Chachic I am currently reading Ballad: The Gathering of Faerie.

Hey Amy, I really liked the Darkangel series. I think the best in that one was the second book but I haven't had a chance to reread.

I created a Poison Study thread so we can talk about the Study books there. :)

Whenever I'm at the bookstore, I always see that series. I would usually hold it and try to decide if I should buy it. It's just now that I've heard someone says it's good.

I am reading Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder right now. And I recommend I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak on audiobook.

Bluemoon - I just started PS, but I already like it. I hope to read more tonight and tomorrow. We watched Sherlock Holmes last night, so I had no time to read.

message 55: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 14 comments Like Shannen, I highly recommend Water for Elephants. It's just a great story, and the main character, Jacob, is so lovable (whether at age 23 or 90...or is it 93? hehe). Pick it up ASAP :)

I've just began The Girl with Glass Feet by Ali Shaw , by Ali Shaw. I loved the cover and the story seemed very interesting. It's a fantasy novel, and got high ratings :) I'm only three chapters in, but so far, it's intriguing! :)

message 56: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Sophie, that book really has a beautiful cover! Let us know if the inside is just as good.

message 57: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 14 comments It's not YA, sorry. But I guess it could be, the main characters are in their early/mid-twenties. It has fantasy and a love story. I haven't read today, I'm going to tonight (I love snuggling in bed with a book when the husband is busy watching sports on TV lol)

I'll tell you more about it ASAP. :)

Bluemoon - I was disappointed in Sherlock Holmes. It tried too hard to be an action movie and had WAY too many pointless action scenes. It barely had a mystery and did not develop the characters very well, especially the female leads. However, I loved both RDJ and Jude Law - they were both excellent. I would recommend reading the Beekeepers Apprentice instead. It is more of mystery and I learned a lot about Sherlock Holmes from it.

message 59: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I actually don't read Holmes. I did a long time ago, but liked Agatha Christie more. Either way, I loved RDJ in it :)

message 60: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 14 comments Ok, I thought I would give you an update on my reading of The Girl with Glass Feet.
Well, I haven't finished it yet, I'm more than halfway through though. The thing is, the story is very slow, not much has happened so far. We know who, what and where, and a few things about the characters' past. I find it a bit boring to tell you the truth, because the style is too cryptic (remember, I am a French native, English is not my first language so I'm not fluent like a native yet) and yes, things aren't going as fast as I'd like. The two main character have hardly spent time together really, and their relationship can't even be considered as friendship yet, ans so far into the book, it's just weird cos I know they fall in love at one point, and that's pretty much what's keeping me reading lol. Nevertheless, the story is intriguing, no doubt about that, and I want to know what happens.

There, I still say read it if you like that kind of story, because who knows? you'll probably appreciate it more than I do because the language won't be a problem for you :)

message 61: by Polkweed (new)

Polkweed | 13 comments Just picked up David Levithan's Are We There Yet?.I liked Boy Meets Boy so I figured I'd give another one of his a try. It's about two brother's with opposite personalities who don't get along very well being tricked into going on trip to Venice with each other by their folks. Levithan's got a neat flow to narrative. The problem is the book is being told from the brother's alternating perspectives and while the boys are interesting and complex we spend way to much time in their heads.

I guess I have not posted my readings on this group. Right now I am reading/listening to If I Stay by Gayle Forman , Fire (The Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, #2) by Kristin Cashore , and Second Helpings (Jessica Darling, #2) by Megan McCafferty .

I was listening to The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart , but gave up after half. It was not my thing.

message 63: by Amelia (new)

Amelia | 38 comments @Heidi,
If I Stay is one of my favorite books from last year. And I'm not a sad story kind of person normally, but there was a surprising amount of humor, what with her friend and boyfriend. I'll be starting Fire shortly too. I actually kind of liked The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, and you can see my full opinion at http://challengingthebookworm.wordpre...
What didn't you like about it?

message 64: by Amy (last edited May 02, 2010 11:33PM) (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) Right now I'm reading A Long Way Gone Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah and Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary (Fablehaven, #4) by Brandon Mull .

And I hope to start River Secrets (The Books of Bayern, #3) by Shannon Hale and Heir to Sevenwaters (Sevenwaters, #4) by Juliet Marillier soon!

message 65: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
A.m.y. - I could not relate at all to Frankie or her friends. They all seemed like a bunch of rich prep school kids without any problems. Also, it did not seem to have any type of plot movement. The first half of the book was all a set up of all the characters and since I did not really care about any of them, I gave up on waiting to see what all the set up was for.

message 66: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Polkweed, have you read Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist? I think that's the only David Levithan book that I've read and it's co-authored by Rachel Cohn. Although I did give Boy Meets Boy as a gift to a friend.

Heidi, oooh hope you're liking Fire and Second Helpings! I love both of those.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 148 comments I just picked up Will Grayson, Will Grayson from the library b/c a podcast i listen to is going to do a book club review of it and have John Green on as a guest. It's my first John Green experience and I hope to start it tonight! Then I'm going to start Unwind. I have been watching it like a hawk online, but didn't want to check it out b/c I was finishing another book... well, I go to get it off the shelf and SOMEONE CHECKED IT OUT FROM THE LIBRARY! So today after work I'm going to a different library to pick it up. Hopefully it will still be there this time.

