Welcome to the group Hugh! I believe we can recommend a book or two that might be of interest to you. Just ask....
That would be great! Im putting lockdown to good use by reading as many books as I can. I quite like Damian Lewis’s book I have read a lot of his as well as saboteur of Auschwitz, the tattooist of Auschwitz and Ant Middletown’s book as well
Hugh wrote: "And I am currently on lost honour betrayed loyalty by Herbert Maeger"Welcome aboard, Hugh. I also have a copy of this book and I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it:
Lost Honour, Betrayed Loyalty: The Memoir of a Waffen SS Soldier
Mark I would like to hear you thoughts on this book as well as it’s not something I would normally read I have just started reading accounts of the war from a German point of view
Hi Hugh and welcome to the group, I am glad you are finding a few things of interest already, enjoy :)
Hi everyone! I just joined the group and I'm looking forward to the discussions and hoping to find recommendations for new WWII reads!!
Hi Nadia and welcome to the group. I think you will have no problems getting recommendations for WW2 books :)What area of WW2 are you interested in the most?
Thank you! :) My main areas of interest as of now are probably various battles, the invasion of France and the Vichy regime as well as the Third Reich and biographies of military commanders or other important figures!

Okay, here are some you might find interesting:
Case Red: The Collapse of France
Blitzkrieg: Myth, Reality, and Hitler’s Lightning War: France 1940As for the Third Reich, Richard Evans has written a trilogy which is supposed to be excellent (I have all three, but have not read them yet):
The Third Reich trilogy

Thank you so much for the recommendations, Marc! The two first ones I hadn't heard of before and they look very interesting. As for Richard Evans' trilogy I've been meaning to read it as well, I'll have to buy the first book soon..
Some good recommendations from Marc, some older but still quite interesting books on the fall of France are these two titles:
To Lose a Battle: France 1940 by Alistair Horne
Blitzkrieg: From The Rise Of Hitler To The Fall Of Dunkirk by Len Deighton
Nadia wrote: "Hi everyone! I just joined the group and I'm looking forward to the discussions and hoping to find recommendations for new WWII reads!!"Welcome to the group Nadia. Very nice to have you here. As you can see, you will need to boost your book budget and clear some space for all the new books that will be recommended.

Thank you! And yes... I've already added some books to my wishlist and I'm running out of space on my shelves but oh well!

I am sure there are people here who will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the custom in France is to refer to 1944 as 'debarquements' (landings). The difference being that the Germans came and stayed.
Hey Rick !, hi everyone! Some of you might know me from the History Book Club where I regularly post music clips.
I'm busy with research on WW2 pilots for a script I'm planning to write.
Since at first I was not sure where I would want the story to take place I first concentrated on Asia but I'm now "back" to the European and North African theater where I think I have found what I was looking for.
I am still looking for a good book on the Battle of Britain - and no, I don't think the one by Patrick Bishop will do ( too many inaccuracies when it comes to pictures.
I've heard about a Swedish author, Christer Bergstrom and I think I might go for his book.
I'm currently reading
by Peter Townsend which I really like.
Hi Andre, nice to see you here. You could check out James Holland's recent book on the Battle of Britain:
The Battle of Britain: Five Months That Changed History, May-October 1940 by James HollandAnother good one is this book:
The Most Dangerous Enemy: A History of the Battle of Britain by Stephen Bungay
Welcome André, great to have you here. Are you looking primarily at RAF pilots or are you including others? Canadian, American, Australian, Polish, etc?
'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Hi Andre, nice to see you here. You could check out James Holland's recent book on the Battle of Britain"Hey Rick,
Thank you! Got both on my list:-)
Mike wrote: "Welcome André, great to have you here. Are you looking primarily at RAF pilots or are you including others? Canadian, American, Australian, Polish, etc?"Thank you Mike.
All nations. But since I'm already quite happy with what I have on the North African campaign I am now looking into the Battle of Britain - both sides, mainly German and British though.
I know the pilot I'm doing research on mainly fought British pilots during the Battle of Britain but what counts to me is the "being there" feeling, problems with the plane, challenges, weather, life away from battle etc.
I've done a bit more research and I think I now have what I need - the rest is on it's way by mail :-)
Thanks again!!!
'Aussie Rick' wrote: "I hope your research and writing all goes well Andre."Thank you very much, Rick!
Hello everyone, I'm Arthur. My teen years were mostly focused on American involvement in WW2, but in my 30's I've taken a more keen interest in Polish forces (in Italy in particular), and in the fighting on the Eastern Front. Nice to meet you all.

Chris wrote: "Hi everyone, it's great to be here and I'm looking forward to the discussions and book recommendations :-)"Welcome, Chris.
'Aussie Rick' wrote: "Hi Chris and welcome to the group, any particular area of WW2 that interests you the most?"Thanks Rick. I'm a bit of an omnivore when it comes to military history, but on WW2 I'm most interested in the war in the West. Too many books, too little time!!
That's our motto Chris :) You should find a few threads of interest in our campaign and battle area:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
Hi everyone, I joined last month and am finally getting a chance to say hello. I love what I've seen so far the way this group works and already feel welcome. I'm a U.S. military chaplain, have written two WWII books and can't get enough of the era.

Hi I’m Austin, I really enjoy history with a passion. I love discussing history. I know a lot more about ideas reasons through history and WW2 over the weaponry and tactics used. I look forward to discussing all of these things.
