Here are some good dystopian/post-apocalyptic books that I have read recently and enjoyed: "Article 5" by Kristen Simmons, "The Other Life" by Susanne Winnacker, "Delirium" and "Pandemonium" by Lauren Oliver, and "The Hollows" series by Amanda Hocking. Hope some of these will turn out to join your favorites..Although I don't anything will ever be as good as "The Hunger Games" haha..haven't heard of Chaos Walking

I read the sneak peak to the next book Insurgent. I think they're going to talk about the fences and why they were put up.

Agreed! I really liked Unwind. I think I may have under rated it though...I'll have to go check that out and maybe do a re-read.

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 732 comments Finished Spell Bound (Hex Hall, #3) by Rachel Hawkins last night. It was okay. I don't think it was as good as the first two.

Started Stolen (Women of the Otherworld, #2) by Kelley Armstrong .

Yeah, I got tired with the complicated fantasy world of Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning for a while, and decided to read some realistic fiction. This seemed interesting and strange, so I decided to read it. I'm almost finished, and I know that it's wrong, but it still breaks my heart. 3

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 732 comments Wellll some people thought the protag was annoying until she goes all kick ass, but she never bothered me one bit. I thought she was funny. And I loved all the other characters. I think I need to do some re-reads of my favorites!!

Perfection *Sherlock's Girl* | 11 comments Have you read Wildefire (Wildefire, #1) by Karsten Knight ?? Incredible book... I looooved it!!!

I finished Spell Bound (Hex Hall, #3) by Rachel Hawkins last night too. I'm going to miss Sophie and her snarkiness but I hope the author just leaves the series alone and doesn't continue it.

Perfection - You must read the Fever series! It's most excellent!

message 2617: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberlynnee) | 26 comments These groups have made me realize I have read so little lol I wish I would have read more as a teen.

A Discovery of Witches I will finish this damn book! It has to be a million pages, Im only 3/4 of the way through.. I'm not super into it so I tend to read a lot slower. This book is getting a big fat review from me when I'm done..

Room is next on my list. Something had better happen in this book lol

I can’t wait to get to this book! I’m glad you liked it, which encourages me to get on with it already. It's on my book shelf taunting me. Daring me even, but I have a huge TBR list and every time I think I have it under control the Library will send notifications that my holds are in and wow I had no idea I had so many on hold. I just can’t make myself skip them and get in line again. Reading is one of the few things I do that when I say “I have to go read” it feels almost like an oxymoron. Yet I do, I do need to go read.

Teralee - I just looked at some of the books that you have read and here are some YA PNR series that I would recommend:

The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Half-Blood (Covenant, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Significance (Significance, #1) by Shelly Crane Blood Will Tell (Warriors of Ankh #1) by Samantha Young Destiny Binds (Timber Wolves Trilogy, #1) by Tammy Blackwell

Still reading "Envy" from the Luxe series - haven't read much because I'm mainly reading The Raven Saint (Charles Towne Belles, #3) by M.L. Tyndall

Bridget (bridgethw) | 52 comments I am reading Beautiful Chaos (Caster Chronicles, #3) by Kami Garcia . As well as listening to Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) by Gayle Forman , which I have read before but since I had the audio on my iphone while stuck at the Dr... well I just really loved this book and If I Stay. For some reason Adam just really "sings" to me :-) and the audio makes the story even better.

Perfection *Sherlock's Girl* | 11 comments Bridget- How are the Casper Chronicles? Heard a lot about them.
Bluemoon - Well as long as he gets better I'll try to deal with it.
Next up is probably The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch

Bridget (bridgethw) | 52 comments Hi Perfection, Ok up front I like paranormal fantasy stuff. I like escape. That said, I really liked the first book, I listened to the second book and really enjoyed hearing the southern dialect and now that’s how I hear the characters while I read. I read the novella Dream Dark and recommend that everyone reading the series check it out. Now on book 3 and I can honestly say I am not getting bored with them. I feel like the story is progressing very well and the focus has changed a bit but I like when all the characters get their moment to shine. I think I like this one the best so far although the novella was pretty great too. The size of the books was intimidating to me at first (only because I have lofty reading goals this year and less free time) but they don’t read slow so that’s a plus too. I'm not sure what you prefer to read but if you like the first book you will like the series because it just gets better.

I liked Beautiful Creatures, but I did not like Beautiful Darkness very much, so I stopped reading the series :(

Amber (amberlynnee) | 26 comments A little more than half way through A Discovery of Witches I gave up, for the time being anyway.
I am now taking a stab at We Need to Talk About Kevin I find that reading this book is making me grouchy. How depressing. Kind of like the way my vocabulary changed when I started watching Game of Thrones, lol. But I am going to finish it.

As I said earlier, I did not like Discovery of Witches.

message 2632: by Bridget (new)

Bridget (bridgethw) | 52 comments Nicole I think Beautiful Darkness was just that, Dark. Not only did the characters “go dark” which is a term used by Ethan even now, but the story went dark as well as the setting, if that makes sense. If you ever try it again and get through it (maybe audio?) then Dream Dark and Beautiful Chaos are better, at least I think so. I guess it all depends on what kind of books you like.

Oh, maybe it was too dark for me. When I saw the synopsis of Beautiful Chaos, though, I thought that the story looks like it's going in circles, so I didn't read it anymore. And I hated that (view spoiler)

Heidi have you checked out Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John ? The Disenchantments sounds a bit more "coming of age" by the description but they both have music in common.

I did read Five Flavors of Dumb. I liked it very much and I liked the music it referred to (Nirvana and Hendrix) and how it is explored by the teens in this book. As for the audiobook issue, that is weird. I have been having all sorts of trouble with the site for days now. It’s frustrating, I tried to report it and even the “contact us” was defunct. I hope they figure this out soon.

Perfection *Sherlock's Girl* | 11 comments BLUEMOON: Oooh Mediator series is by far the best series by Meg Cabot. I detested Princess Diaries and Airhead[couldn't even finish the latter]. But the Boy series and Mediator are really good.
And about Numbers.. Ah i see. Hopefully I'll find it soon. (Y)

I have really enjoyed The Mediator series Bluemoon. I read Meg Cabot like I read my cozies - when I want something light. SO far I've read the entire Princess Diaries series, Avalon High, Airhead series, All American Girl, and the Heather Wells series--- which has a bonus of being a cozy mystery series! I think the Mediator series is the best of them (I did like the Heather Wells series too though). Up next I plan to start her 1800 Where R You series. :)
