I've been meaning to read myself.

All your suggestions are great too! I'm not usually into Contemporary Romance, but Welcome to Temptation looks like a winner. And my TBR pile has just grown by a couple of books.xD As for the succubus series I've been trying to draw that one out. I've read all of Richelle Mead's writing but those last few. And since I really like her I don't want it to be a case of me having to wait forever for the next book to come out.

I think I'll try some Christopher Moore.Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal sounds great!

message 165: by Sherrill (last edited Apr 30, 2010 09:14PM) (new)

Sherrill Natalie:

Hopefully I did my homework well enough to give you something that may not be on your radar.

From you TBR list:

The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter Lordy, lordy...how can evil be so yummy. A good book that kept me surprised.

Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3) by Richelle Mead I can only say that Richelle Mead is one of my favorite writers. I have enjoyed this series so much and hope you do too.

The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa I love stories of fae, fairies, and mystical beings...another wonderland of unknown characters will appear.

Captivate (Need, #2) by Carrie Jones The second book of the Need series, which I just finished this past week. Another one of my favorite writers, Carrie Jones has not let me down.

Off your radar of lists:

Austenland by Shannon Hale With no vampires in this book, how good can it be? I actually enjoyed it and love the characters that developed.

A Version of the Truth by Jennifer Kaufman Again, nothing to take a bite out of you...but the young lady in this book keeps adding to her version of the truth until it spirals out of control. What I would refer to as quirky.

The Hollow by Jessica Verday I loved this book. Though several questions were left unanswered, there are ghostly visions that appear and moments of uncertainty...add a touch of a fog filled night and you will find a good read.

Legend by Jude Deveraux An oldie, like me, but a goodie. A bit current day and then your are whisked away to Legend. I sucked this book down in one day when I purchased it.

Happy reading and let me know what you think.

Sherrill

Ѽ Cher Ѽ | 168 comments Hello Nairabell, I went through your TBR file and girl...your file is big. I notice we have just a few books in common. Here are my recommendations. Your feedback is so welcome.

From your TBR List
1. Hush, Hush ~ Becca Fitzpatrick ( The review on this book really drew me in. I have not read it yet, but it is one at the top of my list)

2. Date Me, Baby, One More Time ~ Stephanie Rowe (Just the title makes me smile)

3. Slave to Sensation - Nalini Singh ( Another series & author I`d like to read too)

4. Sunshine - Robin McKinley (This book was on my TBR too. It was highly recommended by THE VIXENS` blog...They have recommended some serious books that I truly enjoy reading. I trust their opionion on goodreads.)

NEW To You
1. The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins (I can`t believe you do not have this on your list! It is a YA novel but such a good trilogy, I suggest you get the audio CD`s but I really, really got into this book big time!)

2. The Choice - Nicholas Sparks ( If you are not familar with Nicholas Spark novels...(The Note book, A Walk to Remember) you should know it`s always a tear jerker. This one sure has the same feeling but it was so not what I thought as I read it, it just filled me up at the end.)

3. A Hunger Like No Other - Kresley Cole ( Another one of my favorite author. If you want a variety in your underworld beings, the lore is where you should go. You will find HOT, strong, sexxy men and vicious, beautiful killers for women!) Love this series!

4. Kiss of Midnight - Lara Adrian (I know you`re familiar with BDB series by J.R Ward. This series has been referred to as BDB Lite. There are characters and storyline similarities but this is a likeable series. Less unnecessary profanity. Read with an open mind.)

Hope you enjoy! Cheers!!! ;)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Melanie,

It was fun running around your GR shelves. You have a pretty eclectic selection, so I'm going for the same theme in my recommendations. The only common denominator is that each book has a HEA at the end.

From your TBR:

1. Naked in Death by JD Robb. (I'm currently on an In Death series binge, so I can't help but recommend this one. Curious to see what is your take on Eve and Roarke.)

2. It Had to Be You by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. (Outrageously funny mixed with poignant scenes, the first book in her Chicago Stars series is a keeper, IMO.)

3. Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione (Now who can't resist a sexy demon? Not me...and I hope not you, either.)

4. The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum (I know it's not typical romance, but this book has an HEA. Forget the Matt Damon movies, doesn't even come close to the book.)

Something new:

1. Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh (An interesting world where humans, shifters and Psy (individuals who have tried to eliminate emotions from their make-up) exist. Plenty of intrigue and romance.)

