I do think that's the problem. I have The Knife of Never Letting Go to start still. I may switch to that.

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments Ooh. Sounds fun! I've just started red rising, but plan to read the knife of never letting go after :)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Elora, Red Rising?

message 9854: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I just finished a quick reread of Alice in Zombieland (White Rabbit Chronicles, #1) by Gena Showalter I really want to finish this series!

Next I'm rereading Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2) by Marissa Meyer

message 9855: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments Kristen, I was jumping all around in that post.....sorry......I started a new series (well, the third book was just published) but it's Red Rising by Pierce Brown. It's written from a teenage boy's perspective and he's digging on Mars. It's good so far--I find that most books written in a male perspective can lean a little girly, but this isn't the case so far.

message 9856: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Interesting. I'll have to look it up. Thanks :)

Jenny - were you one of the readers who loved Scarlet the first time you read it or not? Just curious if it is better in a re-read if you didn't love it the first time.

Just finished...
Bone Gap by Laura Ruby
A pretty good read. I wanted the ending to be a bit more climactic, but still a solid good read!

Started...
The Darkest Minds (The Darkest Minds, #1) by Alexandra Bracken
Been hearing mixed reviews on this series, but decided to try it out. Almost reminds me of Shatter Me, but its not heavy on the romance department. Which is fine by me ^_^

message 9861: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I just started Bone Gap by Laura Ruby .

I was looking at The Hunchback Assignments (The Hunchback Assignments, #1) by Arthur Slade after that since my son is reading them and I like to keep some tabs on what he's reading. Has anyone read any of these?

I loved it just as much as Cinder, but not nearly as much as Cress! The reread is going great, I do think I like it better the second time!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas 4.5 stars. This was an amazing fantasy! I didn't love it quite as much as Throne of Glass, but I did love it! The characters were great, with a rich, detailed world, and some great twists throughout!

I thought that was a decent read too. I was not as in love with it as a lot of others but can see what it is so loved if that makes sense.

message 9867: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Yes I do Heidi! I was really into the beginning, then around the middle I was starting to get a little bored (mostly with the romance) but it picked back up for me again when she (view spoiler) From then on I was at the edge of my seat! I knocked it down half a star for the romance--not that it was a bad romance or anything, I just didn't quite "feel" it for some reason. The rest of the book was still great though!

message 9868: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Oooh...fantasy. I'm adding that to my list.

All of those were the same reasons why I didn't fall totally in love. I do like her writing style a lot though and like it said, I can see why others loved it.

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) I loved A Court of Thorns and Roses !!! It was one of my favorite fantasy books!!! Glad you enjoyed it Jenny!

@Kristen - I loved Winter, but also I had more than a year between that one and the third one––so I had that time to start missing the characters again, haha. :D I really hope you like Chaos Walking!

@Bluemoon - I felt the same way about Bone Gap––I liked it over all, but the end felt a bit rushed to me. I'm interested to see what you think of Darkest Minds in the end ... I had mixed feelings about that one.

@Elora - I had an ebook ARC of Red Rising and stopped reading it like a fourth of the way through because I got bored with it––but since then I've heard so many good things about it, so maybe I should give it another try? Does it get better?

Nearly done with my re-read of:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling

And then I'm going to re-read:

Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman

I also got out of the library:

The Abyss Surrounds Us (The Abyss Surrounds Us, #1) by Emily Skrutskie

... So I might start that as well. :D

message 9874: by Kristen (last edited Feb 22, 2016 06:33PM) (new)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments I decided to stick with Winter. I'm in a strange place right now, where I'm kind of addicted, but am feeling like it's already too long and dragging a bit, which is how I felt about Scarlet. I can't tell if it's me or the book. I do like Jacin and Winter a lot, though, and like the change of pace with Jacin's non-hero heroism. I wish there was more of them.

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) Still reading Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4) by Sarah J. Maas and also reading Neverland (Adventures in Neverland #1) by Anna Katmore which I'm loving!!

Yes, keep me updated! I don't remember exactly why I stopped reading it ... I think I just found it hard to follow, but maybe things get clearer as it goes along. I also probably got distracted by other books, lol. :P

message 9879: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Read a bit more of Malala this morning, started Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow the other night and finished the first chapter yesterday (thing is DENSE AF), and started Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill last night.

I'm glad you like his style! I know that kind of makes-or-breaks the book for a lot of people. :) I remember starting it and being like "WTF is this book??" for the first like 50 pages, but once the plot got rolling I was really hooked. Hope you enjoy the rest of it!!

I'm like ~90 pages into my re-read of:

Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman

And dang, I think I'm loving it even more the second time. The plotting is so good, and I love the world-building and how morally complex the characters are (especially Lev). So good!

I loved it more the second time too, only four months after my first read xD such a brilliant book! Plausibly twisted, if that makes any sense.

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments haha, Kristen. I started reading that book as well. I was partway through Red Rising and had The Knife of Never Letting Go on my shelf and decided to give it a go. Yes, I think "plausibly twisted" is a perfect description. :D I think what's so scary about it is that it seems eerily real. I mean, obviously unwinding is scientifically impossible, but something about it feels scarily believable. I think it's just that Neal Shusterman is so good at world-building. He always goes into a lot of detail and obviously thinks a lot about how the world would change if something like unwinding was possible.

Caedy Eries (karida) | 26 comments I'm currently reading:

The Eye of Minds (The Mortality Doctrine, #1) by James Dashner

The Bone Season (The Bone Season, #1) by Samantha Shannon

I am loving both of them. The Eye of Minds is definitely getting interesting.

message 9889: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments I've never read either of those, Caedy. What genre do they fall into?

message 9890: by Caedy (new)

Caedy Eries (karida) | 26 comments Elora wrote: "I've never read either of those, Caedy. What genre do they fall into?"

Both are YA.

The Eye of Minds is by James Dashner, the same author who wrote The Maze Runner. It's quite good actually.

The Bone Season is the debut novel by Samantha Shannon, and touches a bit more on the paranormal part of YA/Sci-Fi/Dystopia.

I feel that I'm the only one who actually enjoyed Scarlet a lot more than Cinder. I haven't touched Cress, so I still don't know what I think about it.

BRIGID: I really enjoyed Darkest Mind. I really thought I would be indifferent towards it, but I enjoyed it overall. The ending was a bit weird for me, but I kinda figured it would happen (view spoiler). I will continue on with the series tho.

I'm currently reading...
Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1) by Stephanie Perkins
I'm actually really surprised that I'm liking it. I know that everyone here loves it, I'm just really surprised that I'm enjoying myself reading it. I think I'm on a romantic movie/book binge this week so I might be biased. hahahaha...

I'm not much into romantic comedies or novels, but this week, OMG. I've just been watching romance movies one after the other. Never been Kissed, When Harry Met Sally, While you were Sleeping, etc. O_O

I never got around to reading the sequel to Darkest Minds, although I considered it. I really liked the first half of the first book and then wasn't crazy about the second half. But if you read the rest of the series, I'm interested to hear what you think about it! :)

And I'm glad you're enjoying Anna and the French Kiss! That one was also a very pleasant surprise for me. I don't read much contemporary romance, but that book was really sweet and I liked the characters a lot.