Chachic - Fire was good, but not as good as Graceling. I loved second helpings!

message 69: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Heidi, really? I thought Fire was even better than Graceling. I liked Fire more than I liked Katsa and Brigan more than Po. Second Helpings is hilarious, have you finished reading it?

message 70: by Amy (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) Me too, I loved Fire more as well :)

I'm reading World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks and wow, it really is something! ...the events that transpire are fascinating and frighteningly possible.. :O

message 71: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I haven't decided what to read next! I've only read one book so far this May. :(

message 72: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Fire was too weak. Katsa is a bad ass!

Just started Incarceron (Incarceron, #1) by Catherine Fisher on audiobook.

message 74: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I have a copy of Incarceron but I haven't read it. I'll read it after I finish the book that I'm reading.

message 76: by Amy (last edited May 09, 2010 03:29PM) (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) I'm reading Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready right now and it's REALLY good! I highly highly recommend it for people who loved Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Power series :D
Shade by Jeri Smith-Ready

Also reading:
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta The Pale Horse by Agatha Christie

And I've come to a rather unfortunate standstill on these; will plow through them next weekend:
The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley Shadowed Summer by Saundra Mitchell

message 77: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I just finished reading A Company of Swans and started reading Incarceron earlier today.

Amy, I'd like to know what you think of Jellicoe Road when you're done reading it and I hope you give The Blue Sword another chance because it's one of my favorites.

Nope. Any good? I'm not reading any more of his without a positive review first.

message 79: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I liked it! Although I would've liked it even more if I was more into the music because I didn't get all of the references.

Just finished our monthly read and am now reading The Secret Hour (Midnighters, #1) by Scott Westerfeld . I'm only a few chapters into it but it's good so far!

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) I'm waiting for my books I order to come in

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) I was going to read Night's Touch (My Night, #2) by Amanda Ashley and Night's Pleasure (My Night, #4) by Amanda Ashley but I am taking a brake from vampire books and read Love In The Corner Pocket by Marlene Perez

message 83: by Polkweed (new)

Polkweed | 13 comments Started reading East...kinda on the fence about it.

message 84: by Chachic (new)

Chachic I read East way before and it was just okay for me, nothing spectacular. I haven't read a retelling of East of the Sun and West of the Moon that's really great.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) I am rereading Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

message 86: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 14 comments I loved Hush, Hush!! Can't wait for Crescendo this fall!!

I'm reading Fallen Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate The story keeps me going, but it's a bit too emo for me sometimes, and I found too many typos/mistakes...Oh well, I'm still gonna finish it but I'm a bit disappointed so far.

message 87: by Amy (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) I loved HUSH HUSH but hated FALLEN :) I think it was because FALLEN's protagonist is really bland and rather wimpy and absurdly dependent on the "bad boy" -___- But I liked the setting... haha. And HUSH HUSH rocked!

Just finished The Secret Hour (Midnighters, #1) by Scott Westerfeld and really liked it. I would recommend it. :)

Now starting Angel Star by Jennifer Murgia . It just came out and has really good reviews. We'll see!

I loved both the books

message 91: by Amy (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) I put Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta on hiatus for the time being (I was only on page 5 anyways) because it was too whimsical for me to follow in my current state of mind...but I'm definitely gonna go back and start it over at a later date.

So for now I'm continuing The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley and probably starting The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness next! :)

message 92: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Amy, Jellicoe Road is pretty confusing at the start but you have to stick with it because it's really worth it.

Hope you like The Blue Sword! I just made a post about that because it's one of my favorites. :)

I'm currently reading:

message 93: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 14 comments Ok, I just finished Fallen and ended up loving it. Even if the style is quite cheesy and emo, the story is quite strong, and the ending leaves you wanting for more, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

I'm attacking Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia and so far it's very promising.
Anyone read it? How is it?

message 94: by [deleted user] (new)

I liked Beautiful Creatures but I several on here didn't. :)

message 95: by Sophie (new)

Sophie | 14 comments Oh yeah? Well, I guess I'll have to judge for myself :) I'm only two chapters in, I'm gonna continue tonight.

I did not like Beautiful Creatures, but if you liked Fallen I am pretty sure you'll like it.

message 97: by Amy (last edited May 16, 2010 11:56PM) (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) Right now I'm reading A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin and it is one hefty tome! I'm only about 120 pages in but it's quite the excellent epic and I'm eager to see how everything goes.

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin

message 98: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Amy, I've heard great things about A Game of Thrones but I don't know when I'll get around to reading it because it's a huge book and then there are already a lot of books in the series.

I'm still reading Sapphique but I'm thinking of putting than on hold to read:

Mistwood by Leah Cypess

message 99: by Amy (last edited May 18, 2010 01:16AM) (new)

Amy (aaammmyyy) I usually read fast but oh man this book is a real epic and I'm slogging through it as fast I can, even though that's a snail's pace really. Despite this, though, the book is GREAT :o)

And I have Mistwood as well though I haven't read it yet. I haven't even read Incarceron yet. I'm probably going to read Mistwood first but if you do decide to do so as well tell me what you think of it! I've heard some fantastic things about Mistwood but also some problems with the world-building and character dimensions. That aside, though, it should be wonderful! :)

message 100: by Chachic (new)

Chachic Really? I've mostly seen good reviews about Mistwood. I will definitely let you know what I think of it. I started reading a couple of chapters today but I don't know if I'll continue reading it or finish Sapphique first.