2. Eternal Pleasure by Nina Bangs (another series with a warrior-band theme fighting the end of the world but with a slight twist...that's for you to find out. : )

3. The Stranger I Married by Sylvia Day (a hot historical with an unconventional heroine...just yummy.)

4. Causing Havoc by Lori Foster (A sweet contemporary romance that will make you laugh and swoon)

Hope at least one of these books will interest you.

Ok, here it goes...

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card The Duke And I (Bridgertons, #1) by Julia Quinn Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh
From your TBR
- The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
- Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
- The Duke And I by Julia Quinn
- Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson One for the Money (A Stephanie Plum Novel, #1) by Janet Evanovich Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels, #1) by Anne Bishop The Secret (Medieval, #1) by Julie Garwood
Other Suggestions
- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
- One for the Money by Janet Evanovich
- Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop
- The Secret by Julie Garwood

I hope you'll be able to find something you'd enjoy!
Happy reading :)

TBR: I haven't read any of your tbr so I'll just pick randomly :)

Bitten by Kelley Armstrong - this is on my tbr too :)
It Happened One Nightby Stephanie Laurens
Cravings by Laurell K. Hamilton
Blood and Iron by Elizabeth Bear

New:
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris - based on your bookshelf I think you'd like this.
Tithe by Holly Black
The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter - interesting rewrites of classic fairy tales thought you might like this as you have read quite a lot of short stories and you seem to like fairy tale adaptations.
Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton - i haven't read the Meredith Gentry series yet but I thought you might like this series.

Hope you find something here that appeals to you :)

Katherine (kebrand0112) Hey Sandy! Sorry I haven't gotten this done sooner.

I'm just going to jump in with picks from your TBR

1. Her Fearful Symmetry. I read this book last year and really enjoyed it.

2. Dead Until Dark. I began reading this series after True Blood started, and enjoyed both the show and the novels.

3.A is for Alibi. This was a quick read for me.

4. Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Interesting twist on the story.

Okay, now for recommendations I've had to come up with all by myself. :)

5. I noticed you had a lot of classics on your read shelf, and I found The Picture of Dorian Gray and Three Stories a favorite.

6. A Certain Slant of Light. A wonderful book. I wish the author had more novels than she does.

7. Based on your rating on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Dragons of Autumn Twilight might interest you.

8. And now, my last recommendation, Alice I Have Been. A fictional biography based on the life of the girl who inspired Alice In Wonderland. It uses facts to build it's story, and flows so well, I read it almost in one sitting because I got so caught up in the story.

Happy Reading! If you need more recommendations, please let me know.

I love book recommendations! I think I will go with The Kite Runner now, and save the rest for future reading! Thanks!

Desperado (lethallovely) | 822 comments Thank you very much for your recs Regina & I hope you enjoy your pick(s). After checking the local library I've decided on If Angels Burn. I'd decided to read the first book in the Darkyn series last as there is no love lost between me, Alexandra & Michael. But your recs have convinced me to suck it up & put on my big girl pants, so to speak. I've requested it, & it should arrive at my local library by the end of next week. I'm also going to look into Singh's Psy-Changeling series since I keep getting beaten over the head with how awesome it is.

Rossy does that mean I've missed a post from Kassa? I haven't seen a post since that message but wanted to make sure I didn't miss one. :)

Rossy, I'm available if you need someone to give out recs. By the way, I love the rules- 4 and 4!

I got so confused as to what the asterisks on the picklist meant I thought I'd missed something. So I've deleted the alternate list I'd posted (should have refreshed the screen before I posted it).

Oh well, at least I'll get it right if I try again next month!!!

Hi Katherine. I have added lots of books to my TBR shelf based on what I see on the RRRC threads. I just joined this group a couple of months ago and it's been fun to step out of my comfort zone! I think I will read A Certain Slant of Light. It's available the local library and I am planning to take my daughter there today anyway. I'm glad you chose The Kite Runner. It's a very powerful story that has stuck with me. This is on my top 10 all time favorite list, so I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. Hope you have a great month of reading!

Thank you Gigi! I'll make a note of it in case we need it.
If you want, you can pick a book for me from my TBR pile. I'm not participating this month but i need a few books to place a few Dares. Since i can't make up my mind which to use, perhaps you can.LOL
