I actually loved and swiped that description from msjodie in the Audiobooks group ;) but isn't it spot-on? Had to borrow it.

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments I love this group......I'd never heard of Shusterman or Ness before joining....and now I'm devouring the Chaos Walking series and my husband is almost done with book 1 of Unwind. And we keep telling each other how unbelievably awesome they are and plan on switching when we're done. :)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Oh Ashley, I just saw your post on Les Mis. That is one of my favorite books. At the same time, I read Three Musketeers and Hunchback of Notre Dame. I know I'm in the minority here, but I prefer the old style of writing in many ways. The depth was breathtaking at times and I feel like the push is for action-packed at the cost of a well rounded story in many of the genres lately.

I love Dumas, The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorite books and I've got Hunchback of Notre Dame at home too, still need to read that one. For whatever reason I've never really been interested in the Three Musketeers. That may change, of course -- I want to read more classics, I've got shelves full of them but that's not up there right now.

Hardcover only right now, which is why I haven't read it yet. And the Kindle is almost as expensive as the hard cover.

ARGH! I just finished...
The Final Descent (The Monstrumologist, #4) by Rick Yancey

I devoured it! I just couldn't put it down! Now that the series is done for me I don't know how to feel. I don't know want to say! I'm literally speechless!

I actually have a question about the ending of Final Descent. Anyone care to enlighten me? Please open the spoiler!

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) Kristen, I got Winter and Stars Above in soft cover. I got them on Amazon through book depository. Just search on Amazon for stars above paperback.

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Donna wrote: "Kristen, I got Winter and Stars Above in soft cover. I got them on Amazon through book depository. Just search on Amazon for stars above paperback."

I did. It's showing as hardcover only as official release. The paperbacks are from other countries as resale, and are showing as more expensive than the hard cover. That's strange yours are showing differently.

I'll have to check on a different machine. Sometimes I think Amazon does the price changing per device and my phone gets higher prices than my PC. It could just be my imagination too :)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments So I read A Monster Calls (Ness) last night. Let's just say I was warned....Heidi told me it was a sad book. What I didn't realize is that I'd be a blubbery mess by the time I was through. It was so sad, so good, and needs to be read by anyone who has a loved one with a terminal condition. The way he dealt the sadness and guilt--perfect!

Yes!!!! I was the same way (blubbering mess). Read my review of it if you want because my mother died of cancer when I was 13 so I think I mentioned in my review how he nailed my feelings and thoughts about being young and having a parent who is suffering from cancer. It was like he had a window into my soul. Sooooo good!

Have you read I Am the Messenger I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak ??? One of his best works IMO and so underrated.

Also, have you read the Monstrumologist series? We pimp that series pretty hard here since Brigid got us hooked on it! The Monstrumologist (The Monstrumologist, #1) by Rick Yancey The Monstrumologist

message 9985: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie gawwwd I still need to START the Monstrumologist series! October 2016 for sure this time even though I've been saying that for the last 2 years

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) Recently finished Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4) by Sarah J. I have read I Am the Messenger....and it was so weird and so good and so different from the The Book Thief (which I adored).
I haven't read the Monstrumologist series yet.....I'll definitely have to check it out. Thanks for the recommendation. :)

I'm really curious to see your thoughts on Red Queen, Donna. That is a book where I'm definitely the minority. I honestly really didn't like it. :(

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) WOW, yeah cuz I've heard rave reviews!! I'll let you know ;)

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) I loved that series Heidi! Both Neverland and Pan's Revenge. But I am pretty easily pleased. I give a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews. I just love everything, well almost. I thought they were great retellings!! Hook was very swoon-worthy!!! :)

So, I finished:

The Abyss Surrounds Us (The Abyss Surrounds Us, #1) by Emily Skrutskie

WOWWWW you guys should read this one. I was totally hooked. Cool world-building, sea monsters, pirates, and a really cute romance between two girls. :) I highly recommend it!

I'm also almost finished with:

Starflight (Starflight, #1) by Melissa Landers

I really enjoyed the first half and thought it was fun and exciting––the second half has been a bit rough for me, since the romance kinda takes over the whole plot and gets a little too sappy for my taste. Maybe things will get better towards the end, though!

message 9996: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments I just picked up Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5) by Marissa Meyer on Kindle, since the price dropped today (at least on my PC vs Phone). Hopefully that helps me get back into Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer , because I'm now dreading finishing it. I hate when that happens :'(.

Up next, though, is The Ask and the Answer (Chaos Walking, #2) by Patrick Ness . I haven't had a chance to read all week. I'm hoping to make up for that tonight, after the kids go to sleep. I have a glass of wine ready to go! (or, you know, a bottle; the littlest tyrants have been screaming all day)
